2K Sports just posted another NBA 2K11 Developer Insight. This one talks about the expanded playcall system.
Quote:
"All Teams Are Not Created Equal - Each team has a base playbook of at least thirty plays that reflect their coach's philosophy and style of play. The marquis teams also have additional plays available to them that they can run for additional flavor. We created individual sets for teams as well. What this means is that even though two coaches may use a floppy set, their personnel and style may dictate that their floppy set starts differently than that of another team that runs a floppy. Now even if teams run plays that have the same end goal, the look you get from team to team will differ based on how they run it and who they run it with.
If you consider that we have well over 1000 plays across all the current and the old school NBA teams, you will see that, as a User, you have a plethora of options to vary your offense."
I am good running freelance offenses but I often got stale at some points in the game, because I couldnt rely on the playcaling due to it being broken (execution and presentation). The addressing of both will definitively help my offense alot (as well as the absolute right stick and the face lift to shoot button).
The inclussion of personalized plays will take authenticity to the next level, well beyond our wishes. Not only will players behave like their real life counter parts without the ball (most individual tendencies), not only will they have similar individual ussage %s like in real life (shot and new touchs tendencies) but they will also have their unique plays ... just amazing!
I just hope that they could also have the options for coach specific playbooks and the option for coaches movement ... once a coach gets fired and then hired, he brings his playbook to the new team.
I would welcome any more insights they could release but have to admit that the one that it is driving me crazy and that it is not letting me sleep over nights ... its the yet to be announced: Association Insight !
I must have missed that part. Where does it say we have the options manually?
"This, again, was done to speed up how quickly you could start running your play. Last year, the criterion for flipping plays was pretty stringent, and limited to AI teams only."

THIS is what Nba 2k11 Association needs!
And I don't think it's impossible...
I really only use one play when I do decide to run a play...pick and roll. I'll give it try because it sounds like a winner. I would love to see a video of Rip and Ray Allen coming off those double screens for J's. I would also like to see the pick and roll feel better, last year and even now, I just dont get how I'm suppose to run it effectively if the 2nd man always comes up to double but my guy isn't rolling fast enough if he does at all. I love the pick and roll so I really hope it's given better implementation this year. I will definitely hit the practice gym like it's training camp tryn to get a hang and feel for the plays. And the play names are a very nice bonus.
LOL, very funny. Actually, I'd say Golden State and Don Nelson employs a pretty complex scheme that goes unnoticed because it seems so frantic and undisciplined. It's quite the contrary. While it may not promote defense (at all), it's definitely backed by some serious x's and o's.
Not really. Nelson is far too reliant on individual brilliance in his offenses. Remember his Golden State teams when he had Richmond, Mullin, and Hardaway playing 3 on 3 basketball while his bigs stood around and watched?
Nelson's two man plays are highly overrated. Some soft screens/rolls and brush/fades are usually what he bases an offense around. Tough playoff teams have little trouble destroying these soft schemes.
Now this is one of those things that I have to see to believe because the playcalling has been bad/unresponsive/broken in this series since its inception and it has become issue #1 for me over the years. I saw rays of light in some of the videos that have been posted of gameplay with the off-ball movement, but I have to see the actual playcalling working. A working playcalling system in of itself gives players more incentive to play a more realistic brand of basketball because it would no longer be viewed as a complete waste of time (literally, in past NBA 2K games), and people could actually get points by calling plays, which should ultimately lead to more varied shot selections from users. It 'sounds' like they've made major strides in this area, but I'm looking forward to this video more than any other vid that's showcasing this game.

hopefully Da Czar will address some concerns with his vid in a few hours.
CAN'T WAIT
the good thing is Czar is bringing out MANY videos, meaning if he highglights a few great plays, you could call it luck, or selective editing, but after many vids you should have a GREAT idea of just how good this system will be before you pplay the full game.
this is just as important for me. i would love to play a bbal game with plays. i think it would open up the fun factor a ton. NEVER called or executed a single succsessful play in the history of playing nba 2k, (and never played live) so this is like a brand new feature for me, just hope its works.
Men, Bretheren and Family. I realize you have been waiting patiently for the show to drop. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but its looking like the show is going to be delayed.
I know this is the part where you normally start roasting 2k and Ronnie but I ask you to just hold off and display some patience here.
OS has never really had an exclusive feature quite like this. Especially this early. As such there are quite a few approvals from different areas that must be kept in order to preserve our ability to keep bringing you the depth of content you deserve in the quality you have come to expect.
Please rest assured if we could release it now we would. Its important that we follow the correct protocols to ensure that in the future we can bring you even more in depth coverage that hit's you right where you live. Sim Citi...
While no show could possibly live up to the hype of waiting even longer to see it... the few who have seen it have said its my best work to date.
As soon as I know more I will let you know.
I know it's not what you wanted to hear ! But I know you can handle it !!

WOW, ultimately I don't fault you for that because while I've tried to run plays in past NBA 2K games, it was largely a practice of frustration as I watched my teammates move nonchalantly and lackadaisically to their positions, and sometime they'd get to their position, and the play art would just suddenly disappear, which as you can imagine, would leave an offense influx and would discourage any type of playbook usage (especially as time expired during the course of a game.) If the playcalling still wasn't up to my standards this year, I'd probably still would attempt to call plays out of habit alone. But like you, I'm very much looking forward to this video because although I do appreciate the depth and the details of the insights that goes along with this game, an aspect like playcalling (a known problem area since forever and an area that was supposedly patched last year to increase its effectiveness) is something that I have to see in action in order for me to say that it has been addressed.
