NBA 2K11 News Post

2K Sports has just posted another NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, going over the controls in the game.

Quote:
"The number of moves you can pull off in NBA 2K11 is pretty insane. When you get your hands on the game this fall, one of the first things I’d recommend to everyone is to navigate to the Main Menu and go to --> Options --> My Controller --> Advanced Controls. Here, we’ve detailed most of the major things that we’ve added to the on-court experience. Of course, in typical 2K fashion, we’ve left some of the moves off the list for you to discover on your own as you play the game. As a game designer, one of the ways I’ve always gone about my work is to study real NBA games and translate what I see into game mechanics. For me, if I can pull off everything I see on TV in our game, then I’m pretty happy with the controls. And with NBA 2K11, there’s very little (if anything) that you can’t do on the sticks to replicate your favorite real life moments. I remember being in motion capture with a few of the swingmen we brought in to do some new dribble moves and shots. Walking the guys through what we wanted them to do, on more than one occasion they would say, “that’s a great move, I’m gonna start using that” or “man, you guys got every move in the book in this game!” Coming from NBA-caliber talent, that’s a nice acknowledgement to how in-depth some of the moves in our game have become."

Wow, this was like the control scheme of my dreams... a perfect fusion of old-school 2K (think 2K8) and NBA Live 10. Color me officially excited for this game... all the Jordan hype and whatever else did nothing for me, but these are massive "nuts and bolts" improvements that I've been asking for the last 5 years...

Good stuff, so glad to have Mike back on board with the rest of their crew... seems like they really did work this year, re-vamping almost everything. Loving the animaitons and the burst you get when coming hard out of a dribble move... Can't wait to light people up with Ty Lawson, Monta Ellis, and those types...

It sounds like they did WORK this year. The NBA 2K series has always been heralded and recognize for its depth in a lot different areas, but it sounds like they went into complete overdrive. Everything from new modes, to new gameplay and refine mechanics, all the way to continually adding to its strength, which is sigs and player differentiation. Quite honestly, it's staggering how much they've been able to do in one dev cycle, and I love this quote right here from the insight:

Quote:
I know there’s a sentiment out there that you can’t have the best of both worlds: control and nice animation. But I think with this year’s game, we’re going to prove that it’s possible.
I like it...... I like it A LOT.

Its amazing to me how they've basically fixed every problem I've had with this game..I've been wanting the momentum jumpshooting for years now. Happy its been mapped for the shot button too because I hate jumpshooting with the shotstick..only use that for layups. All these guys with multiple jumpshot animation..just amazing. Glad mike brought alot of his ideas from live over to 2k. Its really helping make 2k an even better game. All this plus a great association mode will make this my favorite 2k.

Auto D is gone
Anybody knows if auto postup is gone also?

Great insight I guess 2K heard us complaining every year about lack of info on NBA2K__. They're on their business now. Now it's almost time for some commercials to make the hype machine worldwide.

I hope the "other" company makes a good game also. I love basketball.

2K really need to go back to making a NCAA game.

The spin launch out of the triple threat is back. Cant wait to see these mid air collisions. My biggest pet peeve was "ghosting".

And if all that fails, hold RT (R2 on PS3) and push the Right Analog toward the ball handler for a hard foul. That’s always fun.
About time. Camby, Oden, and Pryzbilla can have their no dunk policy.

if i'm not wrong mike said that auto post is gone this year, and you can go all the way on the court when backing down your defender like payton used to do

I feel like 2K is just REALLY starting to listen to the consumers now. Thank you 2K. And congrats on your Sports Game of The Year award.

Wow. I really do not know what to say....This is definitely going to be one of the All-Time great sport games in history if everything plays at minimum, they way they are describing it.

Man, this is so promising and chock full of awesome info! Now I'm dying to know if they've addressed the outstanding issues with playbooks and being able to use custom ones online.

So happy

2k ...Mike...and all other developers......I want to personally thank you for the explosion of information this year...I know we blasted you all for not getting us much information last year but I am not to big to say that this year you guys are on fire.....I don't know who lit the fire in your marketing department this year but let me say keep it burnin!!!

thank you for the early information it truly makes me feel more involved with the process as a expectant gamer should feel....this is what I consider credible hype for a game.....you listened to us and I appreciate it. thanks

My boner just grew a boner. The depth they've added with offensive controls has blown me away, and the defensive changes sound extremely promising. I can't wait.

it is. holding LT+RT (L2+R2) puts the ball handler into the dribble protect model. Push into the D with both triggers held will post up.
