NHL 11 News Post

EA Sports NHL 11 demo is now available on Xbox LIVE and the PLAYSTATION Network. Powered by a revolutionary real-time physics engine, the franchise that has won 22 sports game of the year awards over the past three years will showcase two game modes in the demo: Battle for the Cup and the all-new Hockey Ultimate Team.

Battle for the Cup:

In Battle for the Cup, players will experience all the emotion and drama of the third period of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup™ Championship between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The mode features an all new faceoff system, new quick dekes and the ability to score amazing goals even while lying on the ice.

Hockey Ultimate Team:

The all-new Hockey Ultimate Team brings Online Dynasty play to the EA SPORTS NHL franchise for the first time ever. In the demo, players will be able to pick up a starter pack of cards to build their Ultimate Hockey Team. Take your new team to the ice and play against either the Canadian Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, or the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. Play and win games in the demo with your Ultimate Team and earn up to two additional packs in the full version of NHL 11, when it is released on September 7, 2010.

The demo will also feature an interactive tutorial that will allow those new to the franchise to learn the controls, and allow long-time fans to practice some of the new controls in the game, including Faceoffs.

at 10% and can't wait to try this out. i have a baseball tourny today so i am only going to get to play for like an hour so hopefully it finishes soon. quick question, to get the extra card pack by inviting a friend, do they have to accept and download it to get the pack or does it unlock as soon as you pick someone randomly to invite?

Short list of notable pros and cons from a few games...

PROS
Broken Sticks / lost sticks. We will be able to turn the frequency down. But when it DOES happen, I like this aspect of the game.
Spot shadow on goal scorer... I have always wanted this
Card Game (forgot what it is called) seems interesting
Good players seemed good, bad players seemed bad... same with hitting
Sound is top notch. Love when the puck hits the leg pads along the ice
Puck protect animation is WAY better

NOT PROS
Goalie reactions to loose pucks / slow moving pucks
Goalie passing still confuses me (User error?) and I seem to throw the puck in random directions when it is played out of the crease.
Skaters seem too big/fat to me. Maybe it is just me.

I am really hating the demo... Reason is that it will make the time until the retail version comes ALOT SLOWER.... I love the feel of this game so far.. AI seems improved... Whatever passing setting it is on I love it.. You can't just zing the puck around. CPU isn't pass happy like I remember... Overall Graphically the game looks the same but polished.. Maybe it's because I played on the Ps3 before and now am on 360 but the ice surface looks AMAZING... Looks like it's snowed over in the late period.. Back to playing... I'm lovin this thing...

Ice looks MUCH better. Shadows/lighting is also improved before and after the game for sure. Skaters might be a bit sharper, can't be sure.

Your legs move when you protect the puck! Woo!

Really liking the hustle button. Had the puck way out in from of Tavares. Tapped it a few times and beat everyone to it.

In my second play, the puck had gotten by the defenseman and was on its way to the goalie. I used the hustle button to just out skate the defender, make a quick move on the goalie and put it home. It was a thing of beauty, and something I have never really seen in 10.

Everything just seems more realistic! The ice has a better feel and the sounds are great. The goalies are kinda cluless but maybe thats minor?and i like the puck handling a lot more than 10.

Seriously man, this is gonna be torture to wait for. The retail usually plays a little better than the demo too. Haven't really seen any weird goalie stuff... I did see a goal off of two different poke checks, that the goalie couldn't get to. Other than that I am loving mostly everything, need to figure out the faceoff stuff some more though.

For people's comments on the goalies, I think its the physics being looser, the puck no longer suctions to the glove and it feels alot more live in just about all situations imo at least, it might be something they further tuned for retail as I'm not entirely sure how old this build is.
Yea the pro difficulty is getting bored, but it makes it easier to learn the gameplay, and the goalie stuff was just wierd.the goalie caught the puck and his glove was in the net and they called it a goal?idk and he like shuffled one inbetween his pads.

Anyone know how to do the new quick dekes? The CPU keeps using them on me.

Well the team you need to beat to win the tourney is Canada, so it is still kinda tough, even on Pro.

Wow... On Battle for the cup I bumped up the difficulty.. What a amazing thing it was... The puck play everywhere is great.. Right now I am really looking forward to the release.. Everything just feels right.. Are there any issues, Of course but darn man... I am pumped.. I played into w OT's where the Hawks scored a goal of a delfection of me trying to block a shot... They of course won the CUP... Well I have to get ready for work... I will play later tonight and give more detailed impressions

Just finished DL'ing and am not even 2 and half minutes into playing my first 3rd period and I have to say that this really feels good. The new physics make a noticeable difference to how the game feels and the hitting is way better.

I have the puck at authentic size with no shadow and it looks great. Also, dumping the puck looks and feels better. Personally, I think the speed is too slow but that is easily adjusted with sliders upon retail purchase.

Skating does feel smoother. Gameplay videos on youtube will not readily convey the changes found in this demo. On the screen, the game probably looks pretty similar to 10, but it feels quite different through the controller.

Having played every NHL this gen, this one feels like something fresh.

Really good stuff so far and this off the opening 2 minutes of play. Am going to pay closer attention to see if it feels like the ai suction to your man or not.

Oh my goodness! The cpu just carried it into my end and dumped it in for a line change! This I have not seen before on past NHL's.

Sorry boys for all the quick fires posts. Last one for a while, but the puck physics are fantastic!

Just took a wrister from in close at the right face off circle and the way it rebounded off the goalie out past the left face off dot just looked very authentic!

The physics themselves make this game feel noticeably different from past hockey games. Easily the best EA has done.
