NHL 11 News Post

EA Sports NHL 11 demo is now available on Xbox LIVE and the PLAYSTATION Network. Powered by a revolutionary real-time physics engine, the franchise that has won 22 sports game of the year awards over the past three years will showcase two game modes in the demo: Battle for the Cup and the all-new Hockey Ultimate Team.

Battle for the Cup:

In Battle for the Cup, players will experience all the emotion and drama of the third period of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup™ Championship between the Philadelphia Flyers and the Chicago Blackhawks. The mode features an all new faceoff system, new quick dekes and the ability to score amazing goals even while lying on the ice.

Hockey Ultimate Team:

The all-new Hockey Ultimate Team brings Online Dynasty play to the EA SPORTS NHL franchise for the first time ever. In the demo, players will be able to pick up a starter pack of cards to build their Ultimate Hockey Team. Take your new team to the ice and play against either the Canadian Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, or the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers. Play and win games in the demo with your Ultimate Team and earn up to two additional packs in the full version of NHL 11, when it is released on September 7, 2010.

The demo will also feature an interactive tutorial that will allow those new to the franchise to learn the controls, and allow long-time fans to practice some of the new controls in the game, including Faceoffs.

I just sold NHL10 a week ago knowing this demo would be out to help hold me over for NHL11.

This demo is great... is it me or do wrist shots really get to the goalie in a hurry now? That was one of the biggest things I noticed off the bat. Checking is great... and did I see the AI dump the puck 3 times in A ROW. OMG! I've even seen a little bit of cycling by the computer as well.

My only gripe was the Hawks goal horn... it sounds a lot different than last year and I thought they had it right last year. Am I hearing things?

No one is close to our top pair (2). Who the crap is Meszaros? Enough said.

By the way, I honestly don't mean to sound like I'm "arguing" or insulting anyone. So if I came across like that, sorry. What I was getting at was that the ratings being off (in my opinion) result in unrealistic simmed standings. Like the Sharks being last place, or the Flyers being last in the East. That kind of thing.

Skating agility and puckhandling is still straight videogame. That became my biggest gripe with this series last year after loving 07-09.

I'll let you know when I hear the horn.

We aren't here to argue ratings or who is better than whom. Thank you.

I watched every game of the playoffs, only missed about 10 regular season games over the last 2 seasons (NHL Center Ice) and watch NHL Network religiously. I've never heard of this guy. I'll look him up. I don't see how I could have overlooked him in the Final.

lol...

I mean really, any defensive core that starts with the name 'Pronger' is gonna be tough, as long as its not Pronger and a bunch of AHLers.

He didn't play in the Final, he signed as a FA. It doesn't matter anyways, he's on the third pair. Coburn plays with Timonen (My mistake)

Alright, I didn't mean to get this off topic, just saying its an issue to me when the Sharks finish 14th in the Western Conference because every team is within 5 point of one another in every category. Teams like the Pens, Caps, Sharks and Hawks should be ranked in the 90's in offense, teams that suck should be in the 70's. There should be a large discrepency. Instead the worst team is about an 83 while the best is maybe an 89. Not enough. That's why we had crazy standings last year.

Anyway, back on topic. Are any of you guys having success on the superstar level? I'm finding it way more difficult than NHL 10.

So back to demo impressions.

I'm loving the fact that we'll be able to trade up to 6 years worth of draft picks in Be A GM. I'm hoping this means player rights will be included as well and that they'll be tradeable.

Definitely a nice addition. I'm wondering how the CHL will factor in. Will we be able to see what players did in the CHL (stats). That would be especially cool when going into the draft.

Hjalmarsson, last year's best-kept secret was one of the most under-rated players in the league. Now the cat's out. He's good.

The ratings are just way off.
No he's not. Dude, Mike Green, despite his issues, is the most dangerous offensive defenseman in the NHL. Period.

Mike Green almost had 3x as many goals as Campbell and had 20+ more assists.

Ok...the fan boys are out in full force.

NHL 11 Impressions...go to the NHL Forum for this sort of thing.

It's irrelevant this year. Go into the Help Menu and navigate through it a bit until you get to the Help about the Media Hub. You'll find some new options available.

I agree the ratings seem suspect at times, but having the same OVR in defense isn't too far fetched for these teams, I mean all 6 games were pretty high scoring.

It's not something I'll argue about because it's not worth it.

One thing on ratings, though, that I HOPE they addressed:

Everyone being in the same 78-94 range.

I swear, every player in the NHL (apart from the 10-15 guys who are call-ups, goons, or something) in this game is rated generally between the same 15-16 points. There's no discrepancy, unfortunately. I hope this is fixed...I do feel a big difference in using different players, though...
