NBA 2K11 News Post

2K Sports has just posted their NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, written by Gameplay Producer Zach Timmerman, as he talks about the "Jordan Challenge" and a few other tidbits.

Quote:
"One thing that hasn’t really been mentioned in all the great coverage today, we spent a tremendous amount of time getting the Historic Bulls teams and their biggest rivals into NBA 2K11. We went out and got the rights to the actual players from each era and spent a ton of time capturing their signature shots, moves, and tendencies. So not only are we building you the perfect Michael Jordan in-game, we are also giving you some of the games great players from yesteryear such as Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, and many others. With those guys in the game, it didn’t feel right without adding era specific commentary. I am sure the audio team will get into that more in a future Insight.

For now, here are the Historic Teams that will be immediately available for you to play this year:

1985-86 Chicago Bulls
1985-86 Boston Celtics
1989-90 Chicago Bulls
1989-90 Atlanta Hawks
1989-90 Cleveland Cavaliers
1989-90 Detroit Pistons
1990-91 Chicago Bulls
1990-91 Los Angeles Lakers
1991-92 Chicago Bulls
1991-92 Portland Trailblazers
1994-95 Chicago Bulls
1994-95 New York Knicks
1995-96 Chicago Bulls
1995-96 Seattle Supersonics
1996-97 Chicago Bulls
1996-97 Utah Jazz
1997-98 Chicago Bulls
1997-98 Utah Jazz"

Knicks fans HAD to appreciate those Pistons teams. Pat Riley brought the bad boy blue print to NY with him for goodness sake.
I'm not a big Jordan fan but having my Bad Boys in the game makes this a must buy for me.

Being that 2K is actually using the word Bad Boys, I hope there are a lot of hard foul animations. I don't know why they picked Game 3 though. It would have been cool to have the game in Detroit and see fans waving 'The Bad Boys' flag in the Silverdome, have the crowds constantly boo'ing Jordan. It would really help create that feeling of animosity in the challenge. Plus Jordan lost Game 3.

No offense, but Jordan lost that 63 point outburst against Boston, too. So what if they want to re-create a classic game that he lost? I can tell you some classic UNC vs Duke games that UNC lost. "Classic" doesn't mean your team won a good game. "Classic" means...well, classic.

Don't wanna sound like a jerk, but I question the knowledge of some of the posters about MJ. People forget he lost the 63 point game vs Boston and people think "The Shot" was in that 69 point game vs Cleveland.

Yeah, he lost the Celtic game. But that's the reason it's one of the few games that doesn't have a goal to win. You just need to hit your pt and fg % goal. 2K says " Jordan showed the Pistons and the world that no defensive strategy could stop him for long." But they lost that series. Plus, now there's no Silverdome in the game because Game 3 was in Chicago.

But the goal of the Pistons game is 'to win the game'. That makes no sense; especially since 2K says " Jordan showed the Pistons and the world that no defensive strategy could stop him for long." Umm, they lost that game and that series, lol. Trust me I know my history. Plus, now there's no Silverdome in the game.
I'm not doubting you or any one person; it's all good man.

However Chuck Daly and a few of the Pistons later said they could not stop Jordan. Just because Jordan's team lost doesn't mean they stopped Jordan. I know my history as well, and if you score over 40 or over 60 and your team lost, they sure as heck didn't stop YOU. Jordan had a RIDICULOUS streak of scoring at least 20 points every game--Kobe can't even do that. Jordan didn't get stopped, so 2K is right in saying that.

Just for the sake of clarification, they did not review buzzer beaters at that time via video. No one in the house really questioned whether it counted. And I mean that in a matter-of-fact manner, I do not intend to sound like a punk or anything, just a random fyi.

And just for another friendly fyi, the Pistons were playing in the Palace by 1990 (The Pistons won both the '89 and '90 championship at the Palace in fact - its first two seasons).

You are correct sir. Major brain-fart.

I think the Pistons series is what I'm looking forward to most. If they had the 92 Knicks, that would have taken it. Could you imagine an X-man-Jordan forehead to forehead animation!

I wonder if they where to add more Jordan Challenge moments as DLC would whatever teams added into those moments become new playable classic teams in the game. Heck would be sweet if they just made more historical teams as DLC would love to play as Sir Charles and the 92-93 Suns...hey 2K make it happen!

93 NBA Finals
Game 4
Jordan unleashed
-Score 55+ points
-Get 8+ rebounds
-Shoot over 55% from the field
-get the win

This game he just let loose against Phoenix

Wow, I know playing with the Jordan era Bulls would be awesome, but being able to play with throwback Seattle w/Kemp and Payton - now that will be just an added bonus for me

This game is going to be classic! I hope they can get some of those Pacer teams in there. I'd love to play with Reggie and the crew...relive some of those Pacer/ Knick battles!

Guys, the historic teams are about MJ, it's not about having every classic team. So why would 2K give you the option to play 2 teams that had nothing to do with MJ's Bulls?

* Unless, of course, there are more surprises, but I doubt it. In order to add more teams it means chasing down more players and more rights and more money and more time. Either way, people will never be satisfied.

I agree with you 100%...but that shows you how much people love classic rosters. PC players have been enjoying this since 2K9, because of modding. I think this issue can be remedied, if 2K blows out the customization in 2K12 and future NBA 2K titles for the PS3 and 360.

QFT. It's amazing to see people on the 2K boards BEGGING for Jordan for years. And then they're given him along with some classic teams....and they're reaction is mainly "That's big news? Talk more about Combine and blah blah blah". Some people will NEVER be happy.

Unfortunately, it's not up to 2K, it's up to Sony and Microsoft. Not sure if consoles will ever have the customization possiblities of the PC...well, at least not on this generation.

Sure, everyone would like to have endless possibilites for CAP and stuff, but I'm sure there's a limit to what the console version can give you.

I was looking through pics of the Bulls because of the nostalgia factor that all these news are bringing and came across this:

The 95/96 Bulls. Where are the tatoos?

Dennis Rodman was the "freak" back then, nowadays theres one or two "freaks" per team that DON'T look like Rodman. How times have changed...

# 116 youvalss @ 07/23/10 03:17 PM
Back in the 80's and most of the 90's, your game was your mouth - not your tattoos/hairstyle.
Shame on Kukock

Great photo...As you can see - the "more important" guys are sitting down. But who could have done it without Wennington making a wide-open mid range jumper when MJ was double-teamed?

To each his own, man. These freaks may or may not hurt the image of the NBA, but it doesn't take away from the game.

HA, Jud Buechler is on that pic...lol

Guys look all young on there too, look at Steve Kerr, Jim Clemons doesn't even have hair anymore, and yeah all of that emo tatoo stuff wasnt the norm in the nba at one time.

I would love to see the 1994-1995 Orlando Magic on there, with the infamous "Nick Anderson stole the ball from Jordan" moment(Jordan's 1st playoff's back from retirement). Well I guess that would take away from the "postitve" Jordan moments in the game. I hope atleast for one of those mid-90's Magic teams w/ Shaq, Horace Grant, Dennis Scott, Nick Anderson and Penny.

Looking back, I'm not sure Anderson would go for the steal. Being swept in the finals...maybe he would have preferred the Bulls playing in the finals, and having a hard time vs. the Rockets.
And MJ's revenge the following year - sweeping the Magic...
