NBA 2K11 News Post

2K Sports has just posted their NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, written by Gameplay Producer Zach Timmerman, as he talks about the "Jordan Challenge" and a few other tidbits.

Quote:
"One thing that hasn’t really been mentioned in all the great coverage today, we spent a tremendous amount of time getting the Historic Bulls teams and their biggest rivals into NBA 2K11. We went out and got the rights to the actual players from each era and spent a ton of time capturing their signature shots, moves, and tendencies. So not only are we building you the perfect Michael Jordan in-game, we are also giving you some of the games great players from yesteryear such as Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, and many others. With those guys in the game, it didn’t feel right without adding era specific commentary. I am sure the audio team will get into that more in a future Insight.

For now, here are the Historic Teams that will be immediately available for you to play this year:

1985-86 Chicago Bulls
1985-86 Boston Celtics
1989-90 Chicago Bulls
1989-90 Atlanta Hawks
1989-90 Cleveland Cavaliers
1989-90 Detroit Pistons
1990-91 Chicago Bulls
1990-91 Los Angeles Lakers
1991-92 Chicago Bulls
1991-92 Portland Trailblazers
1994-95 Chicago Bulls
1994-95 New York Knicks
1995-96 Chicago Bulls
1995-96 Seattle Supersonics
1996-97 Chicago Bulls
1996-97 Utah Jazz
1997-98 Chicago Bulls
1997-98 Utah Jazz"

I thought the same thing too. Even the two Bulls teams were similar. Wish they would use it on different teams/years but I won't complain.

Just kidding.....LOL.

But all this classic team info is amazing !!!! Hopefully we can roll with classic teams online.

Great work guys !
He made the last shot which gave him a reason to ask for a replay if it counts or not, but he just walks away and accepts the defeat. The Man.

You know I wish they had one of the Pacers teams from the 90's. Rick Smits, Reggie, Mark Jackson(which prob wouldnt be possible cause of ea),Davis. Man It would make my geeked out-ness triple. Id prob end up playing 90's Pacers vs 90's knicks all day lol.

Is that a final list or are there still some more teams to be announced?

That is why he is my favorite player after all.

I really hope they have the classic stadiums too, and wheres the bad boy Pistons from the 80s, be awesome playing at the Silverdome for a Pistons Celtics game.

We have to keep in focus that this is not a "legends" game. The inclusion of these classic teams is an added peripheral to what is a modern day, present NBA video game. There are a lot of potential classic teams and match-ups I'd like to see, but I understand that's just not going to happen.

After a while though, we are going to start seeing comments like, "Ok, how about present day teams. Please tell me you nailed their signature shots etc." I think 2K is wise in introducing this information in the earlier insights. This leaves room for further insights to touch on the core of NBA 2K11. I think it's a great start though. We still have the revamped broadcast presentation, plans for online etc.

It's gearing up to be a very exciting title.

Did you even see a game from the 90s? Nobody wore short shorts except John Stockton.

The Dream had already demolished Shaq when they met in the 1995 Finals. Im still alittle surprised that there are two Utah Jazz teams, but ohwell. Man I wish they had put either the 92 or 93 Knicks in the game. Those playoff series where great - I want to see some of this -

The Pistons Game for the Challenge is Game 3 which was in Chicago. I think they included that game because almost all of the Challenges have the Bulls on the road. Suffice to say, I think there's a high chance the Silverdome will not be in the game.

Another weird thing is that the Bulls LOST that Game 3 when Jordan had 47. But the goal in the Challenge is to WIN the game, lol. 2K needs to polish up on their history.

My brother and I are going to have some classic online battles with bulls vs Knicks! After that I will take pleasure in beating down the big 3 in Miami. I wonder if 2k knew lebron's decision and had to find a way to make online playable :-)

Marketing Jordan will work on the casual fans, who are the large customer base for 2K, but it isn't working for me. Classic teams, different era Jordans just seem like one big marketing ploy that will make the game remain stagnant.

OS users have been creating classic teams, players and in the case of PC gamers, jerseys and stadiums as well. What 2K is doing all bull ****, in my opinion.

Haha. The one's that have been clamoring for classic teams the most are the hardcore basketball fans! You really think it's casual fans that want Anthony Mason and Vinnie Johnson included in the game? It's all of the 25-40 yr old basketball die-hards. How is including a classic teams mode hurting the overall game. There are a TON of new announcements planned about gameplay.

There is a reason they didn't even mention historic teams in the trailer, because the people that matter wouldn't really care for them. All they want is Jordan.

94-95 Knicks? I'll take it.

Hopefully 2K has the defense to replicate them.

Woulda been cool to see early 90s Knicks. That's when the rivalry was at its best.

Well, we do have the Bad Boy Pistons in. So you can play with the only team to have a winning playoff record against Jordan and the Bulls.

Knicks fans HAD to appreciate those Pistons teams. Pat Riley brought the bad boy blue print to NY with him for goodness sake.

I would say they weren't short shorts, they were definitely above the knee. Now Magic and Larry of the 80's wore short tight shorts. In the early and mid 90's they where loose fit but still short, because you could always see there compression shorts underneath.

Too bad the Knicks didn't have as much talent. Those Knick teams were some of the most overachieving in NBA history.
