NBA 2K11 News Post

2K Sports has just posted their NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, written by Gameplay Producer Zach Timmerman, as he talks about the "Jordan Challenge" and a few other tidbits.

Quote:
"One thing that hasn’t really been mentioned in all the great coverage today, we spent a tremendous amount of time getting the Historic Bulls teams and their biggest rivals into NBA 2K11. We went out and got the rights to the actual players from each era and spent a ton of time capturing their signature shots, moves, and tendencies. So not only are we building you the perfect Michael Jordan in-game, we are also giving you some of the games great players from yesteryear such as Scottie Pippen, Larry Bird, Dominique Wilkins, and many others. With those guys in the game, it didn’t feel right without adding era specific commentary. I am sure the audio team will get into that more in a future Insight.

For now, here are the Historic Teams that will be immediately available for you to play this year:

1985-86 Chicago Bulls
1985-86 Boston Celtics
1989-90 Chicago Bulls
1989-90 Atlanta Hawks
1989-90 Cleveland Cavaliers
1989-90 Detroit Pistons
1990-91 Chicago Bulls
1990-91 Los Angeles Lakers
1991-92 Chicago Bulls
1991-92 Portland Trailblazers
1994-95 Chicago Bulls
1994-95 New York Knicks
1995-96 Chicago Bulls
1995-96 Seattle Supersonics
1996-97 Chicago Bulls
1996-97 Utah Jazz
1997-98 Chicago Bulls
1997-98 Utah Jazz"

I'd love to see them in there, if only to enact a playoff series between them and the Bulls. But as said before, Jordan really had no 'classic' moments against the Rockets, it seems the only teams being included are ones which Jordan had a notable game against (69 points, flu game, etc etc).

It won't be a situation where you switch teams guys... That's not how it works. If they add more teams you won't have to remove existing ones. Must be some problem with Suns 93 at this time. It's the only missing year. Barkely, KJ and Majerle are in the legends pool so I'm not sure what the hold up is with this. I think MJ had his highest finals average in 93, so that would make for the challenge.

This may just be the start...

Many people don't seem to realise this is about Jordan and the Bulls, hence 95 Knicks not 94. Same with no Rockets.

BUT, I am sure this is a starting point. As 2K agree with older players to include them in 2K11 it's logical it expands from there. Hopefully in a few years you have the ability to play seasons from the past.

Be great if they expanded this in 2K12 to include Jordans entire career and all the teams/players from 84-98. How sweet to do a franchise mode where the CPU trades all reflect what happened and you grow the Bulls.

Ultimate MY PLAYER mode MY JORDAN.

They should ultimately bring out a NBA 2KClassics game. Feature all teams from 1980 to 1998. Full franchises from when Magic/Bird saved (term used loosely) the NBA to Jordan taking it forward.

I'd buy 2KClassics at full retail. I bet you all would.

yeap, if I am not mistaken, he averaged over 40 pts 5 rbs and 5 asts with 50+FG% on that finals ... hopefully, they will be added later ... I also hope they add 95 ORL and 96-98 IND (those team made the Bulls sweat).

I think there will be more classic teams down the line, maybe even downloadable classic teams. In the article it states that the teams listed will be available for use immediately maybe there will be more teams but won't able to use them right away...

I mentioned this in another thread but if I were a betting man, I'd say the '93 Phoenix Suns did not make an appearance due to an inability to sign Charles Barkley. Kevin Johnson and Dan Majerle indeed have been in the 2K Legends Pool but Barkley has been forever absent. I get the feeling he just does not want anything to do with being used in a video game (or his asking price is too high). Though I will say, if 2K could snag Jordan, then I suppose anything is possible.

I'm hoping I get to play with some of the Reggie Miller led Pacers squads of the 90s and early 00s.

Rik Smits
The Davis Boys
Derrick McKey
Jalen Rose
Travis Best
Mark Jackson

and of course...THE MAN.

Post 2000 Pacers won't be in there as that has nothing to do with the MJ era (Wizards excluding). However, I really hope they bring in one of the Pacers squads in.

Wonder what they'll do with Mark Jackson as he's on Elite's payroll this year. Travis Best time.

I'm this close to buying a new PC just so I can download those 90s era NBA 2k mods that Bob has been posting on here.

Seeing the virtual Davis Boys and Reggie is freaking awesome.

I used to play Live on the PC and patch it all the time so I'm tempted as well but I'm using TrailBlazer's 1992 Xbox roster so that should hold me over till this hits.

I know exactly how your feeling. I was on the verge of buying a new PC just for NBA 2K11, and I still might. I'm going to hold off until 2K11 drops and see how it is on the 360, since they dropped this huge news with MJ and classic teams....This is actually the first time I'm willing to drop some coin on DLC for more classic teams and arenas.

Give me the Suns, PLEASE give me the Suns!

2 things:

1) To me, it seems like having both the Bulls and Jazz teams of 97 and 98 are a bit redundant. I don't recall much change to the rosters for both teams during that time.

2) Speaking of 97 Bulls and Jordan's flu game, how would that be a challenge? Will they make it so that for that particular challenge, Jordan's stamina is at like 60 or something?

I'm too hyped for this game. I'm with some of yall who want more classic teams, and who's to say they aren't available. I know my personal wish list for teams to be added (if I must only name 5 more teams) would be:

93 Suns (need Barkley!)
95 Magic (beat Jordan when he first came back...YOUNG Shaq and Penny)
95 Rockets (beat that Magic team that beat the Bulls)
87 Lakers (only because the 86 Celtics are included)
98 Pacers (went to game 7 with the Bulls in the EFC)

Posts 207-217 deal with the subject matter of a thread I made, but it was locked. It would have been nice to discuss those 11 posts there though.

Like the thread said, this is not going to be ESPNClassic 2K11--it's NBA 2K11. It's not the Hall of Fame Challenge; it's the Jordan Challenge. Teams Jordan didn't have Classic moments against have not been announced and may never will be.
