I have no clue, I am not even sure you can, I was just brainstorming. I never really messed with that feature personally.

If you can find anything out on the official forums, please let us know.

Well, I went out and bought me a 2GB SanDisk USB Cruser. Guess what? Same thing going on. It's not related to the USB drives. There's something going on from the PS3 that's not allowing me to copy the contents. I have now tried from different profiles on the PS3 with no luck.

I honestly can't believe this bull! I thought getting offline saves was bad on the 360 but this is ridiculous on the PS3. The 360 stuff just had to be resigned and they worked. I can't even get an option to do anything on the PS3. I'm just in an absolute disbelief right now over this issue. I don't know what to try next!

Is your PS3 fully updated? I am stumped, did you also try posting on the official Sony forums in tech support?

Yeah! Updated as in the latest firmware? What would that have to do with this feature working anyhow?

I posted my problem over at PS.com bards but haven't had any replies back to me yet. I'm totally puzzled here!

There has to be some corruption on the HDD or somewhere. I mean everything else I try seems to work okay. I think I'm gonna try to copy a save from PS3 to USB and see if I can do that. If it's not corrupted in some way then it has to be a setting on the PS3 causing problems.

Still working on it Knight. Members over at PS.com boards are trying to help me out. I'll keep you updated.

Still haven't gotten this issue resolved. I can't get any help over at the PS.com boards. I have found some information in regards to booting into "safe mode" on the PS3. I really didn't wanna do this but it looks like my only option. I just have to be careful while in safe mode.

You're only supposed to boot in safe mode if you have problems like mine anyhow. I believe there are 4-5 options in safe mode. If this method doesn't fix my issue then I don't know what to try next. I'll update back once I get something done. This is really aggravating! Thanks!

I hope it works out for you. You definitely have a rare issue.

Also, how old is this PS3? Can you call Sony and possibly get help from them? (is it in warranty?)

The PS3 is a 40GB model purchased in 2008 so warranty is now gone. I do have a 250GB HDD replacement HDD in the console now. I'm gonna probably try out "safe mode" later today when I get time. This is puzzling!

# 730 tonybologna @ 11/24/10 04:40 PM
Well, going into safe mode didn't help anything either. I tried the steps to get things working but still can't copy any save data from a flash drive. I'm just puzzled by this really.

I would open up a chat with PS support but but my console is no longer under warranty. The weird thing is that all other things seem to work from the PS3.

It's pertained to the "save data utility" and also regards to photos and video from a flash drive. It's like something is blocking the PS3 from copying stuff from USB drives. Viewing them isn't an issue because they show up just fine. I would like to get this issue resolved sooner or later. I've never had anything to bother me so much from a console. Geez!

This is the first time I have ever heard of an issue with this Tony.

You can still try Sony's Customer Service. Even though it is out of warranty, they can be pretty helpful when it comes to questions. And maybe they have a resolution you can try.

I don't see the point in doing 4.1 4.2 etc you guys are getting more like SCEA all the time LOL! Stop the patching. I think a few guys should be on the team. Everybody should have someone to look over things. After Knight is done they should be passed on to one person and they should do what they need to do in a timely manner without releasing yet another VERSION! I think people not is such a hurry to release them would do much better work and after is all said and done everybody can take a final look at them before they are released. WALLAH! ONE VERSION ONE WORLD ONE GOVERN.... eh, nevermind.

Meet the new boss

Called Sony support today. Guess what? I got what appears to be a BS reply. I was told that there was no way to copy content like this due to copyright restrictions.

The rep stated that the saves that I'm using might not also be compatible with my PS3. Are you serious? How many in this thread using offline files haven't been able to get them to work?

He stated that maybe the offline saves came from an older or newer firmware than mine and that too wouldn't work. How in the world is all this stuff a factor?

I don't know what to believe now. I just know I can't copy any offline content to the PS3 from the "save data utility". It's totally amazing to me! I can copy photos in .PNG format from the "Photo" tab so it's not an issue with the entire XBM menu. I don't know what to do next here.

Edit: I just tried using the "Game Data Utility" as well. I can't "copy" or "delete" anything from there either. It does the exact same thing as from the "save data utility". This is where the game updates/patches are installed. I was told you could "delete" or remove these patches. I can't do anything with them from here either.

What in the heck is going on guys? I don't understand these problems. Sony didn't give me any more help either. I have now tried 3 different MLB 10 The Show franchise saves and none of them will work but that goes for any offline saves.

This is so puzzling to me. The PS3 works just fine. It's just these problems coming up from XBM. No ability to "copy" or "delete" from certain areas of XBM. What the heck? Does firmware versions have anything at all to do with this?

Tony.....is this PS3 fairly new?
Do you think you could exchange it for a different one?
The guy you got on support line sounds like he has no idea what he's talking about.
There is no way that is the issue that you are having.
This one is starting to pi$$ ME off!

It's not new for sure. This is a 40GB model that was bought back in July of 2008. I have replaced the HDD with a 250GB one. I have no reason to buy a newer one really. This one works good other than my issue and has worked great since I got it too.

I had never tried copying anything from the XBM before. This certainly acts like something is blocking me from copying anything. Almost like a copyright thing but I don't see that being my problem. There are certain games that have copyright protection but most game saves don't have it.

Why can I copy .PNG files from the "Photo" tab but not have the copy option from the "save data utility"? Also, I can't delete my game patches/updates from the "Game Data Utility" either.

It's weird! .PNG files don't have any protection to block me but regular game saves could. This would lead you to believe it is copyright protection but this game(The Show) or most others don't have it. I'm baffled!

I am with Knight on this. It is starting to get on my nerves as well. Not you, but what is happening to you. This is definitely a super rare issue. I will try calling Monday morning to Sony on your behalf as well. And explain about not being able to delete the Game Data.

There is definitely something wrong with your XMB. And I wonder if it has something to do with a slight corruption from the back up and restore to a new HDD.

Have you tried doing this before with the new HDD installed? Or this is the first time since the new HDD that yo are trying this?

The 250GB HDD was a fresh install. I didn't transfer anything over from the 40GB. It was freshly placed into the PS3 and I didn't copy anything over to it. There was no backup and restore used.

This was the first time I'd tried to use the XBM for copying offline saves to the PS3. Even with the 40GB HDD I had never tried it before. XBM seems to be corrupted in some way. I don't know what else it could be here. I'm grasping at straws trying to get this figured out.

None of the "safe mode" options did anything for me either. If there's issues with XBM there's an option to restore it back to default settings. I tried that with no luck!

The explanation from the Sony rep was a joke. To blame it on copyright when the saves I'm using aren't copyright protected is ridiculous. I don't know about his other explanation in matching firmwares. Why would it matter what firmware version was used when making the save? I honestly don't know what's happening but I'd like to get it resolved. Geez!

I've been following this too.

I'm upset just reading through it.

This may be a lame-brained suggestion, as I know nothing about this stuff. But, do you have access to a friend's or relative's PS3?

One that you could search through the settings on, and try to duplicate on your faulty one.

That, and see what you can and cannot copy on a functioning PS3.

Hey...it could at least save you time on the Sony phone-call troubleshooting process (which I'm sure they walk you through every time you call to make sure that the problem isn't you).

That copyright protected stuff from them is complete garbage. I've downloaded and copied several rosters and franchise files.

Almost everything in your game saves should have a "copy" option, as I'm sure you already know. This also goes for files on your flash-drive.

Well, good luck man. I'm pulling for you.

Perhaps something got screwed up in the new HDD install?

I agree partially. If it is already on his flash drive that he downloaded, then it should work. But there are some games where you can not copy any of the saves at all off the PS3. Which is really annoying. And I had to write them down for when I do the back up and restore to the new HDD this week.

By him not being able to even delete "Game Data" either, that is exactly what I was thinking.

Calling Sony now though, and lets see what they have to say (not holding my breath haha).
