NCAA Football 11 News Post

EA Sports has just posted another NCAA Football 11 blog. This one covers the ESPN integration.

Quote:
"Hey everyone, this is Greg Heddlesten and I’m a Designer for the NCAA® Football 11 team here at Tiburon. My main area of ownership is presentation and, as Roy mentioned in his previous blog, when we began work on NCAA 11 it was very important for us bring even more authenticity to the product and continue to blur the line between real life and the game. One of our first goals for this year’s title was to give our in-game presentation an upgrade with the audio and visuals of ESPN College Football.

Previously, we had only gotten our feet wet with ESPN integration by implementing the ESPN SportsCenter updates and the news ticker. But everyone here, as well as everyone on the forums, felt that the ESPN experience just wasn’t complete without the ESPN College Football theme music and the in-game visuals and presentation. We all got our first taste of what an ESPN style broadcast could bring to our college sports products in NCAA® Basketball 10. The excitement, imagery, and sounds they were able to implement gave their game an entirely new vibe. With that in mind, it was time for us to dive in and really give our in-game presentation a new coat of paint with the help of ESPN.

One of the cool things about working with ESPN on the visual side was we were able to see the new graphics package they were going to roll out in 2010 before everyone else. The general public got one of their first glances of this new visual style during the Bowl Season this past winter. It was really important for us to have the graphics in the game match what you would be seeing during the College Football season this year. The reference provided by ESPN really helped our artists replicate the look and UI animations you’ll see on television and help us continue to blur the line between NCAA Football 11 and watching a broadcast of ESPN College Football. So, without further delay, let’s take a closer look at what’s to come!"

So far what EA has released has me pretty pumped up, especially because I passed on last years title, but does anyone know if we'll get bowl patches back into the game. Extremely minor I know but it's just another thing that adds more realism to the game.

It would be great to have a live ticker updating you on out of town scores. Hope this gets in.

Also, I enjoyed in last gen when they showed conference standings before the game - highlighting the importance of the game you are about to play.

But so far so good...

I think the last game to have that feature was NCAA 2001 on PS1(I think that was the last PS1 NCAA). I don't recall that being there in any of the PS2/Xbox versions.

I would love that, but I don't really see it happening. just the way dynasty mode scheduling/simming is done, not sure if it would be easy to do, plus with Online Dynasty, well that should be obvious why.

FINALLY!

Has me ready to play this one, especially since I skipped on last season.

Sure hope so..it adds a bit of variety - shows that the game is more special.

Also, it would be good if games between smaller schools would be a ESPN Radio type broadcast.

I was sure NCAA 04 or 06 had it. I know for sure it was in Madden 06

I could be wrong. I still play '06 and '04 every now and then to continue some great dynasties I had with them, but I don't recall either having "live" updates of other game's scores during your game. I'll have to double check sometime.

It's there; game scheduled before and around the same time as user controlled games would be simmed before the user can start their game. The scores of those simmed games would be shown during the users game based on what quarter they were in and whenever the game was paused.

I think your right. I'm getting my "removed" features confused. lol

the PS1 days had schedulable neutral site games(if I remember correctly), create a play, and some other things like that. I think the PS1 versions did that kind of stuff better though. don't have any PS1 versions anymore, so there is no way for me to know for sure.

Don't worry, though, ESPN's enhanced presence doesn't mean you'll hear Pam Ward butcher the noon Big Ten game. It's still Brad Nessler, Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso in the booth for every call.

If they really wanna make the game look like its on ESPN then they need to have a ticker. And an option to toggle between real life scores and dynasty scores. I mean its in the main menu, would it be that hard to put it in actual gameplay?

they would had to restructure how the weeks work. right now when you play your game, the other games are not in progress. even if your game is a night game, none of the day games have been played/simmed.

not sure what or how much work it would take to change that for the devs though, and not sure how it could even work for Online Dynasties.

Well we now know it want be differant broadcasting teams doing the game were stuck with the same trio. But lets just hope everything else is on point this year in the game.

LOL at the Pam Ward joke in the Kotaku article - she really is a terrible commentator.

As for it being the SAME 3 guys for EVERY game again.... that sucks.

I don't really play dynasty mode, I was more talking about the real time ticker found in the main menu.

# 178 duckfever8 @ 04/16/10 08:54 PM
They better add new lines to Corso, Herbie and Nessler, because I don't want to have jaw-dropping presentation/overlays while hearing the same commentary over and over again. If I hear Lee talking about the "Scooter Special" for the 30 millionth time, ugh...

So, they're FINALLY implementing an ESPN broadcast presentation. Thank God. I, for one, have been harping for this ever since EA started touting their ESPN license. Guess I'll have to revamp my yearly NCAA wish list.

Seriously, I'm liking what I'm seeing out of the NCAA team. I know we're still months from release but they seem to be really raising the bar this year. If the gameplay is there, this could be the year, boys.

Optimistic here. Keep the new info coming, EA. Looking good so far.

Up until now every time EA makes a blog or announces a new feature... or an improved feature, I have been like... really? Wow! So far everything has been really, really good. Finding out that the same three guys are in the booth really took the wind right out of the sails.

Is there a chance that link was wrong? What makes everyone so sure that person knows? Perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part. However, if there are not more broadcasting teams this year then for 12 they need to make that goal number one.

Bring in several teams and have them all record different stuff. Make it as real as possible and give us some emotion. Hoping against all hope that we'll still be surprised.
