NCAA Football 11 News Post

EA Sports has just posted another NCAA Football 11 blog. This one covers the ESPN integration.

Quote:
"Hey everyone, this is Greg Heddlesten and I’m a Designer for the NCAA® Football 11 team here at Tiburon. My main area of ownership is presentation and, as Roy mentioned in his previous blog, when we began work on NCAA 11 it was very important for us bring even more authenticity to the product and continue to blur the line between real life and the game. One of our first goals for this year’s title was to give our in-game presentation an upgrade with the audio and visuals of ESPN College Football.

Previously, we had only gotten our feet wet with ESPN integration by implementing the ESPN SportsCenter updates and the news ticker. But everyone here, as well as everyone on the forums, felt that the ESPN experience just wasn’t complete without the ESPN College Football theme music and the in-game visuals and presentation. We all got our first taste of what an ESPN style broadcast could bring to our college sports products in NCAA® Basketball 10. The excitement, imagery, and sounds they were able to implement gave their game an entirely new vibe. With that in mind, it was time for us to dive in and really give our in-game presentation a new coat of paint with the help of ESPN.

One of the cool things about working with ESPN on the visual side was we were able to see the new graphics package they were going to roll out in 2010 before everyone else. The general public got one of their first glances of this new visual style during the Bowl Season this past winter. It was really important for us to have the graphics in the game match what you would be seeing during the College Football season this year. The reference provided by ESPN really helped our artists replicate the look and UI animations you’ll see on television and help us continue to blur the line between NCAA Football 11 and watching a broadcast of ESPN College Football. So, without further delay, let’s take a closer look at what’s to come!"

Just out of curiosity for the people saying "Add GameDay" exactly how do you see that happening?

GameDay isn't exactly a 2-3 minute segment, I just don't see how adding something like that will work in keeping it fresh. I would argue it would get stale really quickly, I know people will refer me to 2k5 football and frankly I found Berman's show stale about half way through the season and skipped it.

I would love a meaningful pre-game show that focused on the game and what players to watch (hello TV Sports Basketball) but I just curious what "add GameDay" exactly means to most people.

If they did a pre-game show, I would like it to be more of a scouting thing. Have them tell you how often they pass, run inside, run outside, etc. There isn't a stat you can look that up on your own, and unless you keep up with rosters and know the other teams playbook you kind of go into games blind. This would be even better if they added the coaching carousel. Or even get scouting reports before you play the game you can read.

This is exciting news! Hopefully we get abc or espn2 with multiple broadcast teams(and break up the current one) as well to go with it!

The people that use Broadcast camera are usually he ones that play in coach mode. There are some though, like me that would try to play in the view. It really wasn't that hard unless you tried a pass that was over 15 yards. You just had to read the coverage pre-snap, but it was Madden so that didn't always work too well.

And to people asking for CBS... Why? The only time that would be used is for SEC games and a select few Bowl games. I just don't see the point in adding another presentation that covers just 12 teams out of 120. I'd say that not even 50% of NCAA buyers use SEC teams. It may be a higher number compared to other conferences, but I'd say the Big 12 or Big 10 get as many users that play with them too. And judging by Season Showdown, there is a lot of Virginia fans too.... Just my view on it

Yeah I'd rather just have ESPN and detailed commentary than add in CBS, which takes up memory, when it's not used for that many games. I know this is an SEC heavy board but still, you gotta realize only 2 out of 100 or so games are played on CBS every week, the majority of the major games and Bowl Games are played on ESPN/ABC.

And considering you can do that for exhibition games it should be pretty simple.

Anyone know when the next utopia podcast is?

Adding cbs for just a few teams seems a bit silly to me. Now that we have sec on espn it's makes more sense to add either espn2 or abc. That way it covers all teams from every conf.

# 133 canes21 @ 04/16/10 01:13 PM
But CBS only covers a few teams. yea, it'd be cool to have, but why waste a lot of space on a network that I will almost never see as a Miami fan?

Its not like any other company is making a college football game. So suck it up and stop all the crying
We have a right to be skeptical. If you're that easy to buy into a nice little label "locomotion", that's fine. But until I actually play the game, I'm not going to go overboard and be screaming "WOW THIS IS GOTY!!!". People had the same reaction last year when Madden came out and said they had "Pro-Tak". But there still were other areas of the game flawed. So until I get my hands onto the game, or at least see some gameplay vid, I'm not going to be fully down. You guys can buy into the cute little taglines if you want, but until I see it in action, I'm not sold yet.

i like everything i'm seeing except for the shot of the florida logo and the south carolina logo, that looks very much like the begginning to the madden game, can't remember if it was 09 or 10 but i don't like that, that looks arcade like

# 136 Drocks @ 04/16/10 02:11 PM
Shoot CBS.....man I want Versus coverage! LOL

Seriously tho, this is tight, and needed to be in the game, regardless to whether it should have been there already or not. I'm not expecting brilliance necessarily, but maybe they can surprise me in that regard. Just a switchup from what we've been having is nice to see still, it was getting stale. This should at least freshen the game up a little bit.

It's not about liking or not liking the game, it's about having enough information to make a decision as to whether it's a good game worth paying $60 on day 1 for or not. I'm still reserving my decision, is all I'm saying. Show me some gameplay, let me see how the demo plays, then maybe I'll be sold. But all of this rejoicing is premature without even seeing actual gameplay footage. But of course I'm talking to the guy who already said this.

The ESPN integration is cute, but it's nothing revolutionary. The real change that needs to be made in sports video games is for commentary, TV broadcasting, and analysis to be more dynamic. No two games should be alike. As of right now, everything is just a bunch of prerecorded phrases or canned cut scenes and what not that become very stale after two games. Games like FN4 and UFC Undisputed have moved to taking actual commentary from live broadcasts and integrating it into the game. If they could do that with these football games, that would even be a huge step up.

I just hope these are the appetizers and not the main course.

Like most people on here, it's a very good start but I need to see some more to be sold. I was actually a little disappointed after reading the blog as the only changes I see by ESPN integration are: "ESPN" being pasted everywhere in the game, a revised score/time ticker and some ESPNU stuff. I do like where they'll show player stats/photos during the game- that's cool.

I can't wait for more info on this, but I'm especially waiting on changes/additions to Dynasty.

Bingo. Yes locomotion, ESPN, and the new equipment are great - I've been wanting all of them for years. But with the history of NCAA on next gen, there needs to be more to be even more to convince me. Specifically speaking... Dynasty (the meat and potatoes of the game). I do believe that they are on the right track though... hopefully this train doesn't run out of steam (like last year with 3 straight blogs about the almighty Season Showdown).

BTW, ESPN does look sweet from what's been shown.
