Backbreaker News Post

Gameinformer has posted their hands-on preview of Backbreaker.

Quote:
"With All-Pro Football and Blitz hanging up their cleats, EA is the undisputed king of football games. That isn’t stopping Natural Motion from going for it on fourth down with Backbreaker. Armed with the Euphoria engine that has powered the impressive animations for games like Grand Theft Auto IV and The Force Unleashed, Backbreaker aims to take down the NCAA and Madden publisher with its gritty, up close and personal brand of football. To get a better sense of what this game’s about, 505 Games supplied us with a preview build."

Savegames are restricted to a profile.
I still think there was a workaround for this, i can`t remember on what game i used it. I think it was on NCAA football.

If that still works, then problem solve.

Well I know that Microsoft is going to add USB support soon, I have also downloaded rosters for MLB The Show using a USB drive in the past before the game had the roster vault. I would say the PS3 at this point just because I have done that in the past on the PS3 with The Show and the 360 is just now adding that ability.

^^^ I thought that restriction is only for the 360 though, even if there was no workaround you could buy the game for the PS3 instead.

As far as the preview, I am disappointed hearing some of the things he mentioned, but one of his negatives I disagree that it is actually a negative. When he mentioned the running being more like APF and not being able to cut and stop on a dime I actually take that as a positive. To me the running in APF is far more realistic than the "twitch" running you see in NCAA and Madden which is unrealistic at least to me. So if Backbreaker's running game is similar to APF that would actually be a big positive to me.

I am worried about the AI from the sounds of this preview but he didn't mention which difficult level he was playing. I will hold off final judgment until we see if the higher difficulty levels help with some of the issues. If he was playing on easy that might be factor in why the cpu couldn't complete more than 30% of their passes for instance.

USB support would be ideal for situations like this.

USB will NOT work for the 360. Microsoft has already said it. You will format the USB drive and up to 16GB will be available on the 360 and whatever is left will be available on the computer, unless someone finds a way to break the code.

You have to do it the old way with the memory card. Download the save file, upload it to the memory card, and then save it to the 360.

Using a transfer kit, much like 2k5 would work too I would assume....

you'll likely be able to use software to transfer from the USB drive to PC though. I've been using the MS transfer cable to connect my 360 hard drive to my PC for a while now, and before that I used the Xport device. started out using the Xplorer360 software, now I just use the Xport 360 software. works fine.

I've never had to use the memory card/transfer kit method. I've never even own a 360 memory card.

Wow, I thought 360's had USB Drive slots? My old one did at least.

The 360 does in fact still have USB slots. However, I imagine the way that MS is going to set up USB use with the 360 is that, when an unrecognized USB storage device is added, a new partition is going to be created on the USB drive which will be formatted with the 360's proprietary file system in mind. Assuming that this is in fact the case, I don't think any 360 files will even be visible to Windows PCs until some special software to get around this limitation arises.

what about hair and such will there be dreads? why would they leave out things that's surely going to hurt the game. the game devs truly do not understand totally custom. its always something you cant do that is critical to the game. what good is it to have forza system then have all the players look the same. how are you going to create darren sproels and have him look like branden jacobs. this is unacceptable and a game killer. can you see steven jackson or troy polamalu without their hair and imagine its them. why have to.

Quite small is an understatement, they don't even have 10 people working on the game. I think it was 8 last I heard?

After having optimism for this game then pessimism, due to Nat. Mot. not providing much of any info on the game for quite a long time, then back to optimism when new info began to appear, I am back to pessimism cuz I have a STRONG feeling this game is going to suck, based on all the latest previews, and the tackles are the ONLY thing that is going to keep many people's attention, if just only for a minor bit of time.

Ok, the end.

You mean the 2 negative previews out of the 6 or 8 previews?

The writer seemed like he was doing everything to not only compare BB to Madden but to show how in every way it doesn't compare to Madden so from the very beginning I was skeptical as to the validity of the review. The writer complained about certain aspects of the game all while fully stating he wasn't playing the proper game modes but merely speculating. I'll be honest, I was not happy with the write up on the article because it seemed VERY biased. The writer expects players to move with zero momentum and split-second responsiveness when in reality the sport - and the reason the entire Natural Motion exists - doesn't lend itself to that.

I will say that I am quite disappointed about some of the restrictions on the player and team customization in terms of names. It's not too big of a deal because I've learned to edit names with APF but I'd like if the dev team would not have been so over restrictive. Eh well. And I'm VERY disappointed with the fact there is no file sharing. Eh well, it seems like a game that will require a lot of Menu time and honestly, that's not that big of a deal seeing as how much I do so to begin with in other games with Roster & Team edit, Practice modes (APF & M10).

you can take your team named the GreenBay (one word) Packers online though....or GB Packers...

if you want your team colors and logos to be shown you have to add someone you play online as a "friend" and you will be able to see his NFL team and he will be able to see yours.

offline, it seems you can have whatever you want. correct full names and team names for your franchise...(which we didn't know before this preview)

online you need to add someone as a friend (if he isn't already) but you can quickly delete him as a friend after the game, if you choose.
This is the way it is in the WWE wrestling games. They have 2 versions of a wrestler/team build and don't allow certain aspects onto online for policing purposes (ie: inappropriate images & names).

Tackles are only 1 part of football... what about the rest?.. it seems, it sucks. At least by reading GI preview.
Arcade Mode on no telling what difficulty with his CPU opponent's offensive plays highlighted on the screen. OH NO!! 30% COMPLETION %!! GIMME SOME MADDEN!! (panic!)

This game has been the hope of so many simply because it has for so long showcased the possibilities of Natural Motion's Euphoria engine. You can not overlook the glaring issues this preview talks about.

This game may have some pretty looking tackles, but I fear along the way they forgot they were making a football game and have been far too one dimensional.

Another thing is where is the video of these issues? I want to see if the issues are real or if they are there because you can play the game.

well at least on madden, even on rookie level, the QB will complete over 30%..

Keep it on topic please, there is no reason to bring up Madden or any other game if someone posts about the hands on preview.

Only warning.
