NCAA Football 11 News Post

Jon Robinson, over at ESPN Videogames, sat down with Producers Ben Haumiller and Russ Kiniry, as they break down nine changes being made to NCAA Football 11. They have also posted the very first screenshot from the game.

Quote:
"Numbers on helmets might seem inconsequential to some gamers, but if you're an Alabama fan, the fact that the video game recreation of your school doesn't accurately represent the uniform details you cheer so hard for on a weekly basis has been driving you message board mad & as in, leaving threats of "I'll never play the game again," on any sports gaming board you could find in hopes someone at EA will finally hear your cries.

Cry no more.

"Alabama fans, we hear you," says "NCAA Football 11" producer Ben Haumiller. "This game's for you."

That's right, not only will "NCAA Football 11" finally feature Alabama's famed look that includes numbers on helmets, but now when gamers create their own schools using the wildly popular "Team Builder" (over 500,000 teams were created last year), they can put numbers on the sides of their helmets then watch as they actually appear in-game.

But that's not all the "NCAA Football 11" creative crew has in store for this year's game."

Pro-tak and formation subs are nice. But I need my old NCAA 09 camera angle back!!

I know the image if doctored, but still, it looks nice.

Also, is it me, or is the lighting not as bloomed at 3:00 games in 10?

Awesome.

Sounds good, sounds good. While I was one of those who enjoyed NCAA 10 DESPITE what it lacked, until Madden 10 came out and had game speed options, this is a good start. Glad to hear they've "smoothed out" Pro-Tak and will be implemented in NCAA 11. The screen shot looks great. Ref, equipment, graphics, everything.
Now, if they can add game speed options and beef up the presentation, I'll be more than happy.

Cool! No need to buy NCAA 11. I was hoping I could get another few years out of NCAA 10 . . .

Screen shot looks nice but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I don't think that's what it means unfortunately but I really REALLY hope I'm wrong

Well, after a crappy day, this is some good news! I like what I have read so far. Can't wait to see what gameplay improvements (outside of gang-tackling) have been added for '11. I love the equipment additions. I know it's pretty small for some, but I like it.

Formation subs = Yes!

Finally! My favorite franchise is moving the ball forward.

That screenshot looks fantastic. So much popped out all at once; team-colored cleats, new helmet, ref, cutback, lighting, etc.

Oh wait, just noticed the leg bands. Wow! Details. Nice!

Same thing I noticed about the pic. It looks like a plant and cut. Could be a sign of physics improvements.

Hopefully they slow the game down and focus on some basic interactions in the front 7.

Double team pass blocking?!

I wouldn't bet on it. EA is known for capturing good screenshots at the right moment. I won't totally rule out such a significant improvement, but I will remain doubtful.

Probably saving the bigger announcements for later. But this is a really good start.

I like what I'm seeing so far.

notice in the pic, the SEC logo in orange on Clemson's field who is normally in the ACC.
Are you sure that is the SEC logo?

Me too, even though I actually DO play NCAA. I can kinda get an idea of what's gonna happen in Madden by the NCAA info. For instance, since Pro-tak is tweaked for NCAA, you can bet that it's gonna be tweaked for Madden as well. As far as NCAA only info, I like the logo changing when teams switch/swap conferences. One thing I hope they change as well is if you swap 2 teams, their rivals swap as well. For instance, if I swap UCLA and Ohio State, UCLA's new rival should be Michigan and Ohio State's new rival should be USC. That doesn't happen on 10. The rivals stay the same. This is all good stuff, I hope it get's better though.

1. Refs-meh. I was ok without them.

2. Gang tackling-I thought tackling was ok enough as it was. It's not like NCAA 04 where your entire defense would stop once the first defender touched the ball carrier causing absurd touchdowns because they'd all stand around and watch as a tackle was broken.

3. Autosave is nice. I'm curious why everyone says they want it off. Unless you're lame and re-play every time you lose because you can't handle it, I don't see what the problem is. It only takes a few seconds. Impatience over that doesn't seem like a problem to me, but hopefully you guys have better reasons than not being able to handle losing.

4. Auto-Load Rosters is a good idea, especially for people who like me who did rosters last year. Almost lost many hours of work over this once. But I'm not sure I'm doing them next year so meh.

5. Formation subs-please EA, do not even attempt to advertise this. We had this 5 years ago. Taking forever to put something back that we already had and should have had returned long ago is not to be praised.

6. Equipment-this just doesn't matter to me. That's for Oregon fans to care about.

7. Single week bowl seasons-very nice for online dynasties to move more quickly. Great idea.

8. Dynamic conference logos-very nice.

9. Numbers on helmets-See formation subs. We had this forever, it somehow became broken, and now it's rightly being given back. Not to be praised in any way because it never should have left in the first place.

These are just bells and whistles though. Schedules were broke again, and there are glaring gameplay issues mostly concerning defense. Let's hear about fixing that, especially if some of this stuff turns out like the bells and whistles last year, i.e, field goal nets coming up in stadiums that don't have them, or coming up in the wrong place, or the ball going through them anyway, or camera flashes illuminating the night sky...on unreturned punts...in games between Western Kentucky and North Texas...

# 77 jdrhammer @ 02/26/10 10:54 PM
Recruiting needs to be fixed as well where there are less players in the database and CPU teams recruit quality to fill their 70 spots and not sign 25 each year.

Also, the CPU position changes for depth chart purposes isn't happening either.

Also, get sizes right. Too many 6'1" and less DE's. etc.

This year's new dynamic feature, CONFERENCE LOGOS
Dynamic is just the proper software term to describe a graphical element/or interface that changes depending on some other data. On the other hand something that doesn't change would be described as static.

In the past in other series, turning that feature off has often been a miracle solution to some freezing issues...

The picture looks great. I am really excited about this game. However, I felt this way about the game last year so I am not going all in on it yet but so far everything sounds good and looks good.
