Exactly.

Kemp does have a high ceiling. He already shown he can steal a ton of bases, hit, and play great defense.

However, he can becoming a better home run hitter if somehow managed to put that power into good use *i.e. to all fields*. He has great power, but I think I remember a Dodger fan telling me once how Matt Kemp would be so much better if he approached things like Adrian Gonzalez (his opposite field shots are a thing of beauty).

The thing is, Kemp is an exceptional player at center. Teams don't expect power and most of the time average-above average offense in terms of hitting and OBP to go along being able to provide good defense as the "general" of the outfield, but the corner outfield spots emphasize power. Power is normally not asked from a centerfielder.

Where's the love for Adam Jones?

There really aren't that many elite centerfielders anymore, are there?

over the last two years or so, I noticed centerfield not being the position it once was.
I started taking note when Bernie stopped playing

I got love for my boy Bourn!! He had a breakout season last year and is becoming a great lead-off man. His fielding is suberb and has great speed. His numbers shows what a great season he had last year. Im surprised we only signed him for a 1 year would've like to see him sign long term. But yeah he's easily under-rated!!

Damon and Hunter are too far up this list for my taste, and I don't get the disservice toward Curtis Granderson. He's a dream for center field, and he is one of the fastest player's I've seen in a long time.

Michael Bourn is an unbelievable defensive centerfielder and a good leadoff guy. He might be the fastest guy in MLB.

And he is a UH Cougar so I love it!

Ellsbury has the speed and average but poor defense But it seems like Bourn made it over Ellsbury because Bourn has speed and better defense.

Gutierrez is the best defensive centerfielder but he's 8th. Johnny Damen has terrible defense but has power and is 6th.

McCutchen was a rookie but he had great speed, decent average and power and okay defense, he definitely seems like a top 9 player.

Looking at the stats it's a reasonable list and I can understand why it looks the way it does.

IMO I don't think enough weight was given to the falling and rising star factor. Damon is on the decline and guys like Ellsbury and McCutchen are on the rise.

He's not injury-prone as it pertains to games played. He's fine at #2
From 1999 - 2008, Carlos Beltran would have had a durability rating in the 90's - I agree with you there.

However, it is 2010 and he's 32. He missed half the season last year and looks to miss a big chunk of this upcoming season - that's labeled injury prone in my book.

Did he have a good year last year? yes
Is he a "good" player? yes

But has he shown he is a good player other than last year? no way. He had an atrocious year at the plate in 2008.

I know we live in a society of "what have you done for me lately" but come on now. He is fast as heck and a good defensive player but he is only a career .262 hitter and has no power

Give'em a break he's only been in the majors for a few years and you cant base his carrer off one bad year. Every year is different you go in with a different approach every year. .262 for a 4 year carrer is descent nothing special. Power? I dont care about that his a lead-off man we need him to get on base and to his damage from there. We'll let out 3,4,5 guys get the RBI's.

Frankling Gutierrez, OK he has a .268 carrer average what's the big deal here?? How is better? Yes, I ive him he does have a little more strength behind the plate.

I just don't see Bourn being the 6th best CF in baseball after 1 good year. Now if he has a 2010 and 2011 like he had in 2009, then yes, he would be a top 6 or 7 CF.

Perfect example was B.J. Upton's year in 2007. Going into 2008, everyone was proclaming him a top 3 CF just because he had one amazing year. He has since followed it up with two below average years.

Now, in present day, no one even mentions BJ Upton as a top 10 CF.
I tend to agree here. Personally, besides base stealing ability, I don't think Bourn is better than McCutchen. It could be the bias talking though.

Not sure where you get your information but he will not be playing CF for the Tigers. Austin Jackson will start in CF with Damon in left.

Okay, so no Adam Jones OR Nick Markakis in the top ten for either position?

Maybe there was a computer glitch.

For real. I was expecting them to be ranked MUCH higher. They would be considered top-ranked players if they were on the Spankees or the Dead Sox.

I think that I read somewhere that they used the last three years of stats for these rankings. If that's the case, Damon should not even get a sniff of the top 10, and Beltran shouldn't be that high. Based on potential maybe, but stats, no.
