Ratings are not based on ranks, but more on ability. Someone already pointed out his numbers against lefties and it is fitting for what he has against lefties.

Kemp is great, but you expect that power and production from your outfielder. Cano gets a little more recognition being in NYY but Kemp is also great.
Kemp does have a high ceiling. He already shown he can steal a ton of bases, hit, and play great defense.

However, he can becoming a better home run hitter if somehow managed to put that power into good use *i.e. to all fields*. He has great power, but I think I remember a Dodger fan telling me once how Matt Kemp would be so much better if he approached things like Adrian Gonzalez (his opposite field shots are a thing of beauty).

The thing is, Kemp is an exceptional player at center. Teams don't expect power and most of the time average-above average offense in terms of hitting and OBP to go along being able to provide good defense as the "general" of the outfield, but the corner outfield spots emphasize power. Power is normally not asked from a centerfielder.

over the last two years or so, I noticed centerfield not being the position it once was.
