the suction is gone and that makes the movement much better, but it still needs a bit of work.

so far i'm pleased with the update.

I just played 3 fights and I do notice a difference, but I learned my lesson with the first patch. And that is the game will not change what it is at its core. No patch will do that.

That being said, I think the game is where it needs to be (strictly online speaking). All my bouts were Heavyweight, so the boxers moved slower, but I did notice it is easier to escape that magnet feel. People still try to do it, but it doesn't slow things down like it once did. I also feel like I can say stamina may not be perfect, but it's in the vicinity of where it needs to be. I definitely noticed that the two guys I fought grew tired faster when they kept throwing their body shots. In the past I felt I couldn't handle it, but this time around I am able to go deep into the fight. All of my 3 fights went 8+ rounds and the fighters were extremely fatigued. That's something I have been wanting and I think it's now in the online portion of this game.

As an example, in my second fight this morning, I fought a guy that was throwing a lot of punches early. Through 5 rounds I tried my best not to fall into the trap of competing punch for punch. That's very hard for me. Anyway, rounds 6-8 really started to show him tired, and that's when I felt I noticed the patch was positive in the stamina area. My 3rd fight went pretty similar, going 9 rounds and seeing me knock him down in the ninth and then finishing it in the 10th.

I'm not exceptional at this game, so I know those of you that can bob and weave and pick your punches should enjoy the game now. Don't expect to see drastic changes though. The patch doesn't do that. It just levels things some so that you can set yourself up a strategy, rather than feeling like you are manipulating a video game.

The one thing the patch does do that's day and night is illegal blows. In my third fight I could feel my opponent trying to headbutt me. You know when they have a certain style the headbutts roll in. It's nice to know they can't do that now.

So anyway, I like it. I feel like there's more on the side of strategy now, whereas before the first patch just didn't give me the chance to compete on my terms.

And that is exactly what I was hoping for.

First middleweight OWC match was great. I patiently broke down my opponent and eventually knocked him out in 9.

My second fight was in heavyweight OWC. My opponent was taller than me and was leaning back and backstepping as I would throw. The majority of the time this gave him a counter window. Complete and utter cheese. I made it close after switching my style, but this is ridiculous.

patch did improve in some areas, especially stamina.

I am primarily an offline player and am loving the patch particularly the locomotion..foot speed is much improved and its noticeable at least to me..it might be me but I see CPU fighters fighting more to there styles than ever before..and I am noticing new punch animations...CPU punch accuracy has also been toned down when you are moving your head..I likes so far...

The Good

Movement is better and you can move away from punches when you are crowded.
The stamina is better but not by much

The Bad

Still a button masher
Jabs are still useless

The game in championship mode still have the same feel. Players lead with body shots because the jabs are ineffective. The jab still can't break rhythm and still can't set up your crosses.

I will play tonight but I am disappointed so far with the update.
They never said they were going to tune the jab with this update.

My impressions after 15+ matches offline A.I., Online Multiplayer against players who actually watch the sport and have an understanding of the sweet science. Also against players who do not watch the sport, but love fightin' games
Game Play Updates

- Adjusted the locomotion speed at close proximity so that your opponent can no longer trap you with glued feet This adjustment has done wonders playing online/offline multiplayer. Plant pop-pop-pop, step back, side to side, and no force field bringing us back together. Amazing!!

- Increased the stamina cost when continually punching
I'm already economical with my punches, but some online cats aren't; so easy victories-my opponent seemed winded after just several rounds of throwing and missing.

- Increased stamina loss when continually weaving
I don't continually do this, a few opponents did, but I could not see there stamina effects. Though after a few rounds, they didn't do it as often.

- Increased stamina loss for users that spam upper body movement
I have already seen a decrease in this, but it is still early for final judgement.

- Can no longer perform a perfect block when spamming the block
No comment yet, haven't met a block spam master.

- Increased the stamina cost when continually running away from your opponent
I don't run continually, so can't say for sure. Most opponents didn't box defensively.

- No illegal blows can be thrown by either user when one user is in a stun state
This works and I like it.

- Increased stamina cost of Haymakers
Can't see opponents stamina meter to see if it has a big effect, but on mine I saw my stamina drop about 25% more than previous.

- Tuned punch accuracy when opponents are moving their head
I love this as well. Really has lowered punch landed percentages against me. I had a match where my opponents connects were in 40% percentage range.

- Reduced locomotion speed when throwing punch combos
I noticed some of this against a continuous body spammer. Though he/she's strategy was not an issue, because we aren't glued together anymore.

Quick question anyone know if we can now edit the ratings of licensed boxers..and if so how?...

# 15 Steven547 @ 12/02/09 08:17 PM
I'm curious as well because the notes for the patch said we could do that. Not sure if it's this patch or another one is supposed to come out with the B. Hopkins DLC.

# 16 HotSauce2k3 @ 12/02/09 11:15 PM
A lot of noticeable changes. The increase in stamina cost is pretty significant.

One thing I noticed and love is that the bob-and-weave motion is no where near effective as it was before, at least against the jab. I used to have matches where I'd be forced to go only to the body because the other guy would just weave-spam right through all of my head punches.

So I'm guessing this is only for the Xbox 360 at the moment because I didn't get a update for the Ps3.

This sounds crazy, but how can I verify I have the patch? I turned on my ps3 and left the room to check on my kids, does the title updates start automatically? Stil relatively new to the ps3

You'll be able to tell by the movement of the boxers. So much better now.

I just played 3 straight ranked matches and it was a lot of fun. Way, way better than pre-patch. Awesome job EA.

Those were definitely some good fights, Grunt. We'll have to rock again soon.

I got to play online quite a bit today and I'm pleased with the changes. Not getting glued together when fighting inside is a huge change for the better. I got so sick and tired of guys charging me like a bull all fight and not being able to get away and mount an attack. I'm happy they did something about this. It makes fights feel a lot more fluid.

I definitely noticed a difference in stamina, and maybe I'm bugging but it seems like the counter window has been shortened a little bit too. A lot of the punches that I usually get counter shots on were either being blocked, dodged, or landed without the counter effect. I was still getting counters but they seemed more appropriate than in the past. Pretty good stuff on EA's end.

I don't fight randoms too often but I played a couple of dudes today. They didn't really fight the type of fights I like to see but it wasn't too bad. I got a kick out of watching one of my opponents move his hands up and down like a maniac and rotating his body 1000 times per minute. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish but it was interesting to say the least. He didn't last too long...
