NBA 2K10 News Post

As a big fan of the NBA 2K series, I’ve watched it transform into nothing short of a masterpiece. During this generation it has easily been the top hoops title when it comes to playability, accuracy and depth (some argue it's the best sports title around), but there are some issues that need fixing. And when you play a certain game a ton, you tend to notice a lot of things you would like to see improved -- not because the game is bad but because you expect the world out of a title you already love to play. So in my next column, I'll to focus on the top 20 issues in the NBA 2K series.

Here, though, I want to focus on some of the things that didn’t make that list. Since these are still vital and necessary issues that need to be addressed, I figured I would touch on them, even if only briefly.

10. End of Quarter/Half/Game Buzzer Beaters – While Kevin Harlan certainly gets excited by buzzer beaters, what about everyone else? What about getting mobbed by teammates and the crowds exploding in celebration? While buzzer beaters are not celebrated like game-winning shots, let’s see our player jog excitedly off the court to a round of teammate high fives. What about the mandatory three sets of replays from every angle? Hitting a buzzer beater to win a game in my season the other night showed me that there’s still a little bit of work to do in this regard.
I pray this is still NOT in 2K10

He's talking about the presentation aspect of it.

I can honestly say, you're the only one I see keep posting about success rate of buzzer beaters. IMO it's in your head. If you were right, Flip Murray would be leading you to the playoffs in our online league.

I absolutely agree with everything you said here MMChris

I agree with you greatly on the Free-Throw boxouts. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to slam a controller on 2k9 because I lost a lead in the late going because of that.

Great article, but i do have one comment. I believe you are giving too much credit to the current NBA when it comes to defense and fundamentals. Many of the guys do not Box-Out and when they do box-out they are penalized by the media for not getting rebounding numbers (Eddy Curry boxes out almost every time, yet avgs 5 reb a game). NBA players repeatedly leave their feet on perimeter pump-fakes (just ask Kobe, or even Ray Allen as he got Joakim Noah to foul him at the end of a very important playoff game by simply pump-faking).

Seriously, I've had players miss buzzer beaters more than they make them.

In the words of BS; if yall can't see that 2K allows some BS to fly at the end of shot clocks/quarters/halves/games, then yall need to take off your 2K Colored Glasses

Or, and this is a stretch, maybe you're just wrong.

Just throwing it out there. It's a real easy cop out to say someone has the "glasses on" in this forum. Just a little while back you asked for 2k to remove the away team shaking the screen on FT's for 2k10, when it was removed in 2k9.

Head scratcher.

I'm pretty sure buzzer beaters aren't an opinion, they either go in or they don't and I never saw buzzer beaters to the level that you claim they're at.

Gonna have to agree with DC on this one. Whether it's psychological or not too many of them went in in 2K7-9 (imo). 2K10 is a different story.

Guess it won't feel any different then!

Well DC I will cosign your take on too many end of team shot clock baskets going in, but as far as end of halves/games it was not overdone imo. No 2k ..

This is a completely different story. Shot clock and end of half/game/quarter shots are two completely different things.

man id be lying if i didnt say that i do see that i do see a high % of shots go in at the end of the shot clock....as well at the end of quarters etc....everybody sees something different...lol i remember DC used to argue me down that big men didnt hit uncharacteristic jumpers in 2k8 when i was seeing it consistently...go figure lol

Co sign this article. These things would go a long way toward making tis game more sim. I don't really have a problem with the rebounds on free throws, only occasionly.

Great breakdown. I can agree with most of it and would add that the pick and roll passing needs to be fixed. Most times, when I hit the button to pass to the rolling player, the AI chooses to bounce pass, unnecessarily most times and the pass ends up getting knocked around then stolen.

I would also add to the stealing animation post that the animations just need to be fixed. A lot of time, my guy will animate in some wonky, non-contextual way that takes the user out of the play and it's still prevalent in the Combine.

The fatigue thing I'm not sure of. I would play full court press and even step it up on defense with that option to boost a particular aspect of your team that was given twice per quarter and my guys seemed like they would never fatigue playing at such a high level of defense. However, the auto subbing would be "somewhat higher" when playing at that high level. More times than not, I could shut down other teams with my Nets on All Star when playing that type of defense.

The buzzer beater deal I definitely co-sign on. Players would usually act like they just made a regular ole shot or sumthin' and would kill the moment.

As for post play, the controls are too wonky, and more times than not, my player would do something to trigger that clumsy falling forward animation which would trigger that "knock the ball of my hands" animation by the defense.
