NBA Live 10 News Post

Check out the new NBA Live 10 blog, going over passing controls.

Quote:
"So for this week, we’re going to take a look at passing. Passing is one of those features that hasn’t seen a ton of new innovation in recent iterations. Everyone just expects to be able to get the ball from one player to another with as little frustration as possible. Sometimes that’s easier said than done. It seems like every year people complain about “directional passing,” saying that their passes are getting thrown to a different player than the guy they’re pointing at. We spent quite a bit of time working on the directional passing logic and re-tuning the system to accommodate the tendencies of different people. You’d be surprised at how different the expected behavior is from one person to the next when trying to throw a simple pass. Some people flick the stick, some swing it, and some people are always just off a little bit because they can’t compensate for the camera angle. Another tool we gave the user this year is the player indicator direction arrow. If you’ve seen videos of gameplay you’ve probably noticed a little arrow protruding from the ball handler’s indicator. That arrow represents exactly what you’re doing on the left analog stick at all times."

Again guys, lower difficulty to showcase a certain feature.

Also love the off-ball AI with teammates setting picks for you as you control an off-ball player.

The baseline layup and fall down was sweet! I was watching thinking "oh God don't tell me this is going to be a dunk", and he layed it off the glass off balance. Nice!

One question. What level is this video on? That dunk in the lane by the Hornets (by Rasual Butler?) just wouldn't happen in a game. He was too ferocious in the lane and elevated in traffic. He looked like a young Amare. That was disappointing to see.
It was either on rookie or pro(as marcus states it's on a lower difficulty in the first post) and that was Emeka Okafor that dunked.

Looking good!

But why was it so easy for the player to catch that alley oop???? Is the game going to be this easy????

Kidding. Put the guns away.

Best vid yet.....the passing controls look sweet and easy to use (thats the key). If the feature is to sluggish or to complicated to pull off I wouldn't use it. These advanced passing systems give you more control of what you want to do (either passing or playing off ball to receive a pass) but look really easy to get the hang of.

It's going to be really tough to decide which game to put into the PS3 this season whenever I want a hoops fix. But thats a good thing!

I know you're kidding Pared, but I forgot to point that out as well. it did look a little crazy, but I'm glad to hear it's on a lower difficulty level.

I am having a very hard time choosing between the two. I guess I just want to see some 2k gameplay and i want to hear about the franchise or season mode in Live. But I am loving what Live is doing so far. I love that we have a choice still. Unlike in Madden.

Can't wait for this one... reading now.

EDIT: Where are you "splashy net" people now, huh?? That was gorgeous.

And yeah, these off-ball controls are very intuitive... MUCH better than the controls we had in 2K8-9 where you have to scroll through the players then choose what they do, etc.

Is there a give-and-go mechanic where you can pass to a man, cut to the rack, then call for the ball back? I always enjoyed that.

The game looks GREAT. I assume it was on lower difficulty again to show stuff off more easily, but I was just taken aback by how smooth it looked after seeing these videos from people who don't really know the game. Seeing Mike play it makes it look so much better... loved the contact/fall animation by Salmons.
OUch that was raw but you're right big bro sometimes they are annoying

That was great, great great great good job EA

Really impressed by the passing controls this year. I wasn't sold on NBA Live's resurgence this year, but I think I'm getting there.

It's going to be so fun to control PGs this year.

Thanks Marcus!

Those controls are going to take time, but overall are amazing in motion. I can see now, this will be my primary basketball game until NCAA BB 10 is released. But no doubt about it, Live 10 will be the real deal.

You already had a great online setup, a nice Dynasty mode, but now you are improving both of those, now with great controls and better animations. And yes though net swooshes were great too.

Thanks for sharing, hurry up with the demo

Okafor
and I liked the fact that even on easy leve the AI is wild when attacking an open lane

Nice! I enjoyed that video much more than some of the others I've seen. The freestyle passing could be incredible, and the temporary player lock is something I've been wanting in Live for a long time. Damn demo cannot get here soon enough.
