how can people say GREAT JOB 2K Or be pissed at them as far as not buying the game.. We have 2 freakin screens and a feature set...What can anyone tell about this. Truthfully I'm kinda upset at 2k because we have gotten nothing imo...Ea has release gameplay videos already.. They were sending us screens months ago. These games are coing out in september correct??? Why is there no hype for this game.. I love hockey but can only get one game...I am looking to put my preorder in very soon.

Well first of all, there is more than 2 pics. Secondly, there is suppose to be a gameplay vid next week supposedly. How can we get excited about this? Well, based on the 13 pics there are, it's an obvious graphics improvement over 2K9. Second, based on the features they have listed, they are all very welcome features. Granted, the gameplay demos will help , though I don't even put much stock into them, as there is usually idiots playing and on the default settings. So I guess yeah, wait for the demo before...wait the demo usually sucks as well. In any case, it seems quite apparent that VC is finally making 2K hockey a next gen title. That's plenty to get excited about if you're a 2K fan all in itself.

PS:The gameplay vids for EA didn't impress me, but that's most likely because of what I already said.

On to NHL. Monday saw the release of the first screen of gameplay action for 2K10: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2265082&id=6993196358. Today is going to see many features released in an exclusive article from IGN (link to be added here later). In anticipation of that, I decided to release the second screen (http://www.facebook.com/2KSports#/photo.php?pid=2276619&id=6993196358&ref=mf) and then offered more NHL 2K9 shirts for the first three who re-tweeted. Hope you guys enjoy the shirts! The gameplay features are wide ranging and really terrific this year as explained in the article, and now videos will start being released as we get closer to release. Seen cuts of the first one... so it's not far off. I have said it before, and I'll say it again. Ovi, you are the man!

I don't see the rush either. It's not even August yet so there is plenty of time. No need in getting tons of info 3 months before release. I'd rather have it closer to September but that's just me.
Love the features list though and the graphics looks like they have received a major upgrade.

# 25 Eddie1967 @ 07/26/09 03:27 AM
So true, there is plenty of time left for videos to showcase the game. They still have the whole month of August. What I'm saying is right now it's still a bit early to put out tons of info. I think it's overkill to do that. I would go nuts having all of this video and things 2 months in advance.

In the end its can you make a good game. We willl see, this is VC's 2nd year on it.
Right, and per a quote from a sports movie: "If you build, he will come..." or in this case "I you build it, they will buy it..."

They have already started to "Ease our pain." with some of the screenshots and info released. Let's hope they keep doing that

And then, maybe they make the 3rd quote come true and "Go the distance" and bring us a good product this year

For those of you that don't know these quotes, they come from the movie "Field of Dreams".

Good to hear the AI is rewritten. This could be a disaster, or this could be what many have waited for (too long the AI has been too linear). Screenshots, feature lists, and previews articles (usually from people who hardly understand the game of hockey) won't do much. The next best thing to actually playing the game would be gameplay videos. We'll be able to see how the AI plays a bit in those. I'm excited for that.

I agree with this as well.. It's not that I think 2k10 will be a bad game... I am a hockey fanatic and would like to have both hockey games. But I just can't.. Some will tell me to rent both and see what one I like. Well if I did that with everygame I would be broke. EA as a company seems to be turning around in the aspect that they are more hands on with the community...If you told me that years ago I would've laughed in your face. I personally love the footage that we have seen for nhl10... I do think both games will be pretty good with both having it's share of issues. The screens for 2k10 do look very good.. The 2k of old had Topshelf Tuesday months in advance and Football Fridays for NFl2k5...They would focus on a certain topic everyweek until the games release. It wasn't much info but that sure as heck got me pumped!! That's what I am looking for...I am not looking to have a blowout of 25 vids and 100 screens with 10 blogs thrown inbetween.

Exactly. The better game will win out in the end. EA has always been the king of marketing and IMHO they are also the king of making mediocre sports games. They market the hell out of their NHL, Football and NBA products but you know why I haven't purchased any of them for the last 3 or 4 years? Because I don't think they are very good. No early footage or community interaction is going to sell me. The better game will. Think of all the yearly hype we hear about madden, especially for the last 3 years and look at the scores given to that game, very high and very undeserved. If you tell me it's a good game, I will tell you your crazy (in a joking way of course). IMO 2k doesn't need to do anything more than to continue to make their games better and VC has already shown that with their NBA, MLB and NHL products IMO. And let's not act like we won't have any videos prior to the games release. I mean it's still July. Plenty of time to give the fence sitters what they need to make a decision. I'm curious as to what the fence sitters will say when footage is out in the next few weeks. The reason I go with 2k in all of their sports games has nothing to do with the features list, or the videos shown or commercials. It all comes down to who makes the better games and for my money it's 2K/VC. EA needs to SHOW ME something else besides community day this and that, videos, commercials and screen shots. They need to make a better game, then I will purchase their product.

Eddie, how can you honestly claim EA's games "aren't any good" or 2k "is the best game ever" if you don't even purchase EA's game to try it and give a fair shot?

I don't need to purchase a game to know whether it's good or not, You have heard of blockbuster, hollywood video, etc. I said they aren't any good, well I will change that to not good enough. I'm not saying they are garbage because they aren't but they just haven't done enough for me up to this point. For my taste and my money EA's game just aren't worth a purchase. That could change with hockey this year but I just don't like to throw away 60 bucks on a video game for a maybe. But that's just me.

As deep as the games are nowadays (especially with all of the sliders), it's impossible to fully explore these hockey games on just a rental. That's cool that you like 2k, but I really don't think you're giving EA's title a fair shake at all. I suspected as much based on some of the comments you've made over the years...a lot of the issues you have with EA's game can be addressed via the sliders and/or the post-release patches they have done.

You and I both know that if someone gave their thoughts on the 2k game based on the demo or a rental only, you'd be all over them (and with good reason, as that just isn't enough time). Just making sure it's called both ways.

Hey your right. I would do just that. Something me and Realm have in common lol.

But I do plan on giving NHL 10 and madden more time this year. I am pleased with what I have seen from both of them this year and I'm leaning towards purchasing both to REALLY see what they have to offer. I will probably lean on you and Realm to get a better understanding of EA hockey, i.e., sliders, a.i., adjustments, skill stick etc.

My main turn off with EA hockey has been the skill stick and the animations that 2k seems to do so well, i.e. hitting, goalies, etc. As far as Madden, well it just hasn't been very good lately but that seems to have changed based on the demo.

Believe me, I throw money away all the time but it bugs me more to do that on video games that I may end up not liking. Strange but true.

I hear ya...$60 for a game you don't like is a hard pill to swallow. But I really feel both games will have a lot to offer this year -- which will be great going forward as they will continue to push each game's developers.

Oh, and I totally agree with your Madden comment. Give me NFL 2k5 any day of the week!

Or AllPro. I was finally off the fence after playing the Madden demo, then I popped in AllPro today and now I just don't know.

What does this have to do with NHL 2K10?

One thing I would really kill for NHL 10 to have that 2K9 had was the specific goal announcements after a score. Like, in San Jose (obviously because they're all SJ fanboys lol) they have the keyboard sound that's used in the HP Pavillion Center after announcing who scored and who assisted. I noticed in places like Chicago they have the old timey organ, and in Carolina it plays the tarzan sound whenever someone scores. Stuff like that is really cool and there's really no way to add that into EA's games as far as custom soundtracks go. I've always liked that authenticity about 2K9.

However, that's not enough to keep me playing the game alone, but the attention to detail is always enough to keep me looking at 2K's sports titles, not just hockey.

I agree. It's more authentic. It has more personality. What's bad for some people is great for someone else. I personally think the A.I. is challenging and realistic for me. But what good would an outstanding A.I. be if the overall atmoshpere and presentation were dull. I have a hard time liking games that don't get those 2 things right.

Its like some of you guys have a agenda give a backhanded shot and then a so so shot and then kinda a good thing then a prayer of hope for poor 2k and then a well lets see more.
Me personally Im not here to play games and mince words and I dont always explain myself well but Im always honest in what I do and dont like .............
Somebody mentioned they loved 2k9 on the ps2 and I couldnt understand why but to hear the passion in his words it really taught me something .
So I can respect Joeblow who likes to play zamboni races cause hes happy and really isnt that all that matters .
Exactly to each his own. I have been smashed over the head for glowing praise of 2k sports titles but I say those positive things because that's the way I truly feel. I never understand those who have a problem with that.

Great Post.
