NCAA Football 10 News Post

Welcome to week #1 of our interview with the Producers of NCAA Football 10. Every week until release, we'll be posting an interview. This week we have Ben Haumiller, designer of NCAA Football 10, answering the questions.

Quote:
Operation Sports: "What kind of defensive gameplay enhancements/tweaks have been implemented into this year's game? What has been done to tone down the wide open gameplay?"

Ben Haumiller: "Here are a few things we’ve done (obviously not everything):
Pursuit Angles, Defensive line tipping passes, Man Coverage has been improved, Press/Release enhancements (from WR/DB interactions), and Adaptive AI all make a really big impact. I should also point out that players in deep zones (depending on zone coverage rating) will be more aggressive in going after passes.

So examples:
• Just taking a speed back and running outside does not equal a score (pursuit angles)
• "Elite" Corners make a bigger impact between the abilities to jam receivers and simply cover better in Man
• Adaptive AI can force you to change up your play calling. I say can because if you are a way better team, all the reaction ratings in the world will not always help the defense
• And just more incompletions in general help defense (tip passes and more realistic misses on passes)"

No formation subs confirmed!

I bet 99% of NCAA gamers would prefer formation subs over SS.

BOOOOOOO!

Unbelievable. Still no formation subs. That is totally unacceptable.

# 3 moylan1234 @ 05/22/09 07:59 PM
yeah that's pretty sad. there's just no understanding of what the fan base wants

I like how almost all of the interviewer's requests for new features get answered with:

"we're looking into it for the future"

or

"it works the same as it did last year"

This is why people have a more positive impression of franchises like Madden and NHL right now as opposed to the generally negative impressions of NCAA:

Madden's and NHL's developers have actually been able to meet most of the community's (reasonable) demands, while the NCAA team seems busy fulfilling demands that no one in the game's community actually asked for.

It's funny, because it seems like they've been saying that for years for numerous features (in-game saves, formation subs, etc).

Not improved from 09:

1) Custom stadium sounds
2) Sliders (same as they were after the patch)
3) Commentary (other than community names submitted to EASW and Erin Andrews). In other words, same old Nessler, Herbie, Corso
4) Still no custom playbook
5) Still no formation subs
6) Still no in-game saves

Wow. NCAA 10 is like your 401(k) a few months back. The more you look at it the uglier it gets.

I can already tell that this game will disappoint. Why do you think it is almost June and you have heard nothing about this game. Usually when that happens its a bad sign.

When will we see custom playbooks, formation subs, or random plays in practice make its return?

A: Selecting random plays in practice mode was available in NCAA Football 09 by either formation-set or by play type. It will also be available in NCAA Football 10.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, thanks for not answering the question at all. And this isn't the only time in the article he completely fails to answer what was asked.
I see he confirmed no spectator mode of any kind again this year (which was one of my big hopes)... Does anyone know if we can play co-op in an online dynasty this year? I know co-op was part of play it now and regular dynasty last year, but not online.

In dynasty mode, will every game be a sellout crowd or will the crowd be based on the program and how it's doing?

A: We tuned the logic to determine the initial attendance for games. You will still see an increase in the crowd size for the first home game of the season and for rivalry games, but for teams having a poor season vs. a non-premiere opponent the crowd will be smaller.

Yes!

Yes!
I'm hoping to see that in madden. mlb 09 the show does a fantastic job at this. Also check this out.

Will we see post game celebration cut scenes and/or team entrances?

A: We have not announced our updates to pre-game intros yet. These will be announced in an upcoming blog post.

Yes!
Is this a trick question? Do they mean the attendense numbers were tuned or that the crowd doesnt look as sold out anymore?

NCAA = air. 3/4s of that interview was "no, not this year" the rest was stuff that already explained.

And people wonder why we have no faith in them.

# 13 CKW11 @ 05/22/09 09:28 PM
Wow that was a pretty terrible interview, most of the guy's answers were "it works the same as last year". From this interview he makes it sound like this is the exact same game as last year...besides the addition of SS of course

# 14 vanderbiltfan87 @ 05/22/09 09:29 PM
Has the NCAA team done anything this year??? (insert random bits of profanity) It looks as though I will gladly not be purchasing NCAA 10 this year.

# 15 Landlordos7 @ 05/22/09 09:38 PM
Am I allowed to post something simple and straight to the point of how I feel such as "you guys are shamefully bad at your jobs" or something like that?

This one doesn't count, because I'm not actually saying that, I'm just asking if I can.

# 16 drlw322 @ 05/22/09 09:38 PM
the better question is, so what did you do this year that madden did not port over to you. hmmmm (nothing).... wait i forgot season showdown oh yeah and team builder. team builder i can live with but season showdown as one of your big features (sad). oh yeah we added windsock and field goal as part of the presentation package (wowwwww). sad day for college football fans

hooray for the NCAA team.

# 17 datruth @ 05/22/09 09:40 PM
Thank You OS for saving me $60

# 18 jdr4693 @ 05/22/09 09:55 PM
I just don't understand EA's logic here? It's been like 5 years of this crappy game.

Why EA.... Why. You have such a loyal fan base and you dont seem to care about them. I will just update my rosters agian and buy Backbreaker and create college teams.

# 19 Lava @ 05/22/09 10:08 PM
What can you tell us about the presentation aspect of NCAA? Will we see more stat overlays?

A: We’ve added various presentation elements to NCAA Football 10 including flags around the stadiums, windsocks on the uprights, field goal nets, camera flashes, and dynamic bowl end zones.

Wow, really? Flags, windsocks, nets, and camera flashes are what he lists for presentation upgrades? The bowl endzones trumps all of those, and is a good addition, but wow...basically presentation will be untouched, awesome.

And I don't know about you guys, but in the latest vid it didn't look like man coverage was anymore effective than last year, to me at least...

Have any additions and/or changes been made to the custom stadium sounds system, i.e. new situations to play sounds, tweaking of when sounds play, how sounds fade out, the number of specific sound events one can store in one profile, etc.? Will stadium sounds have the same number of slots?

A: The Custom Stadium Sounds feature will continue to work the same as it did in NCAA Football 09. With the addition of TeamBuilder, you will be able to set custom sounds for these schools using the “All” setting.

Am I the only one who is upset that the sounds will be tied to the all setting. If I am reading this correctly that means that we can't have different songs for different CAS's. Also, this probably means we can have both songs for our CAS and songs like War Eagle for Auburn. Very disappointing.
