Backbreaker News Post

The official Backbreaker forums have posted a couple of screenshots that confirm 11 vs. 11 gameplay.

"Another reoccuring theme I've spotted has been the constant doubt over whether we will offer 11 vs 11 gameplay. I know that the NM guys have repeatedly said we will but that we've yet to supply evidence proving that. I'd like to stop that argument for good with a couple of images that the guys back in the office have been so kind as to prepare for me. This isn't final, visual treatment will be changed etc etc etc, but I've attached two shots displaying the current view shown when you pull back from the line of scrimmage to display the routes for your chosen play. These are for you... enjoy, but please remember that we are still in development."

They need to know right away, unless they have line and linebacker shifts, and that 4-3 is shifted to a pinched line and spread linebackers, that 4-3 alignment is F'ed up. Other than that things look pretty good.

Looks good to me. Still not big on the player models but I imagine when the game is in motion that will not be a big deal.

That goes to my biggest concern about this game. The X's and O's and the actual football stuff.

When in zone will defenders maintain leverage. Will they play run force properly. Will contain be done right, etc.

everyone who is criticizing this game needs to relize they are building this game from the ground up! I'm sure if they keep making games they will be able to meet the nit pickers needs in acouple years. It looks good for their first installment.

He's addressing people who think that this game is going to be amazing just from screenshots and tech videos.

What double standard? What does Madden or NCAA have to do with my concerns about the game?

Umm...think maybe you could host them somewhere and then post them here? There are already way too many people who have my email address as it is.

Nice to see 22 people on the field. That's a plus. The alignment looks screwy and the stances are terrible, but I don't expect miracles. All I really expect out of BB is a fun game that puts me down on the field... something less technical but more visceral. It wont be a Madden killer, I'm sure of that. But it can be a good diversion.

Maybe for now, but I expect Backbreaker to be a "Madden killer" in acouple of years and acouple of installments later i.e. Backbreaker 2012.

Unfortunately, Madden will always be king as long as it's the sole owner of the NFL and NFLPA license. Average consumer will always buy a game with the licensed NFL logos, players and teams over an unlicensed one.

Can't believe I registered to see those crappy screenshots.

Game is average at best, APF still looks better, and to think the guy in the thread was even dissing Ian Cummings.

For everyone else who doesn't want to be cheated out of viewing these by registering.

Agree re the NFL licensing points; it's just way too much of an advantage to expect any non-licensed game to be able to seriously overcome. And this game is even more disadvantaged than APF since it's pretty much being created from scratch. I really don't think much can be expected of this game, but all things considered... it doesn't look too bad. If they fix the player proportions (upper bodies look too lanky), get some dynamic stances, and they pay enough attention to the player interaction (and not just the tackles), then the Naturalmotion engine could be a treat to watch/play with
