Backbreaker News Post

The official Backbreaker forums have posted a couple of screenshots that confirm 11 vs. 11 gameplay.

Quote:
"Another reoccuring theme I've spotted has been the constant doubt over whether we will offer 11 vs 11 gameplay. I know that the NM guys have repeatedly said we will but that we've yet to supply evidence proving that. I'd like to stop that argument for good with a couple of images that the guys back in the office have been so kind as to prepare for me. This isn't final, visual treatment will be changed etc etc etc, but I've attached two shots displaying the current view shown when you pull back from the line of scrimmage to display the routes for your chosen play. These are for you... enjoy, but please remember that we are still in development."

It didn't show enough to judge the gameplay at all.

As far as I it's the player being controlled.

It showed a pass to a reciever...Isnt that gameplay or am I confused. It showed a running back breaking tackles and fighting for yards. I think thats gameplay too.

I am being very realistic with my expectations for this game. Of course there are the pros to think about which is a new technology & some open competition for football gaming, but as stated by others, this game is starting from the ground up so there are going to be a lot of problems (or at least I forsee that) initially.

It's nearly impossible to expect a game as complex as football to have a brand new football engine that could rival that of 2Ks or even to a lesser extent Madden & Blitz. It's going to take a couple years for this "machine" to be finely tuned and up and running from the X's & O's stand point, that's just being realistic. The devs have been working on BB for, what 2+ years, so I may be surprised.

Personally, I give every football game the same benefit of the doubt: test by renting/borrowing & then deciding on my purchase. I am the consumer, so a gaming company needs to EARN my money. What I'm looking for in a football game is not necessarily what others want. What I look for is: SIM style gameplay, great Xs & Os, and replayability. As skeptical as I was with APF initially, it somehow has lasted 3 plus years in my 360 even without the NFL license.

Now, dont' get me wrong, I'd love, I mean LOVE to see multiple NFL-based football games, but sadly that is not the option. And I am not one of those guys who just wants a "non-Madden" game, I just want a great playing game. Madden & NCAA have lacked for me in the gameplay department in the current console generation, but I give it major props for being a beautiful looking game (not so much in motion, though), having great design elements, etc. Head Coach does some things amazingly well, but in the end, I want to play football, not manage teams all day. Blitz had a nice angle, but as stated, it was not SIM but I didn't knock the game for that, it simply was just not my style. With Backbreaker, I'm not sure what I'll get.

Do I want BB to succeed? Hell yes! Competition is a beautiful thing. Competition breeds excellence and we saw perfect examples of this in the 2000-2004 years when 2K & EA were at each others throats with trying to upstage one another. In the end the consumers won because both companies pushed each other to the limits. Since then, can people honestly say Madden has made the strides it should have made without a competitor? I think not.

So Backbreaker won't have any sidelines?

As I stated before and BK alluded to, if a futuristic look is what they're going for then it's strage that they went for big equipment that looks like a body armor. Football gear has been getting consistently smaller, lighter and more flexible over the last few decades.

NFL Europe was part of the NFL license. The league no longer exists so it's a moot point.

11 vs. 11 is good news. Beyond that it's a picture. Nothing more nothing less. I'm excited something new is coming mostly because I would sacrifice real players for better gameplay. But until I play this and Madden, my mind won't be made up.

Good stuff. I hope they have some version of the West Coast Offense.

*Notice how I didn't comment on Madden...*

I'm sure it won't, Madden is looking great so far, which could really make it a tough decision.

.
It been in development for 2+ years. They haven't been working on an 8 month dev cycle like most sports games. So some of the it's their first attempt stuff doesn't count.

To be honest, I just want it to be a fun, believable game of football. If it can do then I will more than be happy.

Give me a fun (even a little arcadey won't bother me) realistic game and it will compliment Madden nicely

I'm excited about seeing some actual substantial footage on this game, if it is impressive it will make things real interesting in this genre

It amazes me how some of the same people that bash Madden for its unrealistic graphics and not having everything you "see on Sunday", are the same people saying this game looks good.

Im willing to bet this game will be just as bad as Blitz: The League. Aside from animations, Ive seen nothing at all to be excited over about this game. Uunlike some people, it takes more that cool looking tackles to get me excited.
Most people who are excited about Backbreaker are excited for its TECH not it's graphics and manusha man.

Backbreaker is an interesting topic here at OS. Since the beginning there have been major bashers and people saying over and over 'don't get excited', 'we haven't seen gameplay'. etc etc.

I'm looking forward to backbreaker. I don't care who doesn't want me to get excited for backbreaker, when the demo drops I'll be really excited to check it out. It will be the only football option i'll have too, so it will be nice to see something different. I've been encouraged by the goals of the development team. If you don't know them, go read them.

the funny thing is all the people bashing the game are very regular posters in this forum. Meaning whether you admit it or not, you're also VERY interested in this game. Otherwise you wouldn't spen so much time posting in here. Many of the comments used to get on my nerves, but now I realize you're bashing the game hoping it's good - convincing yourselves it will suck balls so that if it's a good game you'll be really pleasantly suprised.

OR

You're sadistic and want other people to feel dissapointed for looking forward to something new. all these posters were saying for months and months was "we haven't seen any evidence of 11vs11 football." !!!! NOW YOU HAVE...so if you were convinced there was not, you're now 100% wrong - but instead of aknowledging this in your face fact, people move on to a new bashing topic.

Vaporware? are people still saying that one? No sidelines? Still upset with the player models?

If all these things you don't like, and by the sound of it, many of you like absolutely nothing about the game - going as far to say as it looks terrible - what motivates your relentless presence in the backbreaker forums? Stop trying to ruin other people's anticipation for the game by posting nausiating repetative crap. Harping on and on about 11vs11 - you see it - and you just move on to other crap to diss. Some people here are annoying as hell, to the point it's just funny now (but still annoying).

Ironic. No? Especially since a large portion of the people who complain that this is happenig in the BB forums do exactly that in the Madden and NCAA forums.

I hope it's a great game, but I am still not convinced it's hitting the shelves anytime soon, or ever for that matter. Hopefully it wil and it will be a great title.

Wasn't even close to trolling. Just an observation, that obviously hit close to home.

But continue your crusade.

Where exactly did I troll? I am skeptical that the game will be released. I am concerned about the X's and O's of the football piece of the game. I've said all along I hope it's a great game, but am not convinced.

If not praising all things BB is trolling then so be it. It's funny how a certain few people have become so hyper sensitive to all things BB considering....
