NCAA Football 10 News Post

It’s been crazy busy here at Tiburon trying to finish the game. On top of that I had to travel a few times so I have not been around the boards much lately . Anyway the last few days have been interesting with the game-play talk and I think it’s worth pointing out the list of stuff we’ve already talked about that is in NCAA 10 (well have it all in one post).

This stuff is from blogs on insideblog.easports.com so I’m going to be short on the details:

Pass Blocking
  • Branch Windows
  • Steering and Manipulation
Adaptive AI
  • CPU will adapt to your play calling
Catch Steering
  • Catches near the sideline will try and turn you up field
WR/Defensive Back Interactions
  • Route Running and Man Coverage
  • WR/DB Jostling
  • Press / Release
Layered Blending
  • Throwing when being hit
Inaccurate Passing
  • Passes miss in a more logical direction (not random)
Procedural Awareness
  • Head Tracking
Pursuit Angles
  • Sideline Pursuit
Then there is stuff that has not been blogged about, only talked about on some forum posts...

CPU Passing improved
  • They will throw down field more often
Defensive Line will get up and tip passes
  • And I mean tipped, not just knocked down
Break out of tackles
  • From Madden 09 you can try and break out of tackles after they start
Intercepting Pitches
  • You can actually catch a pitch if you get in-between the QB and the pitch man (instead of it just bouncing off you and hitting the ground)
Two Man Tackles
  • Another one from Madden 09
Non-Catch Catches
  • Players will go for a catch even when they will not catch the ball
Slips on Routes
  • In bad weather players have a chance to slip when running routes
Tons of new animations (examples below):
  • Tackles
  • Over the Shoulder Catches
  • Motion Hand-offs
  • Shotgun Hand-offs
Then we still have some talking to do about the details of Game-Planning, Linked Plays, and Defensive Keys in the next few weeks...

I guess my point is to simply remind everyone that Game-Play is a huge focus for us on NCAA and it is easy to forget all the stuff we've been talking about for months

and you found time for teambuilder and season showdown? wow just wow

Thanks Russ. The list is nice, but the things from Madden 09 just remind me that NCAA is still the red-headed stepchild in some regards.

*Sigh*

NCAA 09 didn't have two man tackling, I never even realized that wasn't in the game. Is getting off a block improved I might just suck but I could not get off a block and make a play or I would get off the block and the runner would just go the other way.

I barely ever see any of those pileups in NCAA, but that's mainly because players aren't as strong while in college. I would though like maybe 3 to 4 man ta tackling. THIS....its a stupid addition to madden, no tackle should ever go over 4, unless its a pile up and even then meh. I mean if 3 guys are holding up a Back and the back is still gaining progress logic says the 4th man is going for the legs. let madden have 9 man tackle and then call it sim lol.

Plus the animation looks like a bunch of ants fighting over a crum.

Yeah we moved the defensive line moves to the Right Stick and revisited how they work. You will try and go left or right off a block with the stick instead of trying to pick Power Move of Finesse move... the game will pick what your player is better at.

I wonder if you will feel the same way when NCAA adds this technology next year...for some reason, I think you will be singing a different tune then .

Thanks for the 'round-up' Russell, I'm looking forward to more news in the coming weeks (particularly 'Game-planning' and 'Defensive Keys').

I wont change my tune if it works the same way next year.

Also whenver Ncaa gets a feature that was in madden the year before ,its usually more polished because the developers fixs the bad parts of said feature. In this case it would be 9 people trying to take down one back without even thinking "hey i can go for his legs"

When they say 9 man tackles, the number includes the ball carrier and can include several offensive players as well, like 2 or 3 guys standing up the ball carrier and a couple of offensive player trying to push him forward. It would indeed be stupid, or at least should be extremely rare, to have 8 defenders tackling a single guy.

You have no idea how often those tackles will occur in Madden or even how they will look in the final product. Ian has said that they are working on increasing the variation in the way pile-ups work and mentioned that they are implementing many more animations for Pro-Tak that would quadruple the number they had already.

Wait until you play the game before critiquing Pro-Tak, and don't act like you wouldn't want it in NCAA this year.

Intercepting pitches. I've wanted this for years.

So you are 12?

btw Boucher i can find more post where you all you do is complain and B***h. I never B***h I just stated facts After 2people engage into a tackle the 3rd person would logically end it by taking out his legs...Hell in the NFL if brandon Jacobs is running the ball they would GO after his legs first 9 outta 10 times.

Are you guys that don't want the 9 man pile ups kidding?

That is in football every weekend! It doesn't always mean 8 vs the ball carrier. It can be up to 8 and any combination of offensive and defensive players. Your players can come and try and push the pile for the carrier too.

Some of you complain about everything.

I am really glad you can break out of tackles in NCAA this year, that sucked not having that in last year. That and gang tackles helps realism.

Nice list.

However, one thing I still see that is omitted and worries me is the lack of mentioning run blocking. Has this been improved, because I felt this was something that needed work on as it was hard running between the tackles as the linemen couldnt clear wholes.

My veiws are based on the sizzle trailer and some ign vids, in the sizzle trailer theres like 5 guys on one back each guy going up high, in optimist football you learn if a man is holding up the defender you help him by taking out the defenders legs.

Again i like what im seeing, keep up the good work.

Ian has stated that in videos they are in debug mode so it forces the pro tak to initiate so I wouldnt look at those trailers as what will be seen in the final product.
