NHL 10 News Post

EA has just posted an NHL 10 Producer blog.

Quote:
"Hey NHL fans. As we are on the heels of the NHL 10 Community Day coming up tomorrow at EA Canada, I had an opportunity to follow Producer David Littman and get the inside scoop on next year's hockey title, NHL 10.

I was even able to get some juicy tidbits for the hockey community to chomp on while getting a brief tour of the NHL development space. We also get a chance to quickly meet some of the other producers who will also be chiming in over the next months on the improvements to the game and the cool stuff coming for next year's title."

That would be glorious. Maybe...just maybe, the new feature is like MLB2k9's real-time stuff. NHL could do it. Have real-time line changes, faceoffs, and celebrations?

Littman said that if you have watched the playoffs this year in regards to passing. The same will be possible in game.

I sure hope the CPU AI will be smart enough to move into open space where they can receive a pass and make the cycling along the boards possible without create a play.

In fact i hope that offensive play will be very fluid and CPU players will move intelligently to be open for passes and shots etc. instead of the static don't move when you are in your set position making it hard to pass to someone to keep the puck in the zone.

I talked with Redshirt at length about the passing system a while back and it certainly sounds like he wants to go for a more "open passing model". I made sure he was aware of a thread that myself and Joborule (I think) had put some good ideas in regarding a more sophisticated system. He said those ideas were in line with what he and others wanted to see implemented and said that he was already experimenting with ways to make it more "open"...

Let's hope they also worked on the goalie AI and not make every goalie play the same. Hope they made the goalies with difference between styles clearly play differently

You'd think with Littman being a former professional goaltender that he'd be all over that aspect of the game...

if done correctly, goalie mode can be one of the most fun features in any sports video game. so far, it has not been done correctly. hopefully this year will be different.

All I want is improved Goalie BAP- and my teammates to not play like idiots. After scoping the blog, I'm excited.

"See some things in the past get added again"

Sounds like playoff mode, and hopefully fantasy draft.

I think the NHL team has done a remarkable job since 07. The series was in the gutter prior to 06 and they turned it into in my opinion the best sports game out right now.

Not many devs listen to the community as well as they do. I haven't seen a studio release as many patches as they have to fix glitches and such.

"No glitch goals" seems like a bit of a stretch but at least they're keeping their eyes open. I appreciate that.

I'm praying that it's out of town scores. My buddies and I used to love watching these between periods. To the point that anyone who touched the controller during intermission was banished from the Genesis for the night.

Or...........ZAMBONI BETWEEN PERIODS.

I've never loved such a small thing about a game so much.

I watched it some time ago but basically passing is not going to be 100% tape-to-tape and it will be more "open". Thanks goodness.

He also commented on better goalies a deeper Dynasty mode and how you'll see the return of some features that were in hockey games in years past but disappeared.

Ah, thanks for the recap. Looking foward to hearing some stuff from community day, although it will still probably be a while before we know solid details.

Lets just hope that that the passing comment is actually true this year. They mentioned this exact statement last year and it never made it into the game. We'll see...

Post whistle scrums aren't a huge deal to me. I really want gameplay that occurs while the puck is moving. I want scrums by the boards (board-play and puck movement along the boards). About 40% of the offensive play in *real* hockey occurs along the boards in the offensive zone, cycling the puck. It's not all crisp passing and open ice in the offensive zone. Fix that, then worry about scrums after the whistle.

looks like we'll have season mode and playoff mode.
i heard littman say in the video that some features that were taken out from older versions of the game are coming back.
