Madden 2010 News Post

The latest Madden NFL 10 blog is online. This week it's all about creating the 'sim-style' gameplay.

Quote:
"From the very beginning of the year, we've tried to make clear our vision for Madden - one of authenticity, realism, & simulation (aka 'sim'). There is no doubt that we all want to turn this game into the most realistic version of Madden in history. This week I wanted to touch on some of the changes we've made (and struggles we've had) while trying to achieve this goal for Madden NFL 10."

Everything looks great. This game just needs better Line interaction and realistic play and the WR and DBs need to play and be animated realisticly and I am pretty much sold.

Awesome work guys! Way to nail the 40 time in your game and slowing down the overall speed for realistic running lanes, cutback lanes, and the feel of a developing pass play. It will be very interesting to see the difference in movement between RB's like Adrian Peterson, Clinton Portis, and Mike turner in the upcoming weeks.

The team is on fire!!!

Tremendous. Just detail to little things like the FB run being an automatic 5+ yards (which i admit i exploited )in 09 being fixed.

Also in awe of this whole update. This game almost looks built from scratch with love. Here's to the (possible) 2k5 killer?

On top of what I said. I know it is early, but I think it would be neat if they showed us 2 plays in the ANT of a run play and pass play with all 22. That way we can actually see how it is all coming together. But i doubt it.

That'd be All Pro

Everything is sounding sick so far in Madden. Thanx again Ian. I'm loving the sim theme this year.

They really are sticking to what they said. Releasing info that casual fans wouldnt notice but hardcore maddenites do

Great job, Ian and crew. You guys are blowing NCAA away with announcements and improvements to your game. A month ago, I never thought I would consider buying Madden instead of NCAA, but now you are really selling me. NCAA has a lot of catching up to do in my eyes.

Nice! Looks like OL/DL interaction would come up near the end or something.

The game is sounding nice! Bring back all the sliders that were in last-gen! And more!

A game speed slider is the only sliders that make any sense in a football game! Being im a NCAA guy 1st then Madden Im trying to find out if it in both?

Pass Speed --
Pass speed was something that was actually quite a bit over the top in previous years...did you know a typical bullet pass exceeded 77 mph in our game?! In Madden NFL 09, not only did every QB throw a similar bullet pass in mph regardless of their rating, but also every QB also threw "mini-punts" instead of touch passes (even on short and intermediate routes) due to the high speed of the ball upon release. Realistically, we can all agree that Brett Favre in his prime probably had the most zip on his passes, and he's been clocked around 65-70 mph (from what I saw on ESPN). So we brought the max mph down to 70 mph (for a 99 Throw Power guy in perfect weather), and also brought the minimum speed down as well so we could scale down the 'curve' of how the ratings affect the pass. Now for Madden NFL 10 you will see much more obvious disparity between throw power ratings, and also you will see much more "touch" on passes on shorter routes instead of record-setting hang time on lobs (see below).

Ian- So are you saying that weather will affect passes in 10? Last time I checked weather has never affected a pass in Madden. That would be nasty stuff if that is the case!

ok I am going from being skeptical to actually starting to root for these guys. Just the stuff they are talking about is showing this isn't just some marketing ploy.

I am even starting to think they may figure out how to get the AI to recognize what a play clock is and how to make it realistic but also give the arcade fans what they need.

I might just have to start wearing my seatbelt so I can up my chances of seeing how this all comes together.

One suggestion I have after reading this update, you are obviously aware of the Fun factor that many of the casuals will be looking for. Make a one button push setting for them that adjusts the sliders to what you guys have determined to be "Casual". Don't make them mess with sliders too much. Call it Madden Classic settings or something.
