NCAA Football 10 News Post

EA has posted another NCAA Football 10 blog. This one covers camera flashes, field goal nets, Windsocks and swappable bowl endzones.

Quote:
"One small detail we added this year is camera flashes going off in the stands. The bigger the game, the more flashes will be going off. This will help give the bigger games that “big game” feel. We were able to borrow this from Madden NFL and are tuning the intensity of these now.

Field goal nets have been missing for too long, so we were sure to bring these to the current gen consoles this year. Nothing too exciting, but it brings a little more realism to the game. Another small detail you’ll notice are the wind socks on top of the goal posts. Want to add a challenge to the kicking game? Don’t look at the meter for the wind factor and use the socks instead."

I think you'll survive if it stays that way, or maybe not?

It's obviously ironic to proclaim "It's in the Details" and then show a field goal net incongruously emblazoned with a bright EA SPORTS logo.

In this circumstance, the particular detail (dictated by a collective effort to ensure accurate representation of college football) should be an empty net.

A prominent video game logo on the net violates the goal of simulation. A detail would be lost, and that's no small loss because..."It's in the Details"

It most certainly is.

So please remove the logo from the net. Putting it on the net is almost tantamount to putting it on the field.

There are appropriate places for the EA logo. The nets and the field are not two of them.

Hey, this is a simple misstep that can be corrected. You guys are doing a great job, but I felt the need to say something. (Forget about the fact that we're talking about field goal nets in 2009. That's already frustrating.)

And the refs? The refs will be in the game.

I think marketing withheld the visual evidence to prevent premature exposure. The refs should quietly slip back in the game. Don't call attention to it, EA. It's been too long without them. Put 'em in, and move on.

That aside, keep up the great work!

"It's in the Details!" I'm with you on that. Obviously. That's why my name is Details.

I like the part were u tell them where they are not allowed to put their logo on their game.

Sounds like yet ANOTHER 60 frames casualty. Surprise, surprise. I'm STILL waiting to see the actual benefit of 60 frames. The gameplay isn't any better, the animations still have tons of issues, the graphics keep taking hits, and we can't get things that would make the game look more real because we don't want to disturb that ever-precious 60 FPS...

I'd snap my keyboard in half if I didn't think I'd break my wrists trying to do it, lol.

I like it too because he's right.

They're getting ridiculous now with with how they place their logo. It was bad enough that we saw it plastered up to 3 times per screen in Madden 09, and even worse when Tom Hammond had to remind us 20 times a game that the game was brought to us by EA Sports. Now this sickness is starting to infect NCAA, lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started putting the EA logo over every helmet decal on every helmet, because after all we easily forget who made the game and we must be reminded over and over again...

I agree. 2K has always been terrible with accessories in their games so that couldn't have made the game great. You must be thinking of All Pro Football with the sideline Interaction, 2K5 didn't have anything like that. Just cutscenes.

Hopefully we get the option to turn the wind arrow completely off. That would be pretty awesome to have to rely completely on the socks.

As a long time NCAA player and a recent detractor and renegade...lol....I am somewhat pleased to see these things beginning to come back.

I did NOT play ONE bowl game on '09 (or '08) mainlyu because of the missing endzone art. It just totally kills the entire atmosphere for me.

I'm still not ready to call it a purchase yet, but this is a huge step towards it. If they fix the AI, or make a great EFFORT towards such, I'm buying no doubt.

Good job OMT & crew

I hope the field (Ohio State pic) is also WIP...the flat surface as a field is unrealistic and has always bothered me.

why do they have to put the ****in EA logo on everything? if i buy an EA game i'm already aware that it's an EA product and since i already paid for it, no need to advertise it really

Wish I could share in your optimism . You could be right though; it doesn't seem farfetched.

Can't wait to see the 2 camera flashes during that Western Kentucky - FIU game.

LOL.

Personally, I wouldn't mind being Brad and having the opportunity to plug EA, and like a professional I would end it with a THANK YOU! each and every time...

So, are we FINALLY getting the ability to choose stadiums back for online games?

I cant believe that feature has been gone for so long.

Many of us play in leagues that need either neutral site playoff games or we have bowl games that we'd LOVE to play in the actual stadiums.

But most importantly, the need for the neutral field so one team doesn't have homefield advantage is crucial.

OMT, in case it helps, here is a shot of Nebraska's end zone art from the Gator Bowl this year.
