I havent seen the leaked video yet but I believe what you say hearing everyone's reaction when they saw the video.

Look I don't want to turn this thread into a system flame war. I was pointing out something I saw which irks the crap out of me. Not sure why people are getting all bent out of shape about it.
For the most part, that is due to the developer, not the hardware. 2K is probably one of the worst when it comes to discrepancies between their offerings across platforms. Other developers do better (Ubisoft), some you can't see a difference at all (Capcom). Anyway, like you said this isn't a thread about hardware, or any other developers for that matter.

I have faith in SCEA, as I know they wont be taking any steps backwards, and if they stayed at 08 levels graphically I would be fine. Screens have never done this game justice, and considering the textures of bushes/vegetation that is in the background was mentioned...that is something that you cannot/will not see in motion. Comparing those "still" textures to last year's screens, I can see improvements; same with the lighting on them.

Nothing wrong with striving for and demanding perfection tho, and I know no one is doing anything just to cause SCEA grief, but to make sure the final product is as perfect as possible.

is this thread about the screenshots anymore?

I am not impressed, but they look as good as last year, which is fine by me.

But don't bash the game over 8 screen shots give me a break.
Sometimes it's not bashing. SCEA possibly considers us their favorite public online community, and the more things we point out (the earlier), the better chance we have things get fixed before release.

Again, it could be nitpicking. Hell, it could be the smallest of things (people always use the "sock color" sarcasm as a reference). But the thing is, if it isn't brought up, it won't ever be addressed, and these small things will be the things to keep this game from perfection.

It may not be a big thing to do (or me, as I hate the Cubs), but as a Giants fan I have always been disappointed that no baseball game in the world has ever gotten right field correct. Behind the high wall isn't just a small strip of walking space... down the line, it is three rows of bleachers, then standing room, then about a 20 foot wide walking space. Below that is a port walk which is about 30 feet wide, then McCovey Cove. All of that, plus the wind knocking the ball down, are huge determining factors in a ball reaching the water. Ask all of the lefties in the home run derby last year about hitting one in the Cove and how easy it was. Not one of them did it all day. Yet, in this game and other games, a home run to right field is almost guaranteed to soar over everything and touch down on the water. I wish they just corrected it so it wasn't so damn easy.

There's a thread in the 2K Baseball sub-forum asking what is the thing one looks for in a baseball game, and here was my reply:

Quote:
I don't really know what the first thing is that I look for, but I'll tell you one thing, and it's that I unfortunately won't give the gameplay a chance if it lacks authenticity. And I don't even mean the beauty of the game... I just mean that they're nailing the MLB aspect of the game correctly. Player looks and stances, stadium features, television-like broadcast and announcing, etc. I don't know why, but I really love to play a game where I'm immersed in its authentic feel.
The "nitpicking" people may respond exactly the same as I did. The people talking about the Cubs logo want to feel like they are the Cubs, at Wrigley Field, hitting with Zambrano (or what have you). That's why we try and get these stadium things addressed as well. I recall somebody asking for a simple rim change in the NBA 2K series a few years back (forgot if it was size or color), and he was thrown around like a rag doll. Why? It should literally take no time for the artists, and once it's corrected, the game is that much more authentic.

It's reasonable for these "complaints" to happen. That's why we spend our time changing attributes, batting stances, walk-up music, and accessories post-release. We want to feel like we are playing exactly what the MLB represents. If you can't accept that, well, I have a feeling that the time you take to defend your side with your posts, they could get the appendage on the Cubs' pants properly sized.

lol...simmer down.

I can understand people saying it's nitpicking looking at backround textures, but a players uniform is important to most of us. It's not like anyone was blasting off on SCEA or anything.

Uniform inaccuracy is a common problem in sports games that would likely never get fixed unless someone points it out. They also pointed out the bill on the helmet was incorrect also. Trust me, if I saw Red Sox pics with incorrect uniforms, I would post that here in a heartbeat, PM all the community leaders, and flood Kolbe with PMs too. I'd want it fixed if I'm looking at it all year.

BTW, you'd probably be better served just putting forth your point in an adult manner yourself, rather than kicking things off with an immediate insult to anyone who didn't praise the pics with undying love. Just a thought

Like it has been said, "not to start a console debate here,"...but here is a comment comparing platforms anyway.

Seriously, this will be the last statement I'll make on the topic:

I would say that games produced primarily for the 360 (larger install base) and either ported to the PS3 or given less production time spent on tuning the assets for the PS3 will look better on the 360.

But, the fact of the matter is that the PS3 is a more powerful computing/graphics platform. If you are a tech guy, just look at the numbers.

I'm not a tech guy, so the numbers don't matter to me. I own both consoles. In terms of visuals, textures, framerate, and overall graphics the 360 always has a slight edge from what I have seen in playing games that come out for both consoles.

But when it comes to The Show, I couldn't care less how the bushes look in the OF. As long as the game plays great and the players, their uniforms, and the fans look good, I'm totally happy.

I had no problems at all with the graphics in '08. And they should be even better this year with another year under their belt and dynamic lighting.

Pitch Grips / Ball Rotation Detail
MLB 09 The Show details the different pitch grips and arm angles that a pitcher has when throwing each pitch. You’ll be able to draw distinction between 17 different pitch types (4 Fastball variations: four-seam, two-seam, cutter, and split; 6 Breaking Pitches: 10-4 curve, 12-6 curve, slider, sinker, slurve, and screwball; 4 Change-Ups: straight, circle, palm and fork; And 3 Specialty Pitches: Knuckle, Knuckle-Curve and Gyro)!
You know what that means right? The balls in play will have stitches and not just be white orbs. That is excellent news.

The catcher’s setup also acts as a guide to your decisions on where to locate a pitch. Are you a Cy Young or a Robin Roberts?

SportsConnect Live GameCast
Using SportsConnect technology, users can view the status of any game in progress in The Show. New for MLB 09, along with a 2D user interface representation, users can hear the play-by-play and color commentary of the announcers.

Make Educated Decisions With The Improved In-Game Pitcher and Batter Analysis
Stats and match-up analysis are a baseball fan’s dream! The Pitch Analysis is a breakdown of all the pitches thrown during the current game being played. You’ll be able sort by pitcher, LHB or RHB, pitch type and result. This is also available for Batters. The batter analysis allows for a breakdown of how each batter has performed based on LHP or RHP, pitch type and the result. The pitcher and batter analysis is available for both in-game and post-game. The analysis will appear in the batter / pitcher status screen and the post game pause menu. This information is available for every game played, as well as your Road to the Show career.

Track Batters Throughout The Season With New Progressive Batting Performance
Superior performance will earn you rewards and slumps, but will require a little extra effort. Specific to each batter, you’ll be rewarded with slight contact bonuses for each batter who performs beyond his statistical ability under your control. Conversely, if your performance takes a dip, you’ll see slight decreases in contact for each batter that performs below that statistical ability. Performances will be based roughly on each batter’s last 20-30 ABs (w/ recent ABs weighted heavier).

SportsConnect Online User Tracking (SCOUT) Makes Online Matchups Easy
If you’ve ever had a difficult time finding someone online with the same gameplay setting as yours, the SCOUT system is for you. SCOUT allows you to set your game preferences, store them on the server and look for a Quick Match with an opponent that fits your criteria.

Adaptive Pitching Intelligence (API) really puts you on the bump. MLB 09 The Show is the only baseball game to ever give you the choice to trust your catcher or shake him off. With API, catchers will call the game for you based on the strengths and weakness of each pitcher. And beyond that, catchers will also analyze tendencies of the batters to know if a batter is susceptible to chasing a high heater out of the zone or off-speed low and away.

Pitch Command System (PCS) delivers unsurpassed authenticity and strategy to pitch selection in a baseball videogame. A pitcher’s “pitch comfort” will be predetermined based on a best pitch to worst pitch scenario. Now it’s up to you to decide if you should try to “work on a pitch” or just go with what is working. The more you work on one pitch, the better it becomes. Conversely the more you neglect a pitch; the more challenging it becomes to work the zone.

Online League Play
Providing you with the ability to set up leagues with up to 30 teams offering full stat tracking, point benefits and rewards. Customize as you see fit; choose your players, teams, length, rules and much more. Whether it’s you and a couple buddies or 29 of your closest friends, bragging rights are on the line.

Umpire Personalities
This year umpires will have unique tendencies and animations. But most importantly, each umpire will have his own definition of the strike zone. It’s up to you to figure out if they’re calling the zone high, low or giving you the corners. The quicker you figure it out, the more successful you’ll be.

Multi-Branch Fielding takes Branch Point Technology to a new level. Now you can take full control of fielders and break out of any animation in the process. Change your fielding decision and branch out of any animation after the first branch point. With Branch Point Technology you’ll pull off unbelievably smooth, fluid transitions for seamless double plays and relays.

3-Man Booth with Rex Hudler bringing additional energy to tell it like it is. Hudler joins Matt Vasgersian and Dave Campbell for the most comprehensive commentary you’ve heard in any baseball game. MLB 09 The Show sets the bar high with progressive commentary that changes you progress through the game, adapting to current actions and situations.

User Controlled Slides let you control base runners down to the last detail. Split-second decisions are the difference between a win and a loss so as you round the bases, you decide when it’s time to get dirty.

Rivalry Mode allows you to set up and maintain multi-game rivalries between multiple gamers or versus the CPU. Follow everything from wins to Ks and see who has the winning edge every time you challenge your rival. Whether you play offline or online, you’ll be able to keep track of all your rivalry stats and bragging rights.

Game Time Decisions bring more depth to Franchise and Season Modes. Only MLB 09 The Show provides the ability to take full control of your team when you’re forced to make the tough decisions. An injured player on the roster or a pitcher who needs more rest – the decision to play them is yours. If you ever thought you could be a big league manager this is the year to test your skills.
