ESPN Videogames have posted their exclusive first look at MLB '09: The Show, including some new screenshots.

"Think A-Rod chokes in the clutch? Ever shout "Dodgers suck!" or yell "Drewwwwwww" when J.D. walks up to the plate? MLB 09 is about to bring out the crazed fan in all of us as not only can you record your voice screaming anything from "Where's Madonna?" to "we want a pitcher not a belly itcher" and put it in the game thanks to peripherals like the Rock Band mic and wireless headset, the fan yells will sound like your voice actually coming from the stands. You can even assign the recordings to be part of a chant and your voice will be put through a new process so that it sounds more like a crowd chanting "over-rated" and not just a single person yelling."

Haha I'm not quite sure they'd put that on the back of the box:

"Sliders that now work!"

nah, just wish someone from SCEA could say something confirming they worked on this...

This alone was my biggest problem with the game! I would turn down the foul tip slider(eventually all the way down) to try and add a more realistic amount of strikeouts but it made absolutly no difference. I also also handycaped the sliders in the CPU's favour tring to make pitching and hitting harder but got nothing! My team batting average is 299 with the contact and timing window sliders all the way down. Clearly they dont work at all so the sliders are a big deal for me in 09!

Slightly not pertaining to your question, but that was one thing about MLB '08 where I thought that maybe it wasn't the best this series can be (to everyone that was saying it's phenomenal, etc). I mean, aside from the visuals (and online play), IMO I saw both versions to be nearly identical. That's saying a lot for SCEA's push to make such a quality PS2 game, but I really want to see what they can do to differentiate themselves from that title and really make this a true PS3 game without looking at the PS2 game and even finding one bit of similarity whilst comparing the two.

However, I have a feeling that, perhaps aside from the new franchise stuff, the PS2 version may still be rather caught up. I really don't know, though. This has to be around the time where they are either deciding to give it another year and for the most part just update rosters while their entire devotion goes to the PS3 version, or where they stop making them for PS2 altogether. I have a feeling though that the game still sells like hotcakes, especially with no other real competition around March.

Yes. Brian spent quite a bit of time on a major slider overhaul - Should see better results. I'm sure he'll be in when we get more time towards the end of the project (or after we ship) to go into more detail.

1) If I don't see the post I don't respond (I haven't read this whole thread... I simply don't have the time)

2) If I see them and I can answer them, I typically do. (Given I have the time)

3) Not to harp on you (plenty of others do this) but posts asking me to answer their questions from somewhere else (meaning I need to go look for it) or asking about "the XXX glitch" dont get answered either. Explain it again, ask them again, or tell me how the bug works again. I deal with literally thousands of bugs (maybe even into the tens-of-thousands) in a few short months - there's no way I will know which one is being referred to.

On a semi-related note, when anyone sends me a PM asking "is the roster glitch fixed" the reason I don't respond is that I have no idea which one it is! PLEASE explain things like this - you'll save me tons of time, and in doing so get an answer!

Hope this clears up questions and concerns you guys may have!

-Kolbe

P.S. Please don't take this post personally RAZR - it's more that I'm seeing posts like yours more and more - and it frustrates me that I don't know what question you had. I just figured I'd finally break it down.

Kolbe, at some point will you setup a Q&A session much like last year, where its a dedicated thread?

Thanks for all that you do.

Now that the fact sheet has been released, I was wondering when this was going to happen as well.

Sorry. I was just asking here because I sent you a pm and no reply. It was about a couple features for 09 and a question about a new feature that I've talked about when the suggestions period happened and talked to Ramone about (he said he would get it to you and I haven't really heard anything yet) and pmed you and Chris about that I haven't gotten any answer yet. I just want to know if a feature is possible. I'll re send it to you. Thanks for your time and the wonder that is 08 The Show. 09 should be awesome

# 272 Alonzo @ 12/22/08 10:56 PM
it's true, it's damn true.

If ALL sliders really work, that "feature" alone is almost worth the money.

I really really think SCEA is very close of developing the best sports/baseball game ever! The release date (or the date the game is spinning in my PS3) of the show 09 will be my new birtday and christmas combined.

they will never stop making the ps2 version...just cuz 75% of the people on here have a ps3 doesnt mean that not many people at all have ps2s...plus they are still making money off that...and i really hope they keep the ps2 version close to the ps3....why not have the same features...i mean the graphics are the only difference you need...plus last year with accesories...ps3 was granted a bigger selection like sleeves and armbands...but unless your gonna send me $400 to get a ps3 haha...they gotta keep making the ps2 version

# 274 Scooter3 @ 12/23/08 01:38 AM
Good news! I'll be turning down the foul tip slider.

This game is so good it makes me think too much about March being so far away!
Can't wait until we are down to weeks instead of months...

Choice of uniforms, walk-up music slot where we can put either music or legendary players names. Wow!

Kolbe I would like to know if the "Face Tool" will make it in our 09' game.
I sure hope so, forget the eye-toy this face tool is fantastic! You guys are the best!

Thanks!
I love this game...

Scooter...

The game seems absolutely crazy good; only thing I hope is that the fielding is improved enough where a ball actually goes over an outfielder's head w/o being a HR...I'd like to see doubles being hit without having to place it in the gaps

That's exactly what I'm saying. Make the PS2 version the best that it can possibly be, but once it reaches that point, take advantage of the PS3 and do the same with that game. Take it up to its limit, something that the PS2 obviously could not match. And I don't just mean visually. There are many other things that could be done by the PS3's power, as well as 50 gigabytes of memory, where they can do more than just a visual upgrade.

Of course, that's not to say that is all they are doing, but as far as cross-gen games go, I've seen the limit taken much further. I know what they can do, and this day-night progression is a start. I can't wait for this year's release, but I especially can't wait for The Show 2010!

Have the AI lineup creation and FA signing in franchise been improved?

Thanks.

I understand backing up the play on a base hit to right with a runner on first (or fly ball to right with a runner on second), but never actually covering the bag. Not only that, but it looks to be the first baseman in that shot since there is no one else at first and he is making an offline throw (which I think is incredible to see after a few too many perfect throws last year). So the play is coming from that side of the field, which seems appropriate enough... but I don't see this as a cut-off play unless it was originally to home, in which the pitcher should be backing up home. I'm just trying to think of what scenario this would be.

Does anyone know exactly what kind of situation would warrant this? Just curious.
I know this is an extremely late response, but in the picture, there must have been a hit to left field with someone running from second to home. In that case, the 3rd baseman (Evan Longoria in this picture) covers the throw from left field, and it is the pitcher's responsibility to cover third. Longoria clearly cut off the throw and tried to cut down Victorino at third.
