NCAA March Madness 09 News Post

I have been a College Hoops 2K fan since the inception of the series back on my PS2. As a huge fan of college basketball, I always loved how 2K was able to get the little things about the game right. I loved how they would include all the teams, all the fight songs, all the mascots, all the arenas, all the jerseys, and it didn't hurt that the game always played great.

As the years progressed, the 2K engine started showing its age, and I became increasingly bored with the series up until College Hoops 2K8 was released last November. 2K8 was the pinnacle of college hoops gaming -- from the outstanding pregame analysis, to the weekly wrap up shows, to the incredibly deep gameplay mechanics, CH 2K8 was a college basketball fan's dream come true. Needless to say, I was crushed earlier this year when I heard that 2K would no longer be continuing the franchise that had left me wanting more after the release of 2K8.

How has this adolescent boy not been banned yet?

As easily as "feel" that this game is a great representation of college hoops, I respectfully disagreed. I felt that this article pointed out what you "felt" made this a great game. I said I wasn't impressed with the demo. Your review is a heck of a lot more glowing than what I came away from trying the demo. The controls are clunky, the atmosphere is average at best. I agree that the playcalling is awesome, but that doesn't make a college basketball game. You agree that the game is 2-3 years behind where it should be and you give it kudos for that? I think the review is a bit too glossy, period.

Before its said, no, I haven't bought a Madden since the exclusive. I haven't bought a MLB 2k game since the exclusive. I bought NBA 2k8 and FiFa 08. I pay for good games, not so-so games. This college game is not good, its just so-so.

Good review, though. I just don't see what you see however.

I like the review, but I have a few things to say.

The gameplay, isn't that great. There's a few glitches here and there, my main one, is passing.

When I use the direct passing, and I want to go right up and shoot it, it seems that it will pass to circle or square every time. I have to wait a second for the direct passing to ware off then I shoot. I've lost two late games because of it. I had a wide open player out for a three, down by two, so I hit R1, then square, and when I hit circle to shoot, he attempts a cross court pass to my SG, but when it gets there, time runs out and I lose. I mean, come on.

I haven't had this happen yet. Not to sound like a smartass or anything, but are you letting go of the R1 button?

I run a lot of motion offense where players come off screens and I use the direct passing and have no issues getting the shot off quickly. Maybe I am missing something or misunderstanding your issue.

Yeah I am letting go.

I just played a game, and it happened twice. Both on fast breaks, I kicked it out to my SF for the 3 and he passed it to the SG, blowing the score both times.

I made sure I let go of R1 both times, and it still happened.

Maybe it's my controller, or it's something with PS3, idk. I might try and just use regular passing when I'm in that situation...

Would you rather the reviewer write about how someone else "felt" about the game?

He posted a review. I disagree with it. What's the problem?

considering where the game has been, I'd say its a good game from that standpoint. Is it better than 2k8? Thats for each individual gamer to decide. Is it perfect? Absolutely not, but its a good game that finally, finally, has a foundation to build upon.

Agree CB. I don't know why we have to keep defending it. If you don't agree with the second opinion blog article, fine. That's understandable. But, why keep ripping on the game. What good does that do? I really think it's time for 2K only fans to move on. The point has been soundly made.

So only pro-blog opinions allowed here?

You don't have to keep defending it, you just choose to do so. With the exception of a few ridiculous children who were obviously trolling, the dissenters have just offered their opinions with the same level of enthusiasm as the supporters of this game. I don't think someone who has serious issues with the game automatically deserves the moniker "2K only fans"

So do you want a couple of posts representing those who have issues with the game, and the others who share that opinion should stay silent and let the rest of the thread be filled with shouts of "Hear, Hear"?

Regardless of how and why it happened, since they are the only game in town the scrutiny is going to be intense and relentless.

People aren't going to move along less than a week after the game has been released.

According to the EA website, looks like Operation Sports.com has chosen this game for Comeback Game of the Year already.

Not everyone who doesn't like the game is a "2k only fan". Some people just don't see the point in doing handstands for a mediocre game.

I hear you guys. I kind of wish I could go back and reword what I said. Those of you who aren't as impressed with the game as some of us are in fact making well thought out and reasonable statements. It's the ones who for whatever reason decide to just trash on the game without any real reason why.

I don't think anyone is doing handstands because its mediocre game. I think they are doing handstands because a series that was once dead has come back to life. Its all in how you look at it.

But I think this series is still far away from receiving that comeback status.
I think this is a fair assessment. Given where they were a year ago though... at least the game is enjoyable.

I loved 2k7 like 4 person 100 hour dynasty loved. Anyway I bought this game for my brother for christmas and we stepped into it. I knew it was different and I was steph curry. We started to battle and it was 51-50 with about 3 minutes to go. Then it froze. Haven't played since. If we had finished that epic first battle, who knows how many more we could have had? Hoop games are the only sport we are equal in and it stinks that it froze up.

he still plays but im going back to 2k7.
