Madden 09 News Post

Madden Planet has the scoop.

Quote:
"Update #3? At this point, we are not planning to release another update. We will continue to listen to our fans and if any other widespread issues come up we may change this plan but the fixes made in update #2 solved all of the major problems people were experiencing with the game. Those that continued to have problems had success after completely wiping their old Madden data from their hard drive.

DLC? Shortly before the release of Madden NFL 09, we had mentioned that we were looking into the possibility of releasing some post-launch DLC. At this point, DLC isn’t in the cards. Providing DLC is something that will stay on our radar down the road and is certainly something we’d love to provide to our most passionate fans, however at this stage we are no longer actively looking into this for 09."

The Wii version is actually better than the 360/PS3 versions have ever been, but whatever.

I wasn't talking about failure in terms of it being good or not. I was speaking to sales numbers.

But in my opinion, Madden on Wii is too silly. I need a serious football game. I don't want Madden on 360 to turn into that kind of game. And from EA's standpoint being of the bottom line, since the Wii version is continuing to fail in the market, it wouldn't be wise to try and bring any of that to 360/PS3 anyway.

Yep Watcher...it'll be interesting to see what the future holds for the Madden game.

I kind of wonder if Ian's vision is in conflict with Peter Moore's? I'm hoping a balance can be struck....in our favor.

Madden 2005 was a very good game, but it's gone downhill since. Why is that?

Don't get me started on next gen. NCAA was outstanding this year after the patch. Why can't Madden be? I remember the days of Madden usually being the better of the two games.

I don't want to flame, but this is pretty silly.

I wasn't suggesting you did. I think we're on the same page:

Consumers' expectations must be managed. However, as consumers, we should be able to expect the basics in our video games, and right now, we're not getting those basics.

I really don't think waiting until 2010 is a big deal. As I mentioned a few pages back, it took them 4 iterations on the previous generation to finally get a masterpiece (i.e. Madden 2004). This next edition marks the 4th shot of Madden on the new gen. We'll have to see,

Two problems, however:
1. The early versions of Madden on the PS2 (Madden 2001-2003) were nowhere as bad, IMO, as these early versions are relative to the new technology.
2. There is no competition now, like there was back then.

we are definitely on the same page in that regard.

Come on Spank--you know the answer to this.

I'm sorry to say, but anyone who actually thinks Madden is going to significantly change (for the better) anytime soon-- is a fool. Sorry to sound so harsh, but that’s the reality of the situation.

Actually, 2010 will mark software gen 5 (06, 07, 08, 09, 2010)

To me the bigger question marks come when you consider that they've been developing Madden on 360 since 2004. The game hasn't gone up leaps and bounds even though they've been developing it for this long, and this year's game is only considered acceptable by consensus but that's about it. I know that people tend to focus on the demands of one dev cycle, but never consider that this game has been in development for 4+ years and yet still has a number of the same problems it had when it first started. Sure, one cycle is not much time, but 4 certainly is.

The first 3 years 06 through 08 were just killed by really bad decisions and a misguided vision of what a football game should be. The decision for TV presentation to be ignored which happened in 06 07 and 08, will certainly go down in history as one of the EA's worst decisions. I'll always wonder how something so misguided could've been okayed. What were they thinking?

I want to make one last point. While I'll agree that in some gens the 4th installment has usually showed the turning point whether it be from EA or 2K, there have been gens where football games were good (and some great) day one. I look at the first Tecmo Bowl. I look at the first NFL 2K. I look at the first Madden on PS1. The first NFL Gameday on PS1. The one thing you notice about all of those games is that they seemed to be guided by a really strong vision that made sense for its time. A lot of what they've done with Madden in this era have been the complete opposite.

NCAA is just a more arcadey version of Madden. It gets a pass because NCAA football has higher scores than the NFL but it's not an outstanding game.

Didn't care anyways

I can't believe ANY of you actually believed they would do something like this for you lmao

Your lucky to get 2 patches! EA has completely lost all respect from me and many of the people I know that play the game.

It's time to take out the garbage

Bingo, you nailed it on the head.

Having been on the marketing end of a software company in my past, I hate to say it but no matter how much work Ian wants to put into the game to make it GOOD, the suits that are in charge will pull rank and push him to make the game they (the suits) think will SELL.

And sadly, "features" like Backtrack, Madden IQ or maybe next year some nosense like an Add Bling to Your Player "feature" sells to the masses, not real football, good AI and great immersion.

# 236 jmood88 @ 10/27/08 02:20 PM
It also sells to the "hardcore" judging by how so many people on here by the game every year. I just makes no sense to me. Just wait, next year everyone will be talking about how Madden is back just like they did this year, last year etc.

I think it's because people love football (specifically the NFL) so much, they have a great desire to play the video game version of the sport. A lot of people buy it and put up with the flaws simply because it's better than nothing and there is no alternative right now.

I love football as much as anyone but I'm not going to waste money on a game from a company that continually puts out a substandard product and then complain about how they trick me every year. At some point it's their own fault that they keep buying into the hype.

# 240 ELDoro @ 11/01/08 02:04 PM
I think I'm done with EA over all sports. Only game I like is NCAA Football. I liked Madden for online play but over time it didnt even feel like football.....more like who knew "Madden" ball. March Madness is horrible ...and no more College Hoops 2k....looks like I might have to pick up a ps3 and play the best sports game around. MLB The Show
