NBA 2K9 Preview (ESPN Videogames)

ESPN has posted their preview of NBA 2K9.

	"Oh yeah, did I mention the game? Last year, gamers complained about 2K8 being a tad slower than 2K7, so the developers pushed the speed back to 2K7 levels while at the same time adding even more authenticity to the way the players on the court move and react. In previous iterations of the series, there seemed to be a lot of standing around on offense due to the fact that when the user controlled the ball and didn't run the team's play correctly, the game always defaulted to running a quick isolation for the man dribbling. It was basically a robotic response to user stupidity. But these days, even if the gamer doesn't know how to run plays, the CPU teammates finally react intelligently, helping set screens (players like Rasheed will pick and pop), sending the right guy to the post, and running shooters like Ray Allen around picks, giving the game a much more organic feel as the action on the court is no longer scripted."

When does Kobe ever do that? I can see some other guys... Kmart, KG, even Steve Francis HEH!, but anyhow I just hope that everyone including scrubs dont all do the same thing.

I like that they are going to have some new statistics with efficiency and True Shooting % etc being added... I wonder if during your association they'll finally integrate your seasonal statistics into the gameplay. That'd be awesome!

Great preview adressed some of my concerns.

Only thing i dont know about is draft classes. Import from college hoops 2k8 and/or uploaded to 2kshare, maybe they just gonna let us edit incoming draft prospects and classes because there is no college hoops title?

The reason am so concerned about that one feature is because one thing i have always wanted to do in a sports game is go back in time.

Do a franchise that starts in the early 90s, so i can play with all my child hood heroes. Do it the year before Jordan first retired and just play through as normal (you could choose to edit in expansion teams like the Bobcats as time goes on or just keep it the way it is and pretend the Hornets stayed in Charlotte. You would also have to put the Sonics back in) and let it run as a what if scenario. Will Jordan win 7 or 8 championships after deciding not to retire or maybe the Rockets will still be able to take home one despite Jordans presence. Maybe Barkely stays in Philadelphia and plays along side a young AI. Shaq doesnt go to LA.

You could bring in all the draft classes every year too (AI, Ray Allen as rookies, etc.).

Will this be possible this year?

All you would need is ability to edit players, teams, and draft classes i think.

Maybe Simballer could let me know.

Melo always says "OHH ****" whenever he goes to the hoop. Probably not getting into the game, but he does that constantly. I'm sure the networks hate him. Camby did that also, but not quite as regularly.

Heh as long as they don't have the horrible mixed-up voices like the post-game interviews on NFL 2K5 where Peyton Manning would talk like Ray Lewis... those were hilarious though.

this is the year they really have to get new drafted players faces, personalities, accersories, play styles all uniquely represented so we are presented with a new REALITY. A reality that is so diverse and unique, we won't even need to question the need for real names.

throw in a need for truely dynamic playbooks and this could be a great game. If im orlando and in year 2 i decide to draft a SG who becomes the next kobe.... why is my playbook still filled with PF dwight howard driven plays? either give me an option to change to another team or dynamicly change, like live
