Pasta Padre has posted part one of his hands-on impressions of NCAA Football 09.

Quote:
"At first it took a little while to get acclimated to the player weight, momentum, and foot planting. Movement looks and feels much more natural but at first felt a little heavy. After a few minutes playing though it really began to feel like it was just right. User control is big especially in the running game or in the run after the catch. Elusiveness and acceleration attributes are huge. You can really see the burst and taking bad angles as a defender is punished severely."

Sliders didn't help **** last year....or ANY EA football year when it came to picks . The pick 6 is a staple of both Madden and NCAA. Until I see an INT slider at 0 that means NO picks, I mean every DB with hands dipped in motor oil, then I won't believe it.

I'm a dummy who will by this game every year sight unseen because I love college football, yet I'm not the same with Madden. But we could sticky this thread and come back in August and we'll all be going...."Yep, same old crap".

As we all know sliders in EA football titles have a storied history of not doing what they are supposed to do. They have had sliders in their football games for years, that when adjusted do absolutely nothing to the actual gameplay.

I'm very skeptical about relying on sliders to fix ANY of the issues with their games because of the history of them releasing these games with all these slider options that do not work.

It's very frustrating knowing that most of the issues that are in Madden AND NCAA are hard coded into the gameplay engine and cannot be resolved with slider tweaks.

Sliders don't help us online guys. Looks like more nano blitzing to slow down offenses.

I usually agree with your point of view, but after so many versions of the game, and so many gameplay previews and then releases, at what point do you actually tell yourself to ignore the red flags?

I'd agree with the sliders - I'm a big fan of sliders, but again - the sliders didn't work last year.

I guess my definition of red flags is different than most. A red flag for me is when I heard APF or NBA Live 08 didnt have a franchise mode. Those are features that are most haves for me and would make me decide not to buy a game. But here we have three guys who played a handful of games and gave impressions. They didnt tweak sliders and were given a limited time with a beta version of the game. Ive just learned to never judge gameplay of any game based on limited impressions. I remember I got to play MLB 2k6 weeks before release and from those 50 min i thought the game was great. When I bought it and actually spent time with the game then I realized it sucked.

I'm not saying that these things wont be issues. I'm just saying lets wait a while before dumping on the game.

There's a big difference between thinking a game is great with the first impression and thinking a game stinks. If you think the game is great, you may find some things later on, but if you are already finding flaws in the first few games, chances are its just going to go downhill from there.

Give me 2 hours with any sports game, and I will be able to tell you what 99% of its on the field gameplay issues are. It would take a little longer to discover dynasty flaws.

Bottom line, I'll wait until the well-respected members of this board spend their hard earned cash on it and give me a review. Luckily for me, the people around here have no will power.

You'll have to wait a while to weed out all the nostalgia/this is the greatest game ever. Id say, drop $5 and rent it.

Maybe the solution for EA is to make whatever game they want on default but spend some time creating a useful and robust set of sliders for people like us.

I'm sorry, but that is one of the funniest damn things I've read in a while!!

Fix turnover issue, improve CPU AI, better OL/DL interaction...instead we mascot games, gimmick K/QB games, and excessive cheerleader cutscenes! I understand that sim-style gamers are not in the majority when it comes to EA's target audience, but for the love of god fix AT LEAST one of those gameplay problems!

What good will sliders do for us online people? Nothing. I must say I'm so disappointed I'm considering not even buying the game right on day one. Maybe I'll just play GTA IV all summer.

There are just so many good non-sports games coming out. It makes it easier if my favorite sports franchise doesn't get it done again this year.

We'll see. Unfortuantely if the CPU AI is broken, it looks like it may hurt online play again this year - especially if it is loaded with offense.

Online dynasty could be spectacular - I have that sneaking suspicion - if AI & gameplay aren't great on the field (but still playable like '08) I may do a coach/AD dynasty online where you sim the games and recruit.

how far ea has fallen since i gave you an early copy of ncaa 04 or 05 back in the day. i remember both of us being so pumped up and genuinely excited that day. and now look at us. like disgruntled old men with the only real excitment coming more from a curiosity as to the game and what we're going to hate about it.

The series has just stagnated on next gen hardware. They haven't made any improvements to the engine - 8 years is a long time to have the same basic gameplay. Last gen the game had its own identity and was the better series vs Madden. But, lately the improvements they have made have skewed the game to playing like a college version of Madden with college features - of which many are missing that should already be in.

NCAA was a revolutionary football franchise on PS2 for me. Next gen they're fighting to get the gameplay back (or MAddenize it - can't figure out which) and have lost many of the staple features that made PS2 NCAA (minus 05 of course) such a great (gameplay, pageantry, presentation and online) EA franchise.
