LIONS HAND STAFFORD, RAMS FIRST LOSS OF SEASON
When the season began, the week 7 matchup between the Los Angeles Rams and the Detroit Lions was earmarked, because of the trade that sent QB Matthew Stafford from Detroit, to Los Angeles, in exchange for Jared Goff, and draft picks. The Rams were expected to be pretty good. The Lions were not. Yet, entering the game, both teams were 7-0. Lions first year head coach Dan Campbell has his Lions playing really well on both sides of the ball. But, he still called this a statement game. "This is our chance to make a statement. Get a statement win over a really good team. Show everyone that we're not a fluke, we belong" he said.
Make a statement is just what the Lions did. The Lions came from behind to hand the Rams their first defeat, 28-24. The Rams led at halftime, and then again heading into the 4th quarter. Both times the Lions came back, taking the lead for good with 6:16 left in the game. And then their defense held on for the victory.
The Lions opened the scoring at 3:06 of the first, on an 11 yard touchdown run by Jamaal Williams. Following a Jared Goff interception, the Rams tied the game on Matthew Stafford's 42 yard pass to Robert Brooks early in the second quarter. The Lions would retake the lead on a 1 yard Goff to T.J. Hockenson TD pass, putting the Lions up 14-7. But the Rams came back with a pair of late TD's. Stafford and Brooks hooked up for the second time, this one from 4 yards out, with 1:55 left in the first half, to tie the game. Stafford then found Tyler Higbee from 13 yards out, with just 10 seconds left in the first half, to put the Rams up 21-14.
Detroit tied the game in the third, on a D'Andre Swift 1 yard touchdown run with 4:22 left. Los Angeles would go back out in front 24-21 on a Michael Gay 40 yard field goal with 8:59 let in the game. But, the Lions would come back, on Jamaal Williams second touchdown run of the game, this one from a yard out, putting them back on top 28-24 with 6:16 left in the game.
Then the game got real interesting.
The Lions Tracy Walker picked Stafford off with 4:55 left. But the Rams picked the ball off right back, and drove down to the goal line. But, the Lions stopped them when Sony Michel was stuffed by Alex Anzalone on 4th and goal from the 1. Detroit got the ball back, 2:31 left in the game. But, they couldn't get a first down to ice it, and had to punt the ball back to the Rams.
The Rams drove the ball down to the Lions 18. But, on 4th and inches, with just 13 seconds left, and no time outs, Stafford threw a pass that went out of the back of the end zone. The Lions had held off the Rams for a 28-24 win.
With the win, the Lions improve to 7-0. They return home next week, to face the 2-5 Philadelphia Eagles.

LIONS INTERCEPT BURROW 5 TIMES IN BLOWOUT OF BENGALS
The Detroit Lions picked off Bengals QB Joe Burrow five times, en route to a 44-20 blowout win at Ford Field. Jared Goff threw for 263 yards and three touchdowns. D'Andre Swift rushed for 118 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Jamie Collins, Jeff Okudah, Will Harris, Amani Oruwariye, and C.J. Moore had interceptions. Joe Burrow threw for 317 yards in the loss.
The game was close the entire first half. The Lions opened the scoring with a 3 yard TD run by Swift. After a Bengals field goal cut it to a 7-3 lead, Goff found tight end T.J. Hockenson from 17 yards out to put the Lions up 14-3. Burrow would find Uzomah from 27 yards out, to cut it to a 4 point Lions lead. The Bengals then got a field goal with 44 seconds left, making it 14-13 Detroit.
The Bengals looked poised to take the lead, when Jared Goff fumbled the ball away inside the Lions 20. But, Burrow's pass to the end zone was picked off by Jeff Okudah, and returned to mid field. Detroit would end up getting a 47 yard field goal by Austin Seibert, to make it 17-13 Lions at halftime.
The Lions broke the game wide open in the third quarter, scoring 21 straight points. D'Andre Swift scored on a 77 yard run. Then Hockenson scored his second touchdown of the game, on a 6 yard pass from Goff. With 2:28 left in the quarter, Goff would find Tyrell Williams from 13 yards out, and the Lions led 38-13 after 3.
The Lions sandwiched a pair of Seibert field goals around a Joe Mixon touchdown run in the 4th, to provide the final score of 44-20. With the win, the Lions improve to 6-0 on the season.
The win sets up a huge showdown next Sunday in Los Angeles, against former Lion Matthew Stafford, and the LA Rams. Stafford, who was traded during the off season to LA, is having a huge year, throwing for 1700 yards, and 18 touchdowns through six games, leading the Rams to a 6-0 record.

RUNNING GAME, TURNORVERS LEAD LIONS OVER RAVENS 27-24
The Detroit Lions rushed for 221 yards, and the defense forced three Lamar Jackson interceptions, en route to a 27-24 victory over the Baltimore Ravens. The Lions improve to 3-0 with the win. The Ravens fell to 1-2.
Baltimore outgained the Lions 456 to 377, but the three interceptions, one in the end zone, were devastating. Baltimore couldn't get the run game going at all. The Lions made a clear effort to eliminate the running of Jackson, and held him to just 2 rushing yards, and the Ravens to just 59 total yards on the ground. Tracy Walker, Amani Oruwariye, and Will Harris had interceptions, with Harris' coming in the end zone.
The Lions rushing attack was outstanding all game long. D'Andre Swift rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown on just 13 carries. Jamaal Williams added 99 yards and a score on 18 carries. Swift and Williams have provided a great 1-2 punch all season long. Jared Goff was steady at QB, completing 16 of 21 for 204 yards and a touchdown. He also didn't force any throws down field, taking 5 sacks, when no one was open. T.J. Hockenson had 8 catches for 132 yards. Most of his catches came on 3rd down.
The Lions opened the scoring at 8:09 of the first, on a 25 yard pass from Goff to Hockinson. The Ravens and Lions would trade field goals, before Raven's tight end Mark Andrews caught the first of two second quarter TD passes, to tie the game at 10. Jamaal Williams scored on a 2 yard run with just 34 seconds left in the half, putting the Lions up 17-10. But the Ravens came right back, and scored on a 17 yard Jackson to Andrews strike with just 9 seconds left in the half.
D'Andre Swift scored on a 2 yard run at 8:12 of the third quarter. Austin Seibert added a 49 yard field goal with 6:04 left in the game, to put the Lions up 27-17. Gus Edwards scored on a 10 yard run with 2:28 left, cutting the Lions lead to 3, 27-24. But that would be as close as the Ravens would get. They were unable to stop Detroit, and the Lions ran the clock out for the victory.
The Lions will travel to Chicago next Sunday, to take on the 1-2 Chicago Bears. The Bears are coming off of a hard fought 28-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns. In that game, rookie Justin Fields threw for 240 yards and 2 TD, with one interception. But, the Bears couldn't get anything going rushing the football. Look for them to try to establish the run against the Lions, to take pressure off of their rookie QB.
