LIONS BEAT EAGLES 33-30 TO IMPROVE TO 8-0
The Detroit Lions again blew a 4th quarter lead, but found a way to beat the Philadelphia Eagles 33-30 at Sunday at Ford Field. Jared Goff threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns, but his two interceptions nearly doomed the Lions. Jamaal Williams added 89 yards on 18 carries, and scored once. Tyrell Williams caught 12 passes for 146 yards, and tow touchdowns. Jalen Hurts threw three touchdowns in the loss.
The Lions jumped out to a 13-0 lead. Austin Seibert had a pair of field goals, and Tyrell Williams caught an 11 yard pass from Goff with 4:25 left in the first half. The Eagles got to within a score at 13-7, on a 3 yard Hurts to Dallas Goedert pass.
Tyrell Williams second TD of the game, this one from 14 yards out, put the Lions up 19-7. That's how the third quarter ended.
Goff was picked off late in the third quarter, which set up Miles Sanders' 10 yard TD run, to cut the lead to 19-14 at 11:56. On the ensuing drive, Goff was picked off again. The Eagles would take a 22-19 lead on Goedert's second touchdown of the game, from 5 yards out.
But, the Lions weren't done. Goff drove them down the field, and found Quintes Cephus from 4 yards out to put the Lions back up 26-22. Following a Eagles fumble, Jamaal Williams scored from a yard out to put the Lions up 33-22. The Eagles would get a late TD pass from Hurts to John Brown. They converted the 2 point attempt to make it a 33-30 game. But the Lions recovered the onside kick, and were able to run out the clock to secure the win. The win runs the Lions record to 8-0.
The Lions are off next week, then head to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers.
