Detroit's September call-ups were delayed by the mere fact that both their AAA affiliate and AA affiliate qualified for the playoffs. Unfortunately, both Toledo and Erie, respectively, lost 3-2 in the finals.

Pitchers
Jered Beavan was rewarded with a call-up after a stellar first season as a pro. Coming out of the bullpen for AA Erie, he went 7-3, with a 2.20 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 44 K, and 16 BB.

Scott Kazmir impressed the Tigers enough to earn a minor-league contract, prior to the start of the season. He's had better days certainly, but the organization is glad that he remained healthy.

Julio Teheran was the "ace" of AAA Toledo. Major-league pitching depth is what has kept him away from Detroit.

Robbie Weinhardt has spent parts of the last 4 seasons with Detroit. However, expanded rosters are the only reason he was called up.

J.P. Howell impressed Detroit in Spring Training, but the role of situational lefty was already filled. He returns to Detroit for September.

Eduardo Sanchez was sent down after the trade to acquire Fernando Rodney and Kyle Farnsworth. We are happy to have him return.

Bryan Shaw's control issues are what kept him at AAA Toledo. We hope to give him mop-up duty to re-evaluate him.

Hitters
Brandon Guyer hit cleanup for AAA Toledo. The utility man is currently in for the injured Adam Jones.

There was no room for Salvador Perez, after he was acquired before the trading deadline. He raked at AAA Toledo, and we know that he can perform at the major league level.

Maury Blanks' bat isn't there yet, but he has a lot of speed. Look for him to pinch-run late in games.

Dixie Abad currently serves a better purpose defensively. He was a throw-in last spring in the deal that sent Adam Jones and JJ Hardy to Detroit in return for Austin Jackson, Jhonny Peralta, and Nick Castellanos.

Corey Thornton has Gold Glove potential in the outfield. Look for him to relieve Braun, Sands, or Trumbo late.

Osvaldo Contreras is an emergency catcher.

Spencer Hughes replaces the injured Ryan Flaherty.

Games 145 and 146 @ TEX

W: 14-0
You can't predict baseball! There were 8 unearned runs scored in the 3rd inning, and it was the result of only one error (Ryan Raburn: throwing). JJ Hardy went 4-5, doubling twice, homering twice, and driving in 4. (This is the result of a modified batting stance.) Matt Cain pitched 5 1/3, giving up 5 hits and striking out 8. Colby Lewis pitched 5 innings as well, giving up 11 runs (only 3 earned).

W: 6-2
Ryan Braun led off the game with a home run. Adam Jones hit the game-winning 2-run homer in the 6th. Johnny Cueto was stellar in his return from injury; he pitched 7 innings. After another rocky outing from Kyle Farnsworth, Ernesto Frieri came in to save the game.

Games 135-37 @ KC

L: 4-0
Matt Cain calmed down after 2 innings pitched, but recieved no run support. Each of Detroit's rally tries were killed with a double play. Aaron Crow pitches the complete game shutout.

W: 5-0

Four runs for both sides in the first set the offensive tone. After Jaime Garcia's (W, 6 ER) 6 innings, the Tigers bullpen give up only 2 hits the rest of the way. The Royals burn four bullpen arms, mostly September call-ups who give up 9 ER total.

W: 12-0
