**Using MLB 2K12**
These two teams have quite a history in their two previous postseason matchups, but the Tigers have prevailed both times. Oakland comes in red-hot, winning every game since September 26th. They finished the season by sweeping the Mariners and opened the postseason by surprisingly sweeping the Rays.
Detroit had a late-season streak of 16 wins snapped by the Baltimore Orioles, who they split the last series of the season with (2-2). After a slight hiccup in Game 2, the Tigers needed extra innings to survive and advance in 4 games.

Defensive miscues not able to be reflected in the box score led to 4 of the Angels' 8 runs. In the 4th, Matt Cain couldn't cover 1st base in time, causing the leadoff hitter Pence to get on. He scored on a fielder's choice. With one out, JJ Hardy missed the relay throw to Mark Trumbo at first. Mike Trout homered with two outs in that inning.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Detroit Tigers
Los Angeles is the benefactor of the expanded MLB Postseason, in its second installment. They were 3rd in a highly competitive AL West, but managed to beat up the Rangers to make it to the ALDS. The Angels also get back Albert Pujols, who missed the second half of September with a sprained wrist.
Detroit didn't have trouble winning the AL Central. They also wrapped up Home Field Advantage shortly thereafter. Many would argue that Detroit slugged its way to the postseason, but they quietly acquired pitching depth along the way. Injuries came back to bite the Tigers late in the year. They hope that they lose no more bats, as bench depth is seemingly nonexistent after so many trades.
