Game 46 @ MIN

There wasn't anything flashy about this one. The Tigers mashed out a lot of hits, and it didn't take much beyond that, since Verlander (10-0) was on the mound.

Scott Baker was a formidable opponent, before losing control in the 5th.

Late runs secured the deal for the Tigers.

Indians Walk Off in Extras to Avoid Sweep

Game 45 @ CLE

Jordan Zimmermann and Derek Love provided an excellent pitching matchup. Lowe went longer, but he gave up all of the Tigers' runs.

The bullpen let down their guard late. Matt Guerrier surrendered the game-tying blast, and Randy Choate was stuck with the loss.

Carlos Santana tied it for the Indians, and Casey Kotchman walked off.

Game 44 @ CLE

The Tigers continued to prove how dominant they are above the rest of the AL Central.

Once again, they poured on the offense en route to victory. Josh Tomlin had issues with control, despite only walking 1. He gave up 5 ER on 10 hits, and threw 68 pitches in less than 5 innings of work.

Doug Fister notched his league-leading 12th win.

Game 43 @ CLE

A fatigued Justin Masterson inexplicably got the start for the Indians. He was... okay until the 3rd. He was absolutely pummeled in the 4th. He left after 3 and 2/3 IP; and when the book was closed on his outing, he had 8 ER on 11 H. His ERA has ballooned to 19.64. This was his first start since he tore a quadricep in Spring Training.

Ricky Romero, on the other hand, went all the way, giving up only 3 hits in a complete game shutout! He struck out 9.

There were many offensive stars for the Tigers. Michael Morse and Ian Kinsler homered. Adam Jones had 3 RBIs.

The score speaks for itself.

Tigers Complete Sweep of Pirates

Game 42 vs. PIT

The Tigers two-hit the Pirates thanks to strong performances from Josh Beckett (8 IP, 0 ER, 2 H 10 K) and Scott Downs (S-2).

Little offense was necessary from the Tigers, but Michael Morse and Prince Fielder homered.

The Tigers have the day off tomorrow, and they will return to facing AL Central foes when they begin a long road trip to end the month of May.

Complete Game Shutout for Verlander

Game 41 vs. PIT

The Pirates had very little offense going for them. Their first hit didn't come until the 5th. They only had 3.

The Tigers saved their offense for the 5th. Adam Jones' 3 run home run was the highlight of the game, excluding the performance on the mound.

Verlander went all the way for the second time this season. This time, he only gave up 3 hits, and struck out 11.

Game 40 vs. PIT

Ian Kinsler provided the only offense in the 5th inning with a solo shot, his 17th.

Brad Lincoln pitched all 8 innings for the Pirates in the loss.

The Tigers' bullpen backed up Jordan Zimmerman, who won his 7th game.

Jose Valverde is day-to-day after injuring his elbow. He was 2 outs into the save. Scott Downs closed it out in place of Valverde.

Game 39 vs. MIN

Jason Marquis had a tough day on the mound with 7 ER on 12 hits in just 4 and 1/3 innings; however, he obtained career strikeout #1000.

Doug Fister only went 6 innings, though he still earned league-leading win #11. He gave up 3 runs, more than usual. Joe Mauer homered off of him.

The bullpen had another collective scoreless outing, going 3 innings.

The offense is still hot, scoring 10 runs on 16 hits. Prince Fielder homered, and Victor Martinez had an inside-the-park home run.

The Tigers won the short, statement series. The Twins are second in the division, despite being 12 games back.

Tigers Open the Floodgates Late

Game 38 vs. MIN

The Tigers opened a 2 game set against the Twins.

Ricky Romero dazzled the Twins, sending 12 men back to the dugout via the strikeout over 7 innings.

Carl Pavano gave up 6 runs, including 2 home runs, despite going 7 and 1/3 innings.

JJ Hardy is still hot: he homered and doubled.

Ian Kinsler is still slumping. He went 0-5, K.

The Twins strung a lot of hits together, but could only drive in 1. Joe Mauer had the lone RBI for the Twins.

Beckett and Tigers Demolish White Sox

Game 37 @ CWS

Gavin Floyd, now 0-6, had another start that he wishes to forget. He allowed 7 runs in 3 innings, and his ERA now stands at 9. Their bullpen is now in bad shape, as two guys (Eric Stults and Addison Reed) are fully fatigued.

Josh Beckett needed no bullpen help. He was one out shy of a complete game shutout before Gordon Beckham spoiled it with a 2 run homer.

Beckett got a lot of support that he didn't necessarily needed. The Tigers scored 15 runs on 20 hits! JJ Hardy (3-5, 5 RBI, 2 R) continues to emerge from a slump (after altering his stance). He was a triple shy of the cycle.

Adam Jones had 2 triples, along with Miguel Cabrera who added another. Prince Fielder and Andre Ethier homered in addition to the aforementioned Hardy.

Ian Kinsler had the day off.

Tigers Outduel White Sox Despite Rally

Game 36 @ CWS

Both starters (Justin Verlander and Phillip Humber) were cruising early. Humber couldn't dodge the bullets in the 6th, where the Tigers teed off for 4 home runs (3 of them back-to-back-to-back).

Verlander's only early mistake was Tyler Flower's solo shot in the 7th. That broke up his shut out.

He surrendered back to back doubles when he was trying to complete the game, but he later handed it over to the bullpen.

Matt Guerrier earned a hold, and Jose Valverde converted his 11th save.

Early Scoring Fuels Tigers' Win

Game 35 @ OAK

The Tigers scored all of their runs in the first 2 innings. They erupted for 6 in the first off of Bartolo Colon. That was the only inning that he pitched. All 9 batters made it to the plate in the first inning.

Reliever Brad Peacock was the unsung hero for the Athletics. He pitched long relief for Colon, 8 innings of 1 run ball. He likely saved their bullpen for days to come.

On the other hand, Jordan Zimmermann (W, 5 IP) had a lot of help from the Tigers bullpen. Ricky Romero made yet another appearance out of the bullpen along with: Doug Fister, Scott Downs (2 errors), and Collin Balester (a call-up).

The Tigers handily won the series 3-1, and they now move on to Chicago for a 2 game set.

Game 34 @ OAK

Today was a somewhat uneventful day at O.co Coliseum. All runs came by means of the home run (Josh Donaldson for the A's, Prince Fielder twice and Miguel Cabrera).

Doug Fister had a relatively short day, but still got the win. He gave up the only A's run over 5 2/3 innings.

Ricky Romero got the save. He found some work after having a short outing earlier in the series.

Tomorrow is the last game in this 4 game set.

Game 33 @ OAK

Both teams laid it all out in this one. Ricky Romero (ND) made his first start and pitched 7 strong innings. He handed the ball of the the bullpen, who gave up no runs after him. His true "mistake" was surrendering a home run to Derek Norris, but Romero wasn't tagged with the loss.

Brett Anderson was efficient against the Tigers. Clutch hitting spoiled his outing. He pitched 9 and 1/3 innings, striking out 7. He gave up the Michael Morse double that sent the game into extra innings.

Edgar Gonzalez started off great, but he deteriorated quickly in the late innings. He lost his control. He hit Manny Ramirez in the back, which led to an injury and a trip to the DL. When he hit Marco Scutaro, a warning was given to both benches.

Andre Ethier, who came in after Ramirez was injured, hit a 2 run homer in his 2nd at-bat, giving the Tigers the game winning runs in the 15th.

Miguel Cabrera tacked on another with his second home run of the day. He went 5-7!

Jose Valverde converted the much anticipated save, his 10th on the season.

Justin Verlander recorded a win. He only had to throw 2 pitches in 1/3 innings, as Geovany Soto helped him by repeatedly catching runners stealing. The A's were only 1 for 5 on the basepaths.

Game 32 @ OAK

Brandon McCarthy quieted the bats of the Tigers, along with help from Brian Fuentes.

Closer Grant Balfour helped make things interesting when he surrendered a game-tying home run to Prince Fielder. However, a few hits were strung together in the bottom of the ninth off of Matt Guerrier.

Jemile Weeks walked off with a single.

In the losing effort, Ian Kinsler homered. JJ Hardy went 2-3 with a run scored.
