Detroit: $984 K
Team Leaders
Miami: Omar Infante (.302 AVG); Hanley Ramirez (.282 AVG, 72 RBI, 45 SB); Giancarlo Stanton (26 HR, 98 RBI); Logan Morrison (24 HR, 98 RBI); Ricky Nolasco (17 wins, 2.10 ERA); Heath Bell (45 SV)
Detroit: Miguel Cabrera (.460 AVG, 143 RBI); Adam Jones (.393 AVG, 60 HR, 197 RBI); Paul Konerko (51 HR, 143 RBI); Justin Verlander (32 wins, 1.90 ERA); Doug Fister (31 wins, 1.83 ERA); John Axford (32 SV)
Other Notes
Miami is a different kind of team, compared to what the Tigers have been used to. They live on contact and speed. They only have one true power guy (Stanton), and only a couple other "threats" to homer (Buck, Morrison). Solid pitching will keep fast runners off the basepaths. Miami has a rotation that came through. Some might say it even overcame expectations, highlighted by Ricky Nolasco's wins and low ERA. Josh Johnson needs to bounce back.
If the Tigers are on their P's and Q's, then they will win the World Series. Still don't count out the Marlins. Good pitching and defense can go a long way.

(1) Detroit Tigers defeat (2) Toronto Blue Jays 4-0.
The current situation is very similar to what happened in 2006. The Tigers swept both the ALDS and ALCS. The St. Louis Cardinals are competing in the NLCS and the series is tied going into Game 7. If history is to repeat itself, the Cardinals are to win and advance to the World Series.
Beginning there, the Tigers would want history to stop and have themselves take over. Regardless, the Tigers are ready for both the Cardinals and Marlins in the World Series...

ALCS Game 4 vs. TOR
Scoring runs in Toronto is inevitable, so the Tigers just made sure that they scored more than the Blue Jays.
Due to a tired bullpen, the Jays had to go with starter Dustin McGowan longer than anticipated. He only lasted 4 and 2/3 innings, giving up 9 runs (6 ER).
Doug Fister was better, but not at his sharpest. He couldn't finish 6, but he only gave up 3.
Tigers' pitching was the beneficiary of 11 runs, and with that, they advance to the World Series!

ALCS Game 3 vs. TOR
Both teams yielded more runs than they desired. After the Tigers came out with a 4-run 1st, they were sure that they were headed to a victory.
They bounced out the starter (again), Henderson Alvarez, and Darren Oliver had to do most of the pitching.
However, the Blue Jays tied things up after a 5-run 3rd inning. Manager Jim Leyland had enough of Josh Beckett (3 IP, 6 ER) and later opted for Felix Doubront, who was originally in line for a win.
The Tigers were never down in this game, but Collin Balester almost made it so that the Tigers were. Brian Fuentes, who won the game, got Kelly Johnson out with the tying run on 2nd base.
Later on, the Tigers offense piled on more runs to victory. Hunter Pence won the game with his 2-run shot in the 8th, to make it 13-11.
Though their bullpen is in shambles, the Tigers now lead 3-0 in the ALCS.

ALCS Game 2 vs. TOR
This was originally planned to be the most competitive game in the series, as Morrow dominated the Tigers the last time out! Instead, Brandon Morrow was much more predictable. He was unable to complete 4 innings.
Justin Verlander had a sensational performance, striking out 14 in a complete game shutout!
The Tigers take a 2-0 ALCS lead to Toronto.

ALCS Game 1 vs. TOR
Deviating from expected plans, the Blue Jays reset their rotation with the beginning of this new series. As a result, Gio Gonzalez started (rather than Dustin McGowan). The Tigers weren't bothered, even though they sent Jon Lester to the mound.
Lester continued to make progress from his strong starts late in the season. He only gave up 1 after 7 innings.
Meanwhile, the Tigers batted around in the 1st and bounced Gio out.
Darren Oliver went 5 innings, somewhat salvaging the bullpen.
The Tigers lead the ALCS 1-0. If the Blue Jays have in fact reset their rotation, Justin Verlander will counter Brandon Morrow. Morrow dominated the Tigers earlier this season.

In-Season Personnel Changes
The Tigers and Blue Jays made many moves during the season. Most notably, the Tigers acquired Edwin Encarnacion. The Jays recieved Jose Valverde, Jim Thome, and Vladmir Guerrero. Prospects were also swapped. Thome and Guerrero have been surprising offensive producers in the lineup. Valverde was better as a Tiger, but his numbers aren't far off.
Encarnacion hasn't fully lived up to expectations. With a stiff salary increase coming, he will likely be shipped elsewhere by next season.
Summary of Regular Season Matchup
The Jays only notched one win during the season, but most games were competitive. The only Jays win occured in extra innings, where Brett Lawrie walked off with a home run. The games at Rogers Centre were extremely offensive. Most of the hits were doubles, and the Tigers obviously gave up more home runs than they were used to.
Analysis of Postseason
The Tigers could possibly have an easy series, due to the absence of Brett Lawrie. Still the two venues in play will have serious effects on the series. If the Tigers take care of business at home, they will win. The Jays have the ability to take care at home, but the Tigers have snatched opportunities in the past. I don't expect a sweep, but a Tigers series loss would be shocking.
