Doug Fister one-hit the White Sox. Miguel Cabrera and Howie Kendrick homer for the Tigers.
W: 4-0
Justin Verlander two-hit the White Sox, striking out 14. (Both belonged to AJ Pierzynski, who had all three of the Sox's hits this series!) Ryan Braun and Mark Trumbo leave their slumping behind, going 3-5 and 3-3 respectively. Brett Lawrie tripled, doubled, and drove in two. Wellington Castillo doubled twice.
Iowa State never figured that success would come so easy at Kansas. The lead for the Cyclones got as large as 22, but when it came down to crunch time, Kansas brought it back down to 5, but a suffocating Cyclone defense helped alleviate the pressure usually put on the offense.
Tempo was heavily controlled by the Cyclones. The crowd at Allen Fieldhouse was also VERY quiet.

Adam Jones homered. David Freese homered and also added a 2 RBI double. Cole Hamels pitched six shutout innings. John Axford notched a save with the bases loaded.
W: 6-5
The game was in hand until the Tigers' bullpen gave up three in the 8th. JJ Hardy's sacrifice fly tied it back up. And, following singles by Miguel Cabrera and Adam Jones, Brett Lawrie's base hit won the game.
W: 7-6
John Axford blew the save by giving up three runs without retiring a batter. David Freese walked off with a 2-out RBI single.

Napoli and Jerry Sands head to the Braves for McCann and Eric O' Flaherty.
Sands was re-acquired by sending back O' Flaherty along with prospects, because the original intent was to only acquire McCann.

Ike Davis' RBI double in the bottom of the 8th broke the 1-1 tie. John Axford closed to save the game.
W: 7-1
The Tigers rallied to score two in the 6th and four in the 7th to knock Phil Hughes out of the game. Brett Lawrie homered twice. Jair Jurrjens only allowed one earned run in 7 IP.
L: 6-4 (10)
Mike Minor surrendered a 3 RBI double to Prince Fielder in the 10th. He had all six RBI for the Yankees. The Tigers' 10th inning rally was cut short by K-Rod.
W: 7-1
The Tigers sealed the series' fate early by scoring all of their seven runs within the first four innings. Justin Verlander struck out ten. Brett Lawrie had four RBI, with three coming off of an inside-the-park home run.

Following that loss, Iowa State rattled off three wins versus: the rival Iowa, Bradley, and lastly Houston.
Another marquee matchup found its way to Ames when the Cyclones hosted the Duke Blue Devils. The first half belonged to Iowa State, who shot the lights out early. Duke went on a huge run early in the 2nd half, and with their tempo, they never looked back. The final was 90-81 and only the second loss on the year for Iowa State.
Since then, Iowa State has won 5 straight, including two HUGE upsets at home. Those upsets were versus (9) Texas (73-50) and the heart attack game versus (2) Kansas, a 71-69 victory.
The Cyclones are undefeated in the conference, but miraculously are NOT in either Top 25 poll, yet. They do rank #15 in RPI.
Because they are leading the conference, the Cyclones are slotted in as a #4 seed in early "Bracketology" reports.
There are STILL tough matchups ahead: @ Oklahoma, @ Baylor, @ Missouri, @ Kansas, and @ Kansas State...

However, that following Saturday, the Cyclones were mowed down by (14) Cal, by a score of 86-69. The first half was competitive; Iowa State briefly held the lead before going down seven at the half. The home court advantage was nearly overwhelming. Cal's lead got as high as 25.
In-state rival Iowa is up next, but the school eyes the January 6th matchup with Duke at home.
Sands was named an NL Slugger for his 29 HR and 115 RBI with the Dodgers last season. He will platoon versus lefties and will also be made use of in the corner infield and corner outfield positions.
On a side note, the Tigers are experimenting with Scott Kazmir. The two-time All-Star signed a minor league deal. He last pitched in 2011, but fell victim to serious control issues.
W: 8-1
The Tigers simple take care of business yet again, winning their 11th straight. Ryan Braun hit a lead-off home run. Mike Minor made an outstanding relief debut for the Tigers.
W: 22-0
Justin Verlander took a no-hitter to the 5th. Nothing went right for the Indians, as they committ three errors in addition to not scoring. Ryan Braun hit another lead-off home run, in addition to going 5-7. Ike Davis was 4-5. Miguel Cabrera was 4-6. Mark Trumbo drove in seven runs. Lastly, JJ Hardy was a triple short of the cycle. Fausto Carmona, Kevin Slowey, Cory Kluber, and Nick Hagadone were responsible for most of the runs.
L: 9-8 (11)
The "Win"-dians make a surprise appearance in the series finale. The Tigers thought they had the win in hand twice, with a 3-0 lead after 6, and a 8-4 lead after 8. The bullpen implodes, giving up 5 of the Indians' 9 in the 9th inning or later.

Tigers almost fall victim to "Death by Twinning" (lots of singles), but Brett Lawrie hit three home runs and Wellington Castillo was still streaking.
W: 4-2 (10)
It looked like rookie Camden Nelson-Graves was going to be the hero for the Twins, with his go-ahead two-run dinger in the 7th. However, the Tigers rallied in the 8th, thanks to bad defense from the Twins middle infield. Miguel Cabrera's 2-RBI double in the 10th drove in the eventual game-winning runs.
W: 20-1
The Tigers swept the Twins behind an improbable offensive onslaught. Ryan Braun went 4-7 and hit a grand slam. David Freese was a triple shy of what could have been his second cycle of the year. Mark Trumbo went six for six! But most importantly, Jair Jurrjens didn't give up an earned run in his return to the Tigers.
On the other hand, the Tigers will re-acquire Jair Jurrjens and also recieve Mike Minor.
The move frees up nearly $6 million from the cash-stripped Tigers, and also eliminates the need for Felix Doubront, who hasn't shown much new this season.
Fans should expect supplementary moves. It is unknown whether or not Jurrjens stays with the Tigers because it is a contract year. Felix Doubront is certain to be leaving the Tigers; however. And, a need has opened for a corner outfielder who hits well versus lefties.
W: 6-2
Anaheim strikes first, but timely offense and solid pitching from the Tigers makes the rest of the game easy. Brett Lawrie homered in his return from shin splints.
W: 4-3
The Tigers did not lead until the game was over! Pinch-hitter Ike Davis and Brett Lawrie drilled back-to-back home runs to tie and win the game, respectively. Elizardo Hamre was credited with the blown save, as the Tigers bullpen kept the team's hopes alive.
W: 11-3
The Tigers notch a series sweep, and Justin Verlander notches his 2nd consecutive complete game. Wellington Castillo hit two home runs in the romp.

The Twins fail to score for a second-straight game, in addition to committing three errors! The Tigers have been rolling since the no-no.
W: 6-3
The Twins put up a fight, but not enough. Wellington Castillo emerges from his slump, going 2-4 and driving in three. The bullpen saves the quality start made by Jered Weaver.

Justin Verlander had it tonight! From the first pitch to the last, he was on point. Despite walking Denard Span twice, Justin Verlander just notched his third career no-hitter in front of a sold out crowd at Comerica Park.
Adam Jones accounted for all the offense, an RBI single and an insurance dinger in the 8th.
Verlander snagged a comebacker off the bat of Joe Mauer to seal the deal. He struck out 13.
