Just to be clear here, my concerns are not about the CPU CPU D.

I am talking only about the HUMAN CPU D.

In my prior break down of liverpool that was me as liverpool and the players I wasn't controlling (you can't control them all quick enough) doing idiotic things. The CPU D is fine enough and behaves according to skill level.

I am going to put up an example of me as PSG attacking a CPU liverpool in just a few minutes.
Yeah yeah, me too. I usually stuck with the near side defender(johnson) and watched what happened behind me depending on my actions.

For example, on SP the DBs tend to sort of sit there with their mouths agape and let you blow by them for an easy cross into the box, on WC they'll contain and try to force a mistake.

On defense I try to control every "responsible" player, playing a pressure game by containing with A and rarely tackling (I never slide tackle). Either that or I'll bring another defender up with RB and try to manually cut off passing lanes. In both cases the marking feels looser, like you can't just hold A to stick to someone like glue this year. Maybe this is due to the sharper turning angles? I don't know.

Again, I'm no FIFA expert. This is just what works for me and my style of play. Oh, and the game seems MUCH more physical this year. Lots of CPU defenders making hard challenges I wouldn't have seen in earlier games, which may lead to the increase in fouls we're seeing.
ok cool so this makes me feel very confident that ill be able to play my style game again on WC without feeling like im being jipped by the CPU. ive always played a shadow style defense, i never use the contain button i kind of just contain on my own, i use L2 to keep my defender squared up to the offensive player in possession and it seems to work out very well. thanks for the response this definitely helped.

I find the lack of midfield play by the CPU a bit disturbing, too.

The CPU just gets the ball to the CF (or wingers) as directly as possible. They then proceed to dribble around as much as they can. I would be okay if some of the teams played a direct game like that, but as usual, all the teams seem to play the same style.

That and the complete lack of offensive creativity by my CPU team-mates.

But the shirt pulling is cool.

Ok so here we go. I am PSG going against a Liverpool CPU D on pro difficulty.

Comparing the CPU defending behavior to my previous post about Liverpool defending under my "control".

Photo 1
Cavani just pulled a face up LT+RT move on the LB and is now slashing in towards the box

Photo 2
Cavani has a step or 2 on the LB so I cut back to my right to keep the defender closest to me blocked from the ball by me. Driving for the near post and creating space away from the LCB who is about to close me down

Photo 3
Not only does the LCB close me down but the LB desperately slides in to complicate matters. I weave further right but the window is closing

Photo 4
Slide attempt fails but the LCB is doing a fantastic job of pushing me towards the touchline while closing the gap, reducing my options rapidly

Photo 5
Might as well unleash. I get lucky and fire it under his outstretched leg shot block attempt

All of this correct behavior by the CPU defense is absent when my CPU controlled players play defense as I showed previously in this thread. Prior FIFA's have not been this blatant about hosing your defense, particularly on PRO

Sorry, only 5 attachments allowed in one post.

So the result is a nice shot by Cavani that just whistles wide of the near post. Plus a couple photos of the crowd reaction.

The player animations are nothing like what we've seen in the previews. The players faces look way off. Hoping this is a demo thing is all.

One thing I don't like is LT to shield. Well, I like that it exists, I just don't like how it works.

Jeez, maybe not even that, I guess I don't like how the CPU doesn't care.

If I hold LT to shield like EA says I can, and point the L stick away from the defender and shielding happens, the CPU should then respect the shielding and not just toe poke it away from between my legs.

When I shield it means I am not moving rapidly towards their goal so I am less of a threat. They need to respect this more. When I shield the correct CPU behavior should be to become less aggressive, get organized and move more men behind the ball and play on.

From what I see it gets worse as you go up difficulty levels. Just had a go on legendary and holding LT basically was an invitation for the CPU to come take it off my boot.

I am not asking for an auto shield where the CPU can't ever get it. But I do want the CPU to now have to actually come around my player to strip the ball away. Or at least maybe foul me because you came through me to get the ball.

To treat LT no differently (in terms of thieving it off my boot) than if I was holding LB to face towards goal seems silly.

Totally agreed. I don't think this feature ever worked as intended.
