I think overall that punch output is highly reliant on the AI fighter you are fighting, as well as your own approach. I have cpu output on 0.

Last night, I was Wlad and fought Holyfield, 12 rounds and 2 mins on GOAT. I won a very close UD, with Holyfield throwing a reasonable 41 punches a round. He tried to get on the inside, but wouldn't as aggressive as, say Tyson. We both finished on about 60% stamina.

Then, with the same settings, I was Foreman and fought Tyson. Tyson was aggressive and tried to bob and weave his way on the inside, throwing combinations. Rather than backing up, I held the centre of the ring, and pushed Tyson when he got close, to unleash straights and uppercuts. We had 1 knockdown each, but from the 6th round he became exhausted, having thrown 60-70 punches a round. I was able to dominate thereafter by backing him up, and got the TKO in round 10. Having been busy early, Tyson's workrate dropped dramatically, with a 37 punch average overall.

Both fights felt realistic, with all the fighters fighting how they did/do in real life.

I like the way that hagler works with these adjustments. He's still not "scary" but pretty effective. I don't remember what his chin/heart ratings are. but this guy was only knocked down once in his career and I would like to mirror that as best as possible. heart/toughness whatever...

I took a different route to avoid the hassle of changing each boxer. I changed the round length to 1 minute and this has really helped the cpu preserve stamina.

I also set my play now fights to 12 rounds non-title and 15 for title bouts (using my imagination of course on who is the champion).

I have been enjoying my bouts and I believe many of you will as well. I have gotten a great mix of decisions, tko's, and one punch ko's.

I was contemplating doing this; do the rounds feel too short? Seems it could solve AI output and stamina in one swoop.

I'm sitting there like "oh my god, dude are you actually going to box and make this look somewhat like a boxing match or are you just going to keep throwing punches at my body till I'm finally tired?"

Along with the gameplay, I actually like the look of the boxing matches. I'm not too concerned with winning or losing. I like it to look like I'm watching a match on tv. The only way I can get that is pretty much offline or one of the few sim players I occasionally run across (very few and far between)
I find it an easy win when someone comes out and throws a ton of body punches all fight long. I literally just stand there, block and let them punch themselves out for the first five rounds. The second half, with a lot of stamina left is when I start my attack.

It's an option, but it has it's problem.

For convenience's sake I took the Pavlik-Hagler model, returning Hagler to his default settings. I set it for 12 rounds. Using Pavlik I won the last 6 rounds for a 116-112 victory on all cards.

I upped boxer Power from 7 to 8, but because of the shorter rounds and virtually unlimited stamina, that Power setting wasn't enough. Both fighters were hurt by hard counters, but their "consciousness level" remained safe throughout the fight.

Long term stamina is not a factor, but at least it's not an advantage for the human. At the start of the 12th both fighters were at 100%. In a previous fight I used Hagler against Pavlik in a 15 rounder losing a split decision. At the end of 14 Hagler was at 100%, Pavlik 96%.

12 round fight VVV

Another problem is the "Body Snatcher/Head Hunter" slider. It really doesn't work. Hagler throws about 50/50 to the body and head no matter what you set it to.

Finally got to jump online and I'm loving it so far. I've had five fights so far and each one has been different. One was a guy that was an 87 to my 82. He was a volume puncher so I did a lot of blocking and weaving. I drug the fight out and bided my time. He got to the point that he did a lot of running so I would cut the ring off and once I pinned him on the ropes I'd catch him with a bunch of uppercuts. He won the first six rounds and then I got knockdowns in the 7th, 8th and the 9th. In the 10th I finally dropped him for good. Of course he shuts off his system before the ref counts to 10.

The second was a first round KO. The third fight I kept the guy at the end of my jab. Once I got his timing down started catching him with power rights and won in the 4th by KO. In the 5th fight fought somebody who just threw nothing but body punches. I circled a lot and made him miss a lot until he tired himself out and then I went on the attack. Ended up KO'ing him in the 6th. I'm loving this patch online so far.

Yeah, the new stamina engine is fun for awhile and then you get guys that take Hagler and throw 250 power modifies, 160 more punches than you and jab spam and straight spam to the body.
