Re: NCAA Football 12 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

I can see a lot of improvements this year, but there's one main thing that will keep me from buying: it doesn't feel like football.

3 things prevent it mainly from feeling like football:

1. Animations
EA's next-gen football games have always had very quirky animations. The players don't give the illusion of running, cutting or jumping. They just kind of glide across the field.

2. Passing Game
Once again, the passing game doesn't get any love. There is still barely any control in the passing game. Its either a bullet pass or lob, nothing in betweem. Putting any touch on the ball is impossible.

3. Weird interactions between players
When WR's and DB's bump its a very akward and weird interaction, like the engine doesn't know what to do. I think EA needs to implement the physics system from their NHL and Fifa series to help in these situations. Bumping and small interactions need to be much more realistic.

Tight throw, long throw, throw on the run, throw under pressure, throw on the run,ec.....I am not about any of those situations in my posts. Just wide open 5-10 yard bad passes, but me and the receiver just standing there for seconds. It felt very random and CPU dictated.
I figured when I replied to you I'd get a response like this. Forget I said anything. I've seen plenty of high major college QBs that throw bad 5-10 yard passes to wide open WRs every once in awhile so the game didn't seem overly fake or dictated to me. Glad your 12 year old is so great though. Good for you.

So in my 7th CPU game on HEisman I finally see my first CPU scramble, THomas finally tucked it and ran after zero pressure from my 3 man rush (to be expected), it looked pretty good.

Again guys, I gotta ask, maybe its just playing on heisman, but cover 2 zone doesnt stop anything for me. I know its supposed to get beat by verticals, but even the hitches and comebacks are killing it....how do you stop 5 yard hitches in this game>?

After a few more games to build on earlier impressions (360 and now PS3 too)....

Pros

- WR screens actually work more than 20% of the time. Yes!
- Some new commentary sprinkled in. Overall, the commentary doesn't flow, so meh.
- Do the players models look better to anyone else? I think they look better. Shoulder pads seem more appropriate. Sleeves, etc.
- Some throwing motions look beautiful (also see below).
- Scrambling CPU QBs.
- Just a beautiful looking game.
- The running game is just a blast. Defending it and on offense. Hitting holes and cutting back is so damn fun. The counter trey even works. I wish I had Percy Harvin!! LOL. I can't wait to use Rainey and Demps with a custom playbook.
- Some of these replays look flat out awesome. Nice camera angle variety compared to previous years.

Cons
- Kick returns may be a tad too easy overall.
- No Huddle offense is still a ???
- Some throwing motions look downright odd.
- Default speed is a tad fast, but we have options, so I am very happy. On "Slow", this game will be golden.
- Crowd is still too tame at times. Custom Stadium Sounds and the atmosphere will be glorious....again.
- CPU blitzes the corners way too often. Their D Coordinator needs to chill out.

I am going to spend some more time on Heisman now after playing mostly AA.

I know I am the first to hop on the NCAA Hype Train, but I absolutely love this game (demo) and cannot wait to hunt this sucker down! Woot-Woot!!

Re: NCAA Football 12 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

I don't like have to use the face buttons to pick my play, i like to move around so one play is selected. Too many times with the way it is in the game i accidentally pick a play i didn't want to. On defense, when you show the play art, they need to go back to making the blitz colors different from the rush color. Theyre both yellow.

Intros are way too long or feel too long simply because of the dead space of commentary for them. This game really needs a broadcast presentation but with real time animations like The Show & NBA 2k have instead of cutscenes. Add to that dynamic camera views so that things don't get repetitive because otherwise intros will get skipped after a few times. I like that they are getting creative with the intros but its going to need to be dynamic in terms of camera angles and its going to need commentary or else people will skip it.

Many of the issues with the gameplay have already been stated so i'll just focus on presentation. This game really needs a big upgrade for presentation. Nessler leads in to Erin Andrews, she says something and says back to you and then there is no response back like a "Thank you Erin" that you would hear in a broadcast. Point being that everything is just 1 liners pasted together. It doesn't sound like a broadcast at all.

I think for NCAA 13 EA needs to focus on gameplay & presentation. Don't worry about dynasty other than to improve upon coaching carousel. Bring back the HFA w/ Camera Shake to add to the atmosphere. Combine that with more tv like and dynamic presentation so that what we are seeing makes us feel like we are sitting there watching a real game on a Saturday afternoon in September or October. Then fix the gameplay problems. Special Teams needs to get some love as well as O & D. Upgrade Teambuilder, get rid of fake FCS teams, let us have more than 12 teambuilder teams loaded at a time so we can replace FCS teams, and add the little things people want like different hair styles, eye black, mouthpieces, correct facemasks, more cleat styles, etc.

Way to easy to get sacks.
Game plays a lot better
Crowd seems to quiet, wear is that big play excitement they teased us about? (I'm hoping its just the demo)
