Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

Have 2 careers going on at the moment (I just copy and paste the savegame whenever I want to play a different career). In both careers I'm doing a normal 7 year stint, just starting season 2 with Sauber in my first. The car feels different, and I like the soothing sound of the engine; the Lotus I was driving before sounded like a dog yelping every time I maxed my revs.

My Lotus drive was decent, was able to get a few points, but was still unable to move Lotus from near the bottom. Sauber offered me a contract to be their #2 and I accepted. Like the car at the moment, constantly qualifying in the top 12.

My second career I wanted to follow Alonso's path in F1 so I cheated. I used the same Lotus at the beginning but earned enough rep points to get into a Renault for the second season (you need 29 rep points for Renault to offer a contract, so I edited the database to get more reputation points faster). Planning on sticking with Renault until my fifth year, which then I hop over to McLaren.

After playing countless laps of the game, I can honestly say I'm having fun with the game despite the issues I come across. Not having split times bothers me, constant punctures (I work around this by using flashbacks), and the AI not pitting in shorter races is annoying. I've coped so far and the game has grown on me.

One nasty bug I get a lot is when racing around tight tracks like Monte Carlo and Singapore. Sometimes there's an invisible wall that blocks you: Monaco has one at Massenet, where you car sinks into the ground and them shoots up at high speed flinging you into the air.

Love some of these F1 tracks too. Love racing around Montreal, Monza, Singapore, Korea, and Sao Paulo

Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

Last night I did a short race weekend in Melbourne as Robert Kubica. Expert difficulty with Pro AI. First practice was dry and fairly straight forward. I do like the way the game allows a difference to be noticed between the primes and options you can feel the difference in grip level and performance. In the future I would like to see the prime and options vary in performance based on the circuit, circuit conditions, temps etc. Basically what I'm saying is that I would love to see the primes give faster times in random situations, as this is sometimes the case in real life, especially in races.

Second practice there was a 38 percent chance of rain. Halfway though the rain started to fall and I stayed out on options and was able to wheel off about 4 super fast laps in a steady rainfall. I decided to stay out indefinitely hoping grip level would change and it did eventually, albeit 3 laps too late. I have read that light to moderate rain does not affect cars on dry tires the truth is that it does, but it affects the cars way to late. Some 3-5 laps after the first sign of water. During this time you can go balls out on the limit and then suddenly the grip falls off the cliff when in reality you should notice a gradual loss of grip from the very start. It would be nice to see this patched, but it's certainly not a game killer.

Qualy was no big deal. One session put my Renault in 6th place. No aids pro AI In cockpit.

Race was 17 laps and wet throughout. All cars started on full wets (I assume). Got a good start was in 5th pos by the time I hit the apex of turn 2. Got a good run on Massa after carrying a little more speed out of turn 5 and out braked him in turn 6...wheels looking up and all. Passed Hamilton and Vetel within a few laps and then passed Webber after he spun out on the run in-between turns 8 and 9. Durning all of this cars are sliding and fishtailing like crazy and I am also. It was really fun. You could see the cars struggling for grip and it was fun to see the cars struggle like that. By this time I'm in 1st place braking early making sure to give light throttle until I had my car pointed in a straight line. Halfway thru I notice that the grip is increasing, this was confirmed by my engineer telling me to pit for inters if I wanted to. I also seemed to notice the rain got much lighter, but I would need to be in a similar situation to be sure. Anyway the grip has increased and I notice Hamilton is driving like a bat outta hell! Really showing skills in the wet. Long story short I held him at bay and he was never more than a second and a half behind towards the end. Inexplicably Hamilton and Vetel behind him dove into the pits on the very last lap and finished the race in the pitlane! Man wtf! I checked the results and they are all jacked up. Seems as if a lot of the leaders pitted and random drivers didn't. This was a wet race and there was no mandatory pitstop and it was only 17 laps. It seems to me that the AI doesn't take into account short race situations as it seemed the cars that pitted most likely stopped for inters when they didn't need to. The finish line is right there!

This game all in all is so much fun to play but with weird stuff happening in the game as I just mentioned along with the bugs and lack of split times to cars in front and behind it's nothing more than an arcade racer. That is not what I paid 60 bucks for. I hope Codemasters makes this right. The really need to.

Edit: Just found this post in the Codemasters forum concerning dry tires in wet conditions. Seems Codemasters did a good job with the simulation according to the user Lexandro. Pay attention to his 3 or 4 posts very informative.

Nice to see somebody actually correct themselves. Good job man and I commend you. When I read your post the first thing came to my mind was "How does he know how the tires should perform". Everyone's an expert these days. People usually post and run. Especially when they're wrong you never hear from them then the next poor soul reads the post and thinks it's real information and spreads the same junk. But you did the right thing. Bravo man.

I'm really digging this game though. Never NEVER in a million years would I have thought I would be it really is fun.

Hey guys, perhaps you can tell me if this is reasonable, or I just need more practice, lol.

I’m not starting career until the patch comes out, so I’m learning the tracks in Time-Trial in the meantime. I finally feel like I’ve got a decent handle on Bahrain, so I decided to do a one-off “Grand Prix” weekend to get a feel for the actual racing.

I choose Lotus, all assists off, manual, on Expert difficulty, 100% distance.

I manage to qualify 17th. I start the race, and I get in about 10 or so laps before having to turn the console off to do other things.

During that 10 laps, I managed to pick up one or two spots, but that’s about it. Out in front of me, it was obvious that many of the cars were putting lots of distance in front of me. So my question is this:

Was the fact that I qualified 17th and never managed to do much better reasonable and typical? I’m gathering that Lotus and Virgin are among the slower of the cars and you don’t really get competitive unless you get in to the other cars like Ferrari. Or is that the AI “fuel bug” in action? Or do I just have to get better?

Uhh this is killing me and so stupid

PS3
G27/ Ive realized that you need to have the stupid shifter plugged in. Now this is the same case with the Fanatec wheel as well, But i don't have a shifter. So i thought i could use the CSP pedals with the G27 Wheel with shifter. But the stupid pedals don't work
This sucks

At least not as bad as all those EA racing games IMO.

I've never done the grand prix mode, but does it include all the Practice Sessions? In my career I spend as much time as I can, without destroying my tire allotment, setting up my car to go as fast as I can. It's super important with the bad race teams to get the car setup how you like to drive it....the easier the car is for you to drive the faster you'll be. The fuel bug is a strange one, if you have it turned on you'll get demolished every race with the bad teams.....but if you turn it off it seems you pick up way too many spots early in the race.

If you get frustrated not being able to compete I would suggest not doing a 7 year career....because you will be stuck with Virgin or a team like them for the first twoish years and will be struggling to just finish in the points ( at least I did anyway ). Once you are able to move into the mid level teams ( Sauber, Toro Rosso, etc. ) you are able to be more competitive and its less frustrating. Also, if you arent playing with a wheel, I would set traction control to medium.....its too hard to control the gas with the controllers IMO.

Thats just my opinion on things anyway....hope this helps some
