Re: F1 2010 Impressions (PS3, 360, PC)

After spending many hours with the game, I'm still having fun. But there are some issues that can be truly frustrating.

I race at 50% length, with a full race weekend and all aids turned off with expert AI settings.

With a middle of the pack car I qual first by more than .5 seconds. In my career, I'm qualing 12th with the Lotus. This just shouldn't be happening and it's down to the AI.

Being held on pits stops however is the most maddening thing. Even at 50% races, if there's anyone else pitting with you....you're gonna come out last. It's inexcusable that this was allowed into the final game.

Those two things are my only real complaints that I feel ruin the game for me.

Some little things:
no split times and no gap times to drivers around you.
The AI takes very suspect lines around the tracks that many times doesn't reflect the actual line that a real driver would take.
The AI's behavior in corners can be bad. They break way to early in many cases and don't get on the throttle hard enough in some corner complexes when another corner quickly follows.

The driving model is great and the tracks are pretty much accurate as far as I can tell. So the base is there for a great game and a good patch will restore a lot of confidence I think.

During the race, can I tell them to set my car up for a dry track? Race I'm in now it stops raining, so I change to prime tyres. But I want to change the car setup to fastest top speed for a dry track. How can I do this during the race? Or am I stuck with the wet race track setup I started with?

They would have to take apart the car to do that dependent on what specific changes you wanted made. In the game while you are in the race the only adjustments you can make are wing adjustments. If anything if it is a race where there is a possible chance of rain and clear weather than you should set your car up for the dry weather and suffer with the car with the wet tires on.

The only adjustment that is doable mid race are wing adjustments. What you could do is work on a setup to adjust the car off your dry setup with just wing adjustments.

Meaning if you have a dry setup you like then practice with wet conditions but only make changes to the wings and nothing else. This way you know what to change and have been accustomed to racing in those conditions with those wing adjustments.

Hey guys, what's a decent lap time for Bahrain, be it TT or race?

Of all the different types of racing, F1 is the type I've played the least, and I'm having the hardest time learning that track. I may need to switch from the cockpit view to the "T" cam, which will allow me to see a bit more, and maybe get over myself and play with some assists at first, lol. But I'm really hating this track.

What's a good lap time to shoot for?

I think sub 2minute there is decent. If you are struggling, don't be afraid to turn on the corner braking lines. When I'm learning a new track, I use those to get a feel for the braking zones then turn them off.

Iv'e raced two career race's thus far at Bahrain I pitted as soon as my engineer told me the car in front of me was coming in for tire's I had planned on pitting early anyway to take on prime's got a 13th in the Virgin took the same approach at Malaysia and got a 16th but had a couple spin's that cost me....I have noticed the AI at time's in corner's has it's mind made up on it's line and die's not adjust if you slide up on them Hamilton spun by running into the side of me at Bahrain and Webber did the same thing at Malaysia I was holding my line so that may wanna be looked into as well...great game though I will be even happier when the bug's are fixed

Yeah some of the stuff is frustrating....i hate how the car marker isn't super reliable so you dont always know if a guy is trying to dive in a corner on you, and spotter would be nice as well.

I just had an incredibly frustrating race....first in practice i get a 5 place penalty for causing a collision, except the AI was in control of my car cuz i use the jump to sector 3 out of garage...than raceday....its raining.....first race ive done in the rain.....anyway i decide since the forecast was only 20ish % to stay out as long as i can before i pit so i can make a better decision what tires to use ( hate pitting late because of all the pit bugs ), i pit on lap 7 in 4th ( why is the AI so slow in the rain? ) and come out in 14th after a 5.6 second stop. So I assumed a lot of cars had yet to pit, as well as my teammate cuz he started in 21st and was now in 6th. I can't be sure, but I think several AI didn't pit, I finished 14th, Webber finished 11th...Webber had the pole and was leading the race when him and I entered the pits in lap 7.

Grrrrrr......this game will be so very good once they fix these bugs. Its still an enjoyable game as it is for me tho.
