i been a ea sports fan since i started playing video games.. nba live all day madden all day. i have to admit nba live 10 show me some good things i excited for 11.. then i heard bout the name change to elite i was heated.. Why why why??/ people like me been playing nba live since we was young why change the name of that series.. That decision there was whack off top. Kevin Durant on cover was whack. Should of had someone from boston celtics on cover or sumbody from miami heat if you wasnt go pick someone from lakers. Then no new ncaa basketball and i like ncaa basketball 10. Madden 11 not feelin it. Ea need to step it up and step it up quickly. Cause if 2k gets a hold of that nfl license its over for madden for sure.

This isnt meant to be an attack on you and please dont take it this way. I'm just dissapointed at everything that lead up to today's decision.
You know what though? They were right for me...I was VERY disappointed when I saw the early videos...they told me to wait until the demo to pass judgment so I did and guess what? I thought the demo was a lot of fun once I learned the controls...so did they lie to you somehow? They didn't lie to me...

What's disappointing for me is the entire process we've been through with Elite. 2 months ago, 23 and other people came online after previewing the game and gave fair but negative reviews of the version they played. The videos looked bad too. All we heard from EA was "that was an older version of the game" and "wait until u play the demo before you judge it".

So we did. The demo came out and it had numerous glitches and appeared to be a big step back from Live. So what did we hear "The game is great User v. User" and "a patch will fix most problems". A week later the game is delayed for at least 4 mos because its according to Peter Moore "lacks gameplay polish". My question is what version of the game were the EA employees who raved about this game playing?

I've kept my mouth shut for months about this but today's announcement and subsequent thank yous to EA caused me to speak up. What gets me is that you and I know that if the backlash was just a little bit less, EA would have released the game. In my decade of being at EA, I've never seen a major release demo get this much negative attention. There was 1 positive impression for every 20 negative one.

My point is it took a unprecedented backlash to cause them to delay it and based on the way they promoted and hyped the game before and after the demo, I dont trust that EA would have pulled the game if they werent guaranteed to take a huge loss.
Excellent, excellent post...I agree with everything you wrote here.

is this going to cut into Elite 12's development? If so, I can take a hit for the year..Please don't cut into 12 development

Or that when people said the videos looked bad that they should have said "you're right - our game does suck"...I'm not quite sure what you think they should have done or said differently...I can't say for sure but I do not think the devs here are the ones that demanded that Live 10 be scrapped and to start from scratch...I would think that came from higher up...

And I don't remember reading that anyone from EA said the patch would fix most things...and btw is it possible that the devs actually BELIEVE Elite 11 is a great game and therefore when they mentioned positive things about the game that they really meant it rather than - like you think - they were trying to dupe you?
I would actually prefer if they were trying to dupe me because if they actually believe that the demo represents a good game of basketball....if they actually believe that the demo is a good simulation of NBA basketball...I question that they will be able to deliver the type of game most people at OS want to play.

Let me be clear. Devs' role at OS is not to hype the game. OS is a two way street. The Devs get the opportunity interact with the hardcore gaming community and use those ideas to improve their game. The OS community gets direct access to a Dev to submit ideas, fixes and features that they would like to see in the game. No hype. Just responses. I think the Elite devs have done a great job at that.

2k has guys like Ronnie2k and Live (now THQ) had guys like Stephensonmc who are PR guys. They are not devs. They are here to solely hype the games they promote. So if Ronnie says MLB2k is the greatest baseball game ever, I take that with a grain of salt because I know his primary job is to promote and hype his game. With Devs, I expect a little more straight talk.

Re: CONFIRMED: NBA Elite 11 Delayed until 2011

I'm curious now if we are going to see this game early next year or around the same time oct 5 just as NBA Elite 12.

Personally I think this decision was a great decision for the company to delay the title, I know this is hard on developers who put in so much work over the last year, but I think for this game to have been a great title it was going to take longer than one year to develop, there was a lot of things under the hood that needed polished for this game I'm sure, and I tried to keep graphics out of my impressions I made on the game in the impressions thread but the graphics just didn't seem there this year, too many of the little things that matter seemed to have to take a step back or get left out in order to make there main focus of the game shine but the smaller minor details make huge strides in making a sports title to look and feel like what it is representing and I just didn't get that overall feel with Elite 11. I think it was a well played move by EA to do this, I know the developers where proud of what they have came up with but I just don't think it was ready for release in my opinion.

I dont think you have this kind of delay unless the issues are undeniable and not once even after the bad impression of the demo did any of the devs. even hint at a delay. Where is the trust? Which is a shame because like I said earlier in this thread rEAnimator has been one of the most candid devs. I have seen on OS.
I believe rEAnimator posted few pages back in the thread that he and the team just found out this morning abuot the delay. So don't think he had any idea either, I wouldn't chalk up him not saying anything to being distrustful.
