I'm not trying to make this uncomfortable for devs at all. OS is very dev-friendly and I think I've been respectful. With that said, I'm not going to hold my tongue when I think something is BS.

What's disappointing for me is the entire process we've been through with Elite. 2 months ago, 23 and other people came online after previewing the game and gave fair but negative reviews of the version they played. The videos looked bad too. All we heard from EA was "that was an older version of the game" and "wait until u play the demo before you judge it".

So we did. The demo came out and it had numerous glitches and appeared to be a big step back from Live. So what did we hear "The game is great User v. User" and "a patch will fix most problems". A week later the game is delayed for at least 4 mos because its according to Peter Moore "lacks gameplay polish". My question is what version of the game were the EA employees who raved about this game playing?

I've kept my mouth shut for months about this but today's announcement and subsequent thank yous to EA caused me to speak up. What gets me is that you and I know that if the backlash was just a little bit less, EA would have released the game. In my decade of being at EA, I've never seen a major release demo get this much negative attention. There was 1 positive impression for every 20 negative one.

My point is it took a unprecedented backlash to cause them to delay it and based on the way they promoted and hyped the game before and after the demo, I dont trust that EA would have pulled the game if they werent guaranteed to take a huge loss.

I like Elite's direction. It's much better than Live 10. It gives you freedom and unpredictability for gameplay. Devs, keep doing your job to reach your final goal.

Re: CONFIRMED: NBA Elite 11 Delayed until 2011

Never thought I would see the day where EA made a game so bad they were too embarrassed to release it. You just DON'T SEE games that are gold, discs pressed and packaged, on the way to retailers to be sold just be "delayed"(yeah right, it's cancelled) like this!

Now I'm worried that EA will just say "F it, we just can't make a better basketball game than 2K, these silly gimmicks with "physics" that don't add anything and the most convoluted control scheme seen in a game since the early survival horrors, lets do anything we can to get the exclusive NBA license. Just like the NFL(and yeah, I know there's debate over who is more at fault for the fiasco of their exclusivity, the NFL or EA for taking their offer).

Either way, I don't have much sympathy for EA; I feel bad for the devs who worked months(years?) to make this just to have it pulled a week before release but that's it.

Thanks rEA

Question for you rEAnimator. So is Elite 11 Canceled? Or Will it be released early next year? Say around January? The article wasn't very clear.

I'm not saying I disagree with you but........

Are you saying that they should not have hyped the game? Or that when people said the videos looked bad that they should have said "you're right - our game does suck"...I'm not quite sure what you think they should have done or said differently...I can't say for sure but I do not think the devs here are the ones that demanded that Live 10 be scrapped and to start from scratch...I would think that came from higher up...

And I don't remember reading that anyone from EA said the patch would fix most things...and btw is it possible that the devs actually BELIEVE Elite 11 is a great game and therefore when they mentioned positive things about the game that they really meant it rather than - like you think - they were trying to dupe you?

I was quite clear on my first post in the impressions thread that the demo represented the final build and there was no reason not to pass judgment on the demo except for 3 very specific things we had fixed in the retail version.

No one said "wait for" anything after the demo was released. No one said the patch will fix most the problem. No one from EA anyway. You just made that up now. We weren't trying to fool you.

We genuinely like the game and are going to be working hard to address the concerns people have brought up.

This has been a tough day, I think I need to step away for a bit...

Well done EA.

I think you have handled a tough situation in the best way possible.

Much respect has been earned.

Respect has always been there for the EA guys who are on the forums. rEAnimator and such. Being here, sticking it out during such a tough period. Those are the kind of players I would want on my team.
