In one of the blogs, not sure which one, EA said something about their animations not looking completely fluid but that the control is really where the game shines. After reading the blog I wasn't expecting gameplay videos to really blow me away but I am really surprised and unimpressed with these videos. EA has repeatedly said that you need to play and feel the game to judge it so I'll hold judgment until the demo, but the only way I see myself buying this game is if the control is that much better than 2k. EA has really hyped up the level of control and if it lives to the hype then any other basketball game should feel unplayable do to lack of control. But at the same time if the control under impresses just the tiniest bit EA will get ripped.

On a side note I am very surprised how bad the commentary is. I was expecting the ESPN team to bring make the audio sound very dynamic and live but instead they seem dead and bored. Not to mention their is not fluidity with what they say, it is blatantly obvious that they were in a booth reading lines. Van Gundy and Jackson have a few good lines but they do not bring anything new to the booth, besides they're catchphrases. In 2k you get a sense that the commentators are having conversation with eachother and they feel apart of the game. I was also surprised that they really don't go in depth about players or teams. For example in 2k they will talk about how a team/player performed last year, the expectations for this year, what they did in the offseason, etc. It's pretty disappointing that EA has the ESPN license yet they still look years behind 2k in terms of presentation.

Looks like a early Playstation 2 game with all the stiff/robotic movements.

MY OPINION

The commentary is really really dull.
-It's like the commentary for the NBA: Inside games where they only comment on the plays themselves, and not player/team specific, with interruptions, courtside interviews, and just overall random chatter.
-I expected EA to do much more with the ESPN license than just add in a new scoreboard, and stale and unenthusiastic voices of Mark Jackson, Mike Breen, and JVG, which are unrealistic and choppy in comparison to their real-life counterparts.

-The contact in the paint also seems very scarce, I mean, at 0:45, Charlie V just does a spin move and takes a jumpshot without any contact seeming to affect him when there were like 2 or 3 guys contesting and crashing into him.

-OH! AND WHY THE HECK ARE THE REFS NOT MOVING! They're ice-pivoting towards the direction of the ball!

-Blocks still sound like gunshots...and the players making the blocks jump up super fast, even when the offensive player is already like 2 seconds into his jumpshot. (2:50 with Tayshaun being blocked by Durant)

-It looks like as if the controls are either very difficult, or randomized. At 3:23, Prince had a wide open dunk, but instead did a EUROSTEP (WTF) around the imaginary defender, and missed the shot.

-I haven't seen many momentum shots, even if the player is driving a pulls up, the animation is still the same (3:36 with Durant)

-WTF happened at 4:30?? Over the back FOUL? Pistons player was boxed out by OKC player, but Pistons player still gets the rebound after an awkward animation by the OKC player which sends him out of bounds?

I R DISSAPOINT EA

I got the same feeling after watching this video. And that was a dev who did that if I'm not mistaking. I will have to see what the demo is like and if the controls are just too complicated.

The euro step is a user thing. I didn't feel he had a wide-open dunk on that play, but you have to do a specific motion to do that particular move he did -- it would be hard to get mixed up with a regular dunk from my recollection.

I'm not saying it's okay because its not, the game does look extremely bad in certain spots no question on about it.

But the thing I'm asking is if you can beat a guy (or the AI) and you know that you won't have to deal with an animation or exploits determining the outcome will this stuff be okay?

If you are okay with it the dev team made a good decision. If not the dev team may have been wrong in assuming players want total control.

Maybe they just want a game that looks great more then anything else. And I'm not saying it cant look great and play great at the same time. What I'm saying is maybe users don't care for total control as much as they say they do.

So basically if this style of game isn't going to be fun to you AT ALL then the risk the devs took this year was a failure for you. And if that's the case all the devs can do is hope that a certain percentage of basketball fans like the idea of total control and can have fun with it.

This way they can establish some type of fanbase and then hopefully build it up as the game gets more on par with its competition.

Jumpers from the baseline look cool to me for some reason, they look like they are fun to make. The presentation in this game is SEVERELY degraded compared to other offerings, no mascot, cheerleaders are stagnant, refs don't move, fans aren't overly into the game, that said the commentary hurts the game tremendously, man is it dry, no excitement what so ever. Commentary is some of the poorest I've seen in this generation of consoles, just really, really poor! EA obviously didn't have enough time, didn't have the talent, missed the ball - who knows, hard to believe that it looks and plays like this and we are a month from release.
