Re: MLB '10: The Show Video: Dodgers at Phillies Gameplay

Hmmm, I think that I like the new batting perspective. Can anybody tell me what the rationale was for changing it? I only played the Show 09 as my first MLB The Show game, so I don't know if there was a lot of clamouring for change... it looks to be offset by about a foot to the left.

I knew there was a lot of talk about a new broadcast style camera, but I thought that had more to do with real time events on the field, not so much the behind the batter view.

Any insights?

The ticker is the 3rd...6th..and I'm guessing the 9th although at the last inning..you get a pop up box overlay that shows the out of town scores(you get it in game also)

Watch the video again. The offset is based on the hitter being a right or left handed hitter. When facing a lefty, the view for the right handed hitter will be pretty much a right-eye view. This gives you a better "look" at the ball, while not having to deal with the breaking point of the pitcher throwing that breaking ball from the same side of the delivery as you are standing in the batter's box.

While trying to bat lefty against a lefty pitcher with a gnarballs slider or hook, you get to see that arm slot looking over your own shoulder to the same side of the plate. That is why you'll see guys like Drew or Junior get a night off when they face a Lefty with a low arm slot. Tough to see, and tough to hit.

This camera angle actually replicates this quite well, giving you a bit more reaction time and a better look at the ball.

I have loved this since MVP05...

***update***
The BB guy said no dice to my offer of a Franklin for the Kiosk disk. He alluded to the fact that maybe two of them would get them would get the job done, but for 5 more days, I can wait it out.

The only thing that I have to worry about is how long that inning took ... 10 minutes for a half inning? There are 17 or 18 half innings in a game... that's bordering on a 170/180 minute game. I'm sure it speeds up and you can turn on Quick Play, but it was still pretty long. That was also just 4 batters I think?

I know maybe some people would want the game to have a near 1:1 time from the real thing on TV versus the thing you play... but that particular thing seemed a little long.

The purpose of this video was to show everything no pressing x to speed the game up. That's why it was so long and only 3 outs

I believe that gameplay video was based on no hurry-ups at all. No button pressing through the walk ups and resets...

You'll cut that time in half even with the quick play off. No problem.

Thanks for the explanation Stealyerface... I figured that it shifted left/right, but wasn't sure what the rationale was this time of year. I thought I could tell balls/strikes better in MLB '09 than any game before it (I was a big MVP guy myself), but hopefully this helps a little more.

Aaah, thanks guys, good to know! I usually turn on the "quick play" when I get into the nitty gritty of Franchise anyway.

Game looks absolutely incredible too, thanks for sharing the video with GT.
