Madden NFL 10 Gameplay Video: Eagles @ Cowboys (IGN)

after watching that video my hype for this game has went way down. animations look the same as last year, the players dont move fluid or realistictly at all. i mean Mclin was running so ugly with no lean at all. i just think they need an entire new engine and that probrobly wont be till next gen. Ive been playing madden for years buying the game year after year accept 06, 07, and 08. im older now and i can see the cycle i understand this gens madden cant be saved unless the engine is rebuilt, so i dont think ill buy this game this year, ill play the demo and if i like it ill go out and buy it. besides theres alot of good games i coming out this year i could be playing instead of madden 10.

Without an AMAZING Offline Franchise Mode I will be in the same boat.

With that turned off, I would expect the gameplay to be much similar to 09 than your admitting and imo it was. Now Ian needs to put himself in our shoes. He knows the majority here really disliked 08 and 09. What did he expect when he shows us jostling, pro-tak, procedural awareness and other solid improvements and then the vid has none of that?

Sure the cut scenes were cool, but all Im seeing at that moment in my opinion is lipstick on a pig if the gameplay is no different.

I've seen all those that you listed in other videos except for the WR/CB interaction. I can't explain why it wasn't in there, either.

I'm not fan of the last 4 years of Madden, but even I can see the gameplay is better. It's not there yet, it's going to take momentum/physics (locomotion) and routed based passing to take madden to the next level of gaming for me. But many of the changes Ian outlined are there. There's better OLine blocking / interaction, and a decent pocket. There's better coverage (more realistic though it still suffers from near instant turns with instant speed, taking us back to the momentum/physics problem). Presentation is better which is a key factor to immersion making the game more realistic while drawing the player into the game (though Hammond's commentary is horrible).

I think the problem right now is that every time I see a positive, something that makes me say yeah, they got it right, there's a huge negative right there a long with it. The EA team is stoked about the release because they know it's a better game, and the best they have put out in a long time (at least half a decade), but as a consumer, it's still not there for me. (if you look at my posting history you can find my fairly extensive good, bad, and ugly breakdown of the video to find out why).

Long story short, a one year cycle was not long enough to correct all of the design decision sins of the past. I think it's going to take another 2 years to address the momentum/physic, route based passing, and animations/rendering (frames/missing animations). And that's only 'if' EA steps up and admits they have a problem with their animation/rendering engine and makes it a goal to provide a better one. Thus far we have no indicatiion they are willing to do so.
