When using the R analog incorrectly for pitching are there pitches badly out of the zone or are they usually meatball pitches?

It depends. If you mess up badly, it will be a meatball. I oticed that if you mess up slightly, it is often a ball. Problem is that until you get the hang of it, it is easy to mess up badly. I am still throwing a lot of meatballs. I am hoping that once I get halfway decent at it, it will allow for a good strikeout/walk ratio.

Something else I wanted to mention; I noticed there is no commentary in minor league games. Kind've sucks, but I'll get over it.
I guess Joe Morgan and John Miller? (can't remember his name now) must be too important to do minor league commentary, LOL. Maybe they should have used those old NFL 2k cheap announcers, LOL.

Re: Major League Baseball 2K8 360 Impressions

I'm guessing that the reason for it is that they used last year's commentary, so they don't have them saying the names of the minor league teams.

I have all three 'throw strikes' sliders at zero and I'm one of those seeing no difference from the default settings. I'm batting in the fifth inning, Sean Hill of the Nationals has 2 balls & 39 strikes. I've chased maybe five pitches that MIGHT have been out of the zone. I say 'MIGHT' because the umps seem to call anything remotely close a strike. Any help?

EDIT: Hill finished with 3/69 in a complete game two-hitter...

I'm renting the game for the 360, it's not much better. They regressed on the graphics for sure. I have 2K7 for both PS3 and 360 and I can tell that last years graphics on the 360 looks so much better then this years 360. Actually, the 360 now looks like the PS3 version of 2K7! Those screen shots posted look like they are high resolution and it looks nice.

The game play is better then last year but not by much. Is it worth $60?.....I don't think it is.. I would say $30.00 is more like it.

However, it peeves me that they didn't put in a human pitcher control slider.
Nice review, and they do have a slider for this. It's Total Control Pitching Difficulty or something along those lines.

Bigfnjoe, I'm definitely looking forward to your sliders!

Re: Major League Baseball 2K8 360 Impressions

What the heck is going on with my CPU pitchers then? Just finished a game against CWS with DET, faced John Danks (not too good control-wise) who pitched 7 strong and overall they threw 83/96 for 86% strikes. I chased a few, but not enough to make a real difference in the percentage. I have the overall & ahead TS sliders at zero, behind TS at 40ish (thought I would try it closer to default). These are consistent results for me and to sound like a broken record, THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING! I'm starting to really like the game, just wish I was seeing what some of you are...

On the plus side, looks like I've found a nice balance for user pitching as I threw 76S-55B for 131 total pitches (58%) and gave up four runs on six hits overall. I only struck out and walked two, but I think I just need to tinker with the AI Contact a little and find a way to get them to chase with two strikes. I love pitching in this game!
