Philip Rivers throws five picks in Oakland resulting in a big loss for the Chargers home opener. McFadden was a beast and could not be stopped. Richard Seymour had a drastic impact on the Raiders defense...thanks league reset The Chargers have some tough matches in the coming weeks, including: the Ravens, Dolphins, and Pittsburgh. Until then, Philip Rivers will be throwing footballs through tires and the defense will practice tackling greased pigs and running their aces off. Good game mattray214! Glad to be your first victim in the league.

Anyone know how to throw jump balls? I am just trying to figure out how to utilize tall WR's. For example, if you had Moss or Calvin Johnson, are you able to throw a jump ball against ANY single coverage (zone OR man) and have a shot at the ball? Have people tried under-throwing on purpose against zones to get a jump ball? I may try this out tomorrow.

Also, anyone else notice run blocking got a lot better? They definitely adjusted the default slider for that aspect of the game. I'm getting a lot better blocking, especially on pulls. I like it, it forces opponents to respect the run, not try to sit in dime and let their miraculous block shedding DL stop power runs. I had insanely good success running powers and isos against DB heavy defenses. This is definitely for the better.
Thanks CK! Garrard had a great game due to the Mike Thomas' YAC. Thomas is nice little receiver for the slot. He drops some passes in practice mode; but he's dangerous when he does catch the ball in space. MJD had an outstanding game; both of his big runs went for scores. MJD is definitely one of the more dangerous backs in this game.

Autumn passed along a tip where it helps to make line audibles on running plays (Aggresive if running the middle; left/right for the runs to sidelines). When I do this, I am able to run the toss plays and get 3 or 4 yards... sometimes even more.

Run blocking is definately better post patch. I have been getting gashed my the run lately, previous to the patch I would run a cover 1 man to shut the down the pass and it could stop the run as well. I find that defense is worthless against the run now, I have had to scheme around and find that zone blitzes seem more effective against the run because if they get into the secondary there is help to stop from breaking the big run. In C1 defense if my LB missed I was in trouble. Overall zone seems more effective than before and man seems a bit less effective than before. These are all good things but I have had to learn the hard way. It is very exciting to see the run game look effective in a Madden game.
I play run D like I played it in APF: Gap control and man power. If I NEED a stop I'll put 8 in the box and guess on a gap call to the right area. It usually works. If I need a 0 yard gain or less and I know the A gap run is coming, I'll call the according blitz.

It seems like what you need to call to get run stops depends on the talent of your team against the run. With teams like Cincinnati who lacks talent against the run, I've had to blitz guys and always keep SS Roy Williams in the box against base sets. With Pittsburgh, an awesome defense, I just need to be sound in my alignment and smart with my DL gap calls. I don't need to blitz very often, though. The front 7 just plays their area and oftentimes beat their men.

This also may be coming down to the type of defense: 3-4's seem to run that 2 gap system, and 4-3's with the penetrating 1 gap. Generally the type of DL reflect this. Cincy's DL is far weaker and faster than PIT's. Ever notice how easy it is to run on Indy... and not on MIN? The strength of those DT's go a long way. The Jets are a b*tch to run inside against too with Jenkins.

@ DJ = I hope all is well, bud.. we'll hear from you soon

I have a difficult time with play recognition, because I try to key off of the OL...its not easy to do in this game.

Re: ACQB M10 Franchise Game Discussion/Ish-Talking Thread

The Bears opened up their season with a 38-17 victory over the rival Green Bay Packers.

The story of the game? Turnovers. The Bears' defense picked off Aaron Rodgers 8 times. That was not a typo. 8 times. The Packers' defense added another 3 takeaways themselves, stripping Bears' RB Matt Forte twice and picking off Jay Cutler once. At one point in the game, 3 straight plays resulted in interceptions.

But the defense was not the only reason the Bears won. Jay Cutler played efficiently, going 12-17 and tallying 154 yards. He also had 2 touchdowns and the interception already mentioned. Matt Forte added 75 yards on the ground on 19 carries, giving the Bears a perfect balance on offense.

And, as always, special teams came up big for the Monsters of the Midway. Devin Hester returned a kickoff 104 yards to the house, and averaged 49.7 yards per kick return.

An all-around great game for the Bears.

Bears' Stats:

Passing:
Jay Cutler - 12-17 154 yards; 2 TDs, 1 INT; 113.3 Passer Rating.

Rushing:
Matt Forte - 19 carries 75 yards; 3.9 yards per carry; 2 fumbles
Adrian Peterson - 7 carries 20 yards; 2.8 yards per carry

Receiving:
Greg Olsen - 5 catches 85 yards; 1 TD
Devin Hester - 3 catches 25 yards; 1 TD
Earl Bennett - 2 catches 37 yards

Defense:
Brian Urlacher - 3 INTs (all user)
Kevin Payne - 2 INTs; 1 TD
Zack Bowman - 1 INT
Josh Bullocks - 1 INT
Nathan Vasher - 1 INT

Good game grunt.
